By now, we all have heard the infamous "47%" quote. During the Presidential campaign, Mitt Romney said there was 47% of Americans who saw themselves as victims. He said 47% of Americans would vote for "Social Justice" over sane economic policies. What he didn't realize was another 3%+ were just idiots. On Election Day, the "47%" became the majority and Obama was re-elected.

Specifically, 47% of our population does not pay Federal income tax. But, generically speaking, the "47%" consist of those people who think life is unfair and they want government to make it fair.

Retires and the working poor make up 75% of those who do not pay Federal income tax. Now, no one thinks Romney was talking about senior citizens, and seniors voted for Romney over Obama by 15%. He was, however, talking about the "poor" in America. The ones that want government to take from others and give to them. They voted for Obama over Romney by 28%.

The Black population is definitely part of the "47%." Blacks are always telling us how they are victims of a slave trade that happened 200yrs ago. They were 24% of Obama's vote total.
Hispanics make up the "47%" because they sympathize with the plight of illegal Hispanics. Hispanics who come to America illegally are seen as "victims" of their birthplace. They deserve our healthcare, our welfare, and our jobs. Hispanics added 14% to the Obama vote.

Overall, Obama got 44% of the minority vote. Add to this the "White Trash" vote and single women vote and you're at the 47% Romney talked about. The "poor" man is a "victim" of economic circumstances. The Black man is a "victim" of slavery. The Hispanic is a "victim" of his birthplace. "White Trash" is a victim of the trailer park. A single woman is a victim of her pregnancy. And the others that voted for Obama? Well, they are just victims of there own ignorance.

I think we are witnessing a change of this term, the “47%”, from people not paying federal income tax to “everyone conservatives do not like, especially if they have a darker skin colour or did vote for someone with a darker skin colour”.

We will get quotes like this more and more, first from armchair politicians like the “cowboy” here, then from conservative media pundits and finally from GOP politicians.

It is a relatively safe term to foster racist prejudices without being (too) overtly racist.

Also it is easier to simply say “They didn’t vote for our candidate because he is white and they are not” than to actually check why their politics did not respond with the voters. That way the American right can still keep on their blinders, ignore reality for a little while longer and live in their own little fantasy world, where Fox News is “fair and balanced” and Barack Obama is a Nazi-Communist-Islamofascist Anti-Christ who was born simultaneously in Kenya and Indonesia.

I watched “Lincoln” this weekend and even as a non-American I have to say, it is sad what his party has become.

Well, yeah, after all he was taking to a crowd of rich inheritors who we all know ARE entitled not to just their money but the taxpayers money to, Romney included!

People who pay into their retirement plan don't deserve it, not while that huge protected completely viable fund could be cashed out and used to help the rich even more! And those veterans and serving aren't productive members of society, fuck them when your suggesting we pay taxes on Yahcts or private jets!

And yes Romney DID mean those people and did intend to take away their earned benefits.

I long for the days when at least one Canadian MP and One American congressmember was pushing to call corperate tax-cuts and write-offs as Corporate Welfare, it's proper name. This might have shamed some of them off the ever accelerating gravy train, especially since it could be tabulated and reported every year.

That dinner event, for instance carried a fee for attendance, those there that inherited active companies would have wrote that off on their taxes. When was the last time you got a free meal off the taxpayer? Romney hasn't actually paid for a meal in his life.

At first, he implies that Romney's "47%" all voted for Obama. Then he points out that a large percentage of that 47% were retirees. Many of them pay no income tax because the tax rate on Social Security benefits (which they purchased with money they already paid taxes on) is zero if you have less than $25K of other income ($32K for a couple). Finally, he admits that seniors preferred Romney, so his whole argument is a confused mess.

Of course he was talking about senior citizens. You can't get to 47% without including them. Conservative talking-heads quickly realized that Romney had put his foot in it and admitted the figure was more like 24% if seniors were excluded.

Man, do you have any fucking clue what I would give to see some privileged, white, middle-class, trying-and-failing-to-pretend-they're-not-racist, "you are not entitled to what I earned" teabagger type placed into the shoes of some illegal Mexican immigrant from a backwater Mexican village ruled by a drug cartel that contains no job prospects? They haven't got the faintest clue as to what such immigrants have been through. It was by way of fate, you dickwads, and not any effort on your part, that you were born into a healthy, wealthy, first-world democratic nation with ready access to employment, education and healthcare. Hispanics ARE victims of their birthplace. Everyone in the third world is a victim of their birthplace. You may recall that one of the "founding principles of the United States" that you're always harping on about is that of providing refuge to those who are being persecuted or can't find work in the country they were born in, and thus seek better lives. I.e... the pilgrims.

It's not "your's", it's the healthcare (a shitty one but better than none) of the entire country. It doesn't matter whether that person or member of society is white, black or latino if they have a job or are unemployed, it doesn't matter whether they were born in the country or somewhere else - and as a free-market worshipper you shouldn't be pissed at those who want your job, after all, if they work cheaper than you it's the free market.
There is no elite of people that have deserved all that and one that should just fuck off and die, it's a human right not to have bodily harm inflected upon you without your wish - therefor healthcare is human right. If you were born to rich people, they can pay for a better school and they can pay for a better college than any person born to poor parents ever could, so if you value hard work that much, shouldn't you also value that even that poor person has to have a fair shot? Has to be able to go to school and learn something? Has to be able to get into an average college? Because if not, you don't really like fair, but you like that which protects your richness against those who you discriminate against.

And another point, in all your crying wolve argumentation about being the victim, you forget one thing. If you are constantly claiming that everybody else is ganging up on you and wants your stuff and your whatever the fuck you belief to be threatend, aren't you also the victim? The victim of the society you life in? So let me use the same logic you do. "Tough shit! Stop crying you sissy and work harder!"

Given poor Whites were much more likely to vote for Romney, this leaves anywhere between 3% and 9% of the electorate being single women...

Interesting thing about the working poor, they do pay payroll taxes, which, of course, funds Social Security. You know, the Social Security fund that Congress has raided for the last decade to plug holes in the federal budget? Since Congress won't raise taxes to cover the spending they authorize, the working poor's Social Security money is used to buy everything from weapons systems to prisons.

Of course, everyone pays into Social Security, but since it is most likely the working poor's only source of income after retirement, they are disproportionately endangered by Congress sponging off the fund.

The super rich get a Social Security check too, but they will hardly miss it. So it is in their best interest to portray Social Security as another example of federal largess instead of a fund that workers pay into throughout their lives. If they can successfully lower Social Security benefits, Congress can keep raiding the fund for decades and not worry about raising taxes to pay it back. That's why the GOP wanted a slick prick like Romney to con people out of the system that workers paid for.
