I have found Atheists to be more close minded than most Christians. They also have this superior "better than thou" attitude that comes with someone who believes that they are looking at insects when they see someone with a religion (I should say "another religion" since Atheism IS a religion). Some Pagans (the New Age Type) are stupid enough to think that Atheists are better than Christian, but that makes the Pagan nothing more than a "Useful Idiot". The Atheists will go after them if then ever defeat the Christians and Jews. The New Agers hate Christianity so much that they even back the Moslems over the Christians.

Actually, I look at religious people more naive children, or in the case of fundies like a dumb dog that keeps pissing on the carpet and chewing my shoes.

You can capitalize it as much as you want it's still not true.
"The Atheists will go after them if then ever defeat the Christians and Jews."
What exactly does it look like if Atheists go after somebody? Did we stop the poor Christians from treating homosexuals like dirt? Or did we had the audaciousness of giving your women rights? Maybe you feel really persecuted since you can't burn witches anymore in your backyard? If that's the "going after" you are talking about than I don't think pagans have much of a problem with that, except maybe when it somes to pseudo-science medicine but we already got that covered by trying not to allow your faith healers to murder your own children.
"better than thou attitude," such as the one that says, "Follow my religion or suffer eternal torture"? I've never seen an atheist make a claim like that, but do you know who does?
As an atheist, it sucks to say this, but amongst some people there does seem to be an attitude of "well, I've made the right decision, so why haven't you?"
I get it, but it doesn't matter. Intelligence isn't defined by what god you choose to follow, or if you follow one at all. There are more important things.
Also, it's not about "defeating" any other religion. It's about being comfortable with your own choices, not thinking you're better than anyone else.
There have been Christian geniuses and atheist idiots, and, of course, vice-versa.
I have found atheists to be very different from each other. Some are open-minded, others are close-minded, some are superior, others are tolerant, some accept religious people, others hate religious people. Very, very few are planning to "go after" anyone. Most atheists see little or no difference between Muslims and Christians.
I've found that I respected people most if I didn't know their religion on the first conversation.
Why? Because healthy, normal faith (or lack thereof) is a discrete thing that others only find out about once they know you a little or it happened to be on topic. If it's the first thing you have to say about yourself, you're either a fundie or a very uninteresting person.
I have found fundies to be more closed minded than most Christians. Fixed!

As opposed to fundies who gleefully think of how all their "enemies" such as atheists, Pagans, Jews, Muslims, and even other Christians will roast in Hell.
And insects? Kind of like how your God views humanity?

I should say "another religion" since Atheism IS a religion
And that is a big fat FAIL!

And finally, atheists aren't "going after" anyone, but I see you love having a persecution complex.
"that they even back the Moslems over the Christians."
Only when the Muslims are right or when the Christians are lieing about them. Which over the last few years is quite a lot of lies and wrongness from the Fundamentalist segment of Christianity.
You've found atheists more close minded than christers.
Well, here's a secret: no body gives a shit what you think.
Another one who is intellectually incapable of understanding the fact that atheists, despite a few who have clubs, are not a group. Atheism is the "none of the above" at the end of any list of religions. Alas, one of the key traits of a Believer is that they can not comprehend people who don't Believe in anything.
BTW. Most of that alleged arrogance stems from the fact that atheists tend to rely on the latest journals rather than a 3,000 year old novel for our news and views of the universe.
And yet the superior attitudes of Christians can be found on FSTDT every day. Assholes can be found with all shades of religious and political opinion. And atheism is a religion in the same way as pork is halal.
@UHM
To answer your question on what happens when atheists go after somebody on account of their religion, the experience in this part of Europe shows they lose their places of worship, often their homes, they end up in labor camps and, in more than a few cases, they are shot for crimes such as baptizing a baby. That's why, when communism fell in Albania, there was hardly anyone left who could make the call to prayer or say mass. The result? Springtime for fundie missionaries.
Christians tend to have the Holier than Thou attitude far more than any atheist I dealt with. Also considering the hatred Chrsitians seem to have towards Pagans, it is no question as to why many Pagans would say they don't care for Christians who insult them and tell them they worship the devil or are evil.
"I have found Atheists to be more close minded"
...yes, our minds are close , aren't they?
We're certainly more educated to know that it's spelled 'CLOSED'-minded, you inferior subhuman cunt.
Thought(s) for the day:
'An open mind is like a fortress with it's gates unbarred and unguarded'. A small mind is easily filled with faith '. [/"WH40K"]
Speaking as a Neo-Pagan (which is what you meant by 'the New Age Type', you might want to try educating yourself on terminology), we get along with atheists better than you because most atheists are either pretty decent folk (same for Christians or Muslims or any other religion), and the crazy ones just don't know or care that we exist. As far as Islam goes, it's one of your Abrahamic religions, and we pretty much just think of it as that.
Firstly, atheism is not a religion. Secondly, atheists and pagans don't hate Christians. They understandably get upset when certain Christians do horrible and douchey things, though, in the name of Christianity. And thirdly, atheists aren't out to "defeat" anyone.
How does that saying go... Atheism is a personal relationship with reality. Atheists are realistic and came to the logical conclusion that humans invented god and religion. If someone thinks that's vain and "closed minded" I don't really know what to say. Not that atheists can't be arrogant, god knows most people can be, but more often than not atheists get labeled as such simply for being educated and knowledgeable. Or because they get fed up and irritated with Christian bullshit and bigotry. They want to be able to spew out as much ignorance, BS, and hateful gibberish as they want and for atheists to just play nicey-nice in return.
>> they even back the Moslems over the Christians.
<<
Personally I'd like to use, oh, maybe a bus to back over the Christians with, but Hey! If you can get a big enough Moslem...

I've found that I respected people most if I didn't know their religion on the first conversation.
I work in a big box hardware store with a fundie who always gets in the newbies' faces with his Jesus shit, right away. One day a new guy named Damien came into the department and Holy Joe gets right up in there with "Son, do you believe in Jesus?" (I'm groaning at this point ...again)
Damien points to the name on his apron and says, "Hey. Do you see this? Do you have any idea what the fuck this shit is about?"
End of sermon.
I almost became a Damienite on the spot.
No one is trying to end all religion or kill your particular brand of mythology. Except maybe the anti-theists, who are actually kind of dicks.
All we ask is that you do what your own prophet said you should do and keep your faith a private affair. It's great to believe in something and have faith, but keep that faith out of politics and out of the public view.
"[5] And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. [6] But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." ~ Matthew 6:5-6
For the record, here is the question to which this Yahoo! Answer is attached:
"How unfortunate are children who are born from Atheist parents?
Do Atheist parents educate their children? It is their right to know about Jesus.
Believe me, Mr. Question Asker, atheist parents educate their children about Jesus better than most Christian parents do....
Reposted because it's true; thanks Swede.

I have found that those who insist that atheism is a religion have their head so far up their delusional box that they can't imagine a frame of reference other than their own.
Atheists defeat the Christians and Jews? If there was a group that was even trying, I'd bet on the Generals to defeat the Harlem Globe Trotters first!
Speaking as a Pagan, you're full of shit. We tend to dislike anyone who gives us a hard time, spreads lies about us and harasses us over our religious beliefs. Christians do that constantly. Ever had a Pagan yell at you in public because you were christian? No. I have been yelled at in the presence of my two youngest children, however, by a christian woman who was pissed off because I'm not a christian.
So yes, I tend to dislike you people. To be honest, loathing is actually a more accurate term. If Muslims harassed me over my beliefs I'd despise them too.
Guess who doesn't? Atheists. Out of the scores of Atheists I've met online and in person I've only had two go Full Metal Fundy on me. Yes, there are those that dislike the fact that any religious beliefs exist, even if you aren't bothering anyone with yours, but those Atheists are extremely rare. The Atheist community in general seems to care less about a person's faith and more about what type of person you are. I have met more Atheists who behave in a loving, compassionate and Christlike manner than christians, to be honest. Assholes like you should take lessons from them, no.

No wonder then, that my Atheist father didn't exactly discourage me from reading the Bible cover-to-cover in my teens. He didn't so much as disturb me whilst I did so.

Thank you, Dad. And to you, Mr. Asimov. Reading that Bible:

It was the best education I'd ever had. It certainly opened my mind; but in such a way as to make you wish Johannes Gutenberg had never invented moving type, and - via William Caxton - thus early mass-production of Bibles in the first place.
@Deep Search
I've seen plenty of "Fundie" atheists spew pretty stupid shit at me before, so that's more character flaw capable of all humans than unique to atheism or believers.
As for Atheists, they aren't... anti-theists. Just Atheists. There are some anti-theists out there who have certain reasons to dislike or hate religion.
I'm personally Agnostic and technically atheist. I would like something to believe in, something that resonates with me. I feel... a spiritual need. Perhaps growing up religious gave me that. I know not everyone has it. So... Atheist more just by being an interposition between being a different kind of believer. I can't say I feel any ill will towards Muslims, CHristians, pagans, Hindus, animists... sooo not much about Useful idiots.
Atheism though is a position more on the belief versus unbelief scale, not on the Fundie versus normal or a statement on what they believe.
And remember, Fundie on the site means extremism in any particular doctrine, not all spiritual.
@Hasan Prishtina: come on, you know better than that. That wasn't atheists going after poor widdle Christians, that was the agents of a totalitarian regime going after a rival power structure. Atheism was but the pretext they used.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
