Teen girls need to be sheltered from the world, seriously. Get rid of that darned television, move out to the country, and spend time together as a family cooking, playing board games, going on picnics, visiting places, listening to old records, et cetera. Don't allow Rock music in your home. Christian families are becoming non-existent because we are all absorbed into modern society. Every home has a TV. Thus, every home sees Hollywood sex and violence on TV. The Christian life is not an accident; it is lived deliberately, intentionally and personally. Rebels always gather in groups. This is why the Antichrist is trying to unite the world before he can come. Whereas Jesus stood alone, and died alone on the cross; the Antichrist cannot stand on his own two-feet. The Antichrist needs followers or else he is nothing.
Our only hope is to abandon the television and all forms of worldliness. I promise you that if you let your teenage daughter or son listen to worldly Rock music and watch television that they will want to stay in their room all day listening to music, or surfing the internet. These are spiritually dangerous and unhealthy things for a teenager.

You have clearly never raised a teenager. And if you think moving out to the country is going to remove a teen from all the "bad influences" you're even more deluded then we've ever imagined, and that's saying something. Rural teens can be even wilder than city kids, I know, I've experienced both.
teenagers of either gender are too old to need sheltering. that's the age when kids begin to grow into their own competence; they need guidance and help, but not sheltering.
and yeah, what LDM said about country kids. Warren Zevon had a great tune about rural living, might've made platinum except no radio station would ever play a song where the first line went "grandpa pissed his pants again " and it only got rougher from there.
I've raised one child to adulthood and my two youngest are now teenagers. I think I can say with absolute certainty that you know nothing about teens or what it takes to raise them.
Apparently you'd have them in their room all day reading their bibles or putting out for Uncle Dave.
You have to let them express themselves. Or does it benefit you somehow to have depressed children who have no idea what the outside world is like?
Now he sounds like my parents. Hey Davey, if let a teen express themselves, they won't need to vent on Internet forums. They will form their own opinions and identities. If you try to stop them, they'll go to others for advice. You cannot force them to act like your clone, you'll just force them to hide who they are.
Sorry, everyone, if all I seem to do is whine about my life. It's just that I have to pretend I'm a perfect, straight, Christian girl for my parents and hide practically everything I read, watch, or listen to and the fact that they seem not to understand the concept of "privacy" just makes it harder.
"cooking, playing board games, going on picnics, visiting places, listening to old records . . ."
All excellent things to do. But if you think kids will accept them as the only things to do, you have another think coming.
It didn't protect the Duggar girls, did it? Josh was sheltered, raised without TV or rock music, went on trips, presumably played board games, homeschooled, church every Sunday, and still got the idea to molest his sisters.
@Vera: I understand perfectly. My own parents won't even let me use my electronics alone as they're terrified I might actually form my own opinion and not be a cisgender straight Christian Conservative male. Anything else is penalized or punished somehow.
So, well, if it makes you feel better... I can relate.
bullshit. children need to learn to deal with whats in the world, and guided to recognise the appearance does not match intent.
Children can actually make very good choices about who they will and will not approach, if they get the chance.
Given the state of modern rock music, I can't blame you for not wanting it in your home. A lot of the newer stuff... just plain sucks, and no one should have to suffer through it.
A conclusion I came to the more I saw people like this still holds: untested virtue is not virtue at all. If you vehemently avoid anything that could lead you to reevaluate or compromise your personal philosophy, then when something gets through your screen, you have no resistance to it. Ever wonder why the kids from hyper-sheltered homes often find themselves in the worst debauchery when they are exposed to the outside world?
If you never learn things like "moderation", never learn how to say "no, I'm good", and are taught just how horrible and vile all this is, when you are exposed and find out that it isn't as bad as they say... well, I'm sure you can reason that out for yourself.
If you want your kid to avoid being a barefoot drunken social disaster, this is not how you do it.
So David thinks everyone should be Amish?
Listen to old records? Parents have been complaining about music since the days of ragtime. Are you saying it's OK to listen to the Charleston or Elvis?
Also, read your own damn book. Jesus didn't stand alone, he had twelve disciples. He didn't die alone on the cross, he was crucified with two thieves.
Pedo, stop calling it "rock music"; it's beyond annoying.
The "christian life" is fucking pathetic & needs to be eradicated, starting with pedos like David J, Stewart.
To all the poor souls languishing in Fundieland~ I sympathize. I never lived through it myself, but I can imagine how frustrating it must be. Hopefully you can run far, far away the first chance you get.
@ Vera and SnowyGlaceon
I'm sure a lot of us adults hear you on this one, but no matter how bad the control is at home, unless you're being physically abused, keep your heads down and suck it up until you've finished college, if your parents intend to help you with that, instead of moving out when you turn 18. Take their shit along with all the help you can get to get on your feet in life, and THEN make a break for it. From someone who's been there.
Funny, I know a helicopter parent who outlawed TV for her kids and obsessively scrutinized everything they read. One kid is now doing sex and drugs at 14. Doesn't seem like such a good plan, now, does it?
Christian families are becoming non-existent
70% of the US is "non-existent"??
Every home has a TV.
Um... no, not anymore. I've lived in several homes with no TV. NEARLY every home has a computer, but it's not the same thing.
Also, didn't fear of "the Rock music" go out of vogue in the early 60s?
David J. Stewart
Oh, that explains it. But should YOU, of all people, really be telling others how to treat children?
Christian families are becoming non-existent because we are all absorbed into modern society.
So you're admtting that Christianity is a very weak religion that can only exist on its own terms, as you see them, and which collapses the minute it's exposed to new challenges? Interesting.
I wonder what Jesus would have to say to that.
I know a girl with strict asshat parents. She's an ultra-feminist self-described slut who is considering joining the Church of Satan. You really want that strictness now?
@Vera: Nothing wrong with whining if your reasons are legitimate, which they are in this case.
I know a girl raised like this. She's my cousin, actually and her father is the type who writes into the local newspaper bitching about the New World Order and how feminism is ungodly yatta yatta. Same drivel we see here.
She was raped. Forced to carry her baby. And then he made his wife adopt the girl. She also has mild Downs Syndrome. And no one knows who the father is despite the fact she's pretty much been kept in a pink cage and has the mental acuity of a 9 year old.
Yeah. Real great country Christian parenting. You definitely get results you can see.
Well, a few of you beat me to it, but I'm going to say it anyway....
"Teen girls need to be sheltered from YOU, Davey-boy."
Teen girls need to be sheltered from the world.
Teen girls need to be sheltered from the world David J. Stewart..
Teen girls Guam needs to be sheltered from David J. Stewart.
Guam The world needs to be sheltered from the David J. Stewarts.
Confused?
