[On the internet persecution of psychics like himself:]
I remember the irony of it on DailyKos; these were liberals committed to calling out Republicans on their nonsensical talking points and demanding facts, all the while spewing skeptic talking points and avoiding the facts. It was as if the mention of psi flipped a switch inside of them and all their brains fell out.
I've come to understand that it is time to redefine what we're dealing with:
Bigotry.
I know that skeptics don't see themselves that way and I understand their reluctance to take on that label, particularly when they see themselves as defending rationality and protecting the public from scams, but is what they're doing really any different from scores of other conservative people who have calmly expressed why other groups needed to be marginalized? I don't think so.
When skeptics claim that psychic ability doesn't exist, what does that say about us? That we're either frauds or feebleminded? An attack on psychic ability is actually a very personal attack on us.
And as a result, many of us have had to hide our ability and have not been free to be who we are. We live in a society that only allows us to operate on the margins and dismisses our abilities as mere "magical thinking." I am tired of it.
What all of this means is that we are just like every other minority group. Nothing is going to change until we make it happen. We are not fighting the slowness of the advance of science, we are fighting bigotry.

"either frauds or feebleminded", yes, that sounds fair enough. most of you, i'd call self-deluded, but you'd probably hear that and interpret it as "feebleminded", so let's go with that.
and by all means, don't hide your "ability". demonstrate it to the James Randi Foundation. there might still be money in it for you, if you can.
Is there a law preventing psychics from using their ability? I know there's laws against selling it for money, but that's not quite the same thing...
Heck, I don't think there's even a law on the books preventing you from using it to predict the Powerball numbers. Would've come in really handy.
No, it isn't bigotry to call out flim-flam men. You say psi, I say show me. I don't know if you're "frauds or feebleminded" or just self-deluded, and I imagine there are some of each. But it isn't bigotry to disbelieve your psychic abilities. There is no requirement to believe every cockamamie claim.
isn't there legitimate experiments for psychic powers? also, I believe I have some abilities but its' just limited to some mild empathic abilities and some flashes of precognition that doesnt' happen anymore. and it wasnt' in my control. that's another thing, what about the psychics who don't have it on demand?
Sigh. Scientifically verified proof, or it didn't happen.
That's where the skepticism comes from: you have no proof whatsoever that your powers exist, but you expect others to take your word that they do.
"We live in a society that only allows us to operate on the margins and dismisses our abilities as mere "magical thinking." I am tired of it."
You're tired of it? Then submit to a controlled scientific experiment. If you truly have some paranormal ability, that should confirm its existence.
And if you refuse to do that on grounds like "Skepticism is like radio noise to my power, blocking it! So it only functions in the prescence of people who HAVE FAITH in the power!" the skeptics will continue to regard your claim as not proven and not believe in it.
Psykers are mutants and abominations in the eyes of the God Emperor. Know the witch, kill the witch.
Kill the Heretic.
Burn the Mutant.
Purge the Unclean.
"When skeptics claim that psychic ability doesn't exist, what does that say about us? That we're either frauds or feebleminded?"
Pretty much, yes. The burden of proof is on you.
” many of us have had to hide our ability and have not been free to be who we are.”
Well, then you know somewhat of how it is to be homosexual.
No, you're fighting against your inability to provide scientific evidence for your supposed psychic ability.
Bigotry, according to Wikipedia
"In English the word "bigot" refers to a person whose habitual state of mind includes an obstinate, irrational, or unfair intolerance of ideas, opinions, ethnicities, or beliefs that differ from their own, and intolerance of the people who hold them."
We do not have irrational intolerance against you. We're simply saying "provide evidence". You’re perfectly free to believe that you have psychic abilities, but we are just as free to be skeptic about that. Skepticism isn’t intolerance. Imprisoning you as witches or burning you at the stake would be intolerant.
When nobody takes you seriously, play the persecuted victim card.
You want us to believe in your psychic abilities? Win the lottery a couple times. Take up James Randi's million dollar challenge. Or even just submit to objective scientific testing.
Not seeing James Randi 'Persecuting' you personally .
So why aren't you 'Persecuting' the doors of his JREF off their hinges in turn, if what you & all your ilk 'claim' is fact?
In all the time that prize has been unclaimed, the value of the bearer bonds that make up that prize is now worth $1.5 million.
A cool million or so for proving your 'abilities' in a lab, so as to determine the actual mechanics of such, so as they can be replicated by scientists/physicians? A small price to pay: or by that prize still unclaimed to this day, you & all your ilk only serve to prove that your 'abilities' are nothing more than utter bollocks.
Fakes, Frauds & Charlatans, the lot of you! Your persecution is not only more than justified, it's a sacred act: you more -than deserve everything you get.
Psychic powers - if they exist at all - are so poorly defined, questionably documented, and utterly unreliable/inconsistent that they would be effectively useless and any claim to have them would naturally be suspect. More importantly those who have claimed to have psychic abilities have been tested and consistently revealed as frauds. Even a government funded program to try and harness psychic powers as a tool came up empty. It went bust so bad they made a movie mocking it.
People have every right to question somebody that tries to influence their actions and those who go around telling people they see the future or speak to the dead always are either to gain money or add weight to their counsel.
Anyone who claims to have a functional and reliable psychic ability is full of it. I say this as someone who used to dream about future events and as a child randomly uttered references to bands and films that didn't yet exist including knowing the events of The Pest in their entirety after dreaming I saw it as a made for TV movie years before the script was ever puked out.
And yes this claim is suspect, even moreso because I am using it to influence your opinion.
