When I first came into Christianity, I was introduced to a poor suffering Jesus. He was presented to me as the 'camel through the eye of the needle-rich man hating' Jesus. 'The birds have nests foxes have holes' Jesus.

Basically, I was shown a very poor impoverished version of Jesus Christ. And I believed it. People told me you can't have God and mammon, so I rejected mammon and gladly served God instead.

But then my bills started stacking up. I couldn't always afford to buy the things I needed. Sometimes my belly growled and I couldn't satisfy the hunger.

My clunker of a car kept breaking down; and because money was so tight I couldn't afford a real mechanic shop to get my car fixed at. So I settled for the jack-legged mechanic instead: which always necessitated me needing to get twice the amount of repairs.

I found myself battling through bouts of evictions and homelessness: all while serving God to the best of my ability. It didn't take me long to figure out the obvious:

Something was wrong. I guess sleeping in your car at a truck stop for a week can make things a bit plainer.

So after many frustrating months I went before God in fasting, Bible study and prayer to find out the answer. And that's when I discovered that I didn't know the real Jesus!

See, I had met Jesus the savior. And I had met Jesus the Lord. But I had yet to meet Jesus Christ the wealthy Ruler and King, possessor of all wealth and riches in Heaven and Earth.

I had yet to meet the rich Jesus: the millionaire Jesus. Let me share something with you that'll help you if you can receive it:

Jesus will only be as real to you as you are willing to receive Him. Another way of putting this is to say you will only experience Jesus and His powerful capabilities depending on what you believe He's capable of doing for you personally.

Accept a limited view of Jesus and you'll only experience a limited version of Him. But take those limits off and you'll get the full total Jesus experience!

This is why Paul told the Philippians: "But MY God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Why did He refer to 'my' God - thus personalizing Him - instead of saying 'our' God? Weren't they serving the same God? The answer is yes and no.

See, the Philippians had an idea or concept about who God was that was based on limitations they had placed on God due to their own limited beliefs. So they were serving a very limited version of God when it came to their finances.

But Paul had a different more unlimited idea about God - his own personal version of our Heavenly Father based on his own concepts and experiences with God. He was introducing this more powerful, richer aspect of God to the people he wrote to, in order to bolster their faith to expect God to do more for them too.

We serve a really big God! So why do you limit Him when it comes to your finances? Why do you put brakes on a brake-less God by trying to limit His unlimited ability?

You cannot really put brakes on God; but you can limit what He does for you personally in your life. Doubt is the equivalent of putting brakes on Him. But faith takes the limits off and allows God to fully be God in your life.
