Sex is, quite simply, our society’s new god; our new Absolute. Anything is done, tolerated, sacrificed, justified, sanctified, glorified for this god.

A third of our mothers murder their unborn babies in sacrifice to this god. Of course abortion is about sex. The only reason for abortion is to have sex without babies. Abortion is backup contraception.

Or, look at the acceptance of divorce. Families, the one absolutely necessary building block of all societies are destroyed for this god. Half of American citizens commit suicide for this god; for Divorce is suicide of the ‘one flesh’ that love has created.

No one justifies lying, cheating, betraying, promise-breaking, devastating and harming strangers; but we justify, we expect, we tolerating doing this to the one person we promised most seriously to be faithful to forever. We justify divorce.

No one justifies child abuse, except for sex. Divorce is child abuse for the sake of sex.

Even all the churches justify divorce, except one: the one that does not claim the authority to correct Christ–and she is accused of being authoritarian.

Indeed. Instead, you're supposed to put up with a spouse who lies, cheats, betrays, breaks his or her promises, devastates and harms you. Because your marriage is more valuable than the life of you or your children.

Divorce is child abuse for the sake of sex.

And keeping children in a relationship with an abusive parent is just dandy.

I've googled Dr Keeft and looked at a few websites, but none of them tell me whether or not he is married. Funny that.

Yeah, people have sex lives. For most people it is a healthy exercise of their desire for a relationship and social and physical contact. Way to be as ludicrously dramatic about it as possible.

Often enough people get divorced simply because the relationship turned into something neither of them enjoyed. It didn't work out. Divorce doesn't necessarily happen because one party wants to go off and have sex with someone else. But who really cares if that happens? People split up. Why be in a loveless, miserable relationship?

And, yeah, abortion ends a pregnancy and keeps a child from developing. Sane people realize this and accept legal abortion as the best option available so women have a safe option to stop a pregnancy. The alternatives are deaths, botched self abortions, and unwanted children being dumped or abused. Even married women, women who would like to have children, and "pro-lifers" get abortions, for various reasons.

Am I the only one who's bothered by the fact that he seems to assume that people only seem to have started fucking with the current generation? The only real difference between the sex we're having today and the sex our ancestors had generations ago, is that today we're more willing to talk about it.

I'm reminded of the story my father used to tell about the time his mother had found a condom in his brother's jacket. My uncle then had to explain to her what it was. Her response was, "if only I'd known about it when I was younger!" (My father was the youngest of eight). Later, my grandmother went up to my father and said, "Let me tell you about this new invention....."

As bone-headed as the rest of Peter's rant is, he's almost got a point here. Nobody thinks twice about marriage in today's society because it's so thoroughly vestigial (we have more reliable means of determining inheritance and who the baby's father was), but more importantly because it's simply expected. Marriage (or lack thereof) has undue influence on our legal system and unmarried parents are stigmatized because religious nuts, and more importantly the average citizen, assumes that childrearing must involve a lifelong vow to be together. Biology and sociology have demonstrated that most people don't want to make that sort of a vow just to have kids.

Marriage should not have one iota of legal entitlement. Civil unions should, with a less religious perspective on government entitlements for parents.

I'm sure at least one other person has made this comment (sorry, too lazy to wade through the three pages tonight x_x) but as someone who came from an unhappy marriage, I can tell you from experience that this is horseshit. Both my sister and I fully agree that our childhoods probably would have been much happier had our parents gotten a divorce early on and moved on with their lives. The constant, rage-filled fighting and the bitter resentment both our parents felt not only at each other, but at us for "keeping" them together against their will was almost unbearable. This person has absolutely no idea what the fuck he's talking about but I guess that's obvious.
