(2) There has never been a time that you were "guaranteed a mate". Never. That's fantasy. You can stop whining too.

Well, there were countries with arranged marriages, but last time I checked, despite what these douche bags like to claim, NOBODY likes arranged marriages. Man or woman. And it was hated because it removed the freedom to choose.
Of course, these douches clearly think that marriage should be more akin to a slave market, where men walk up and down the rows, point at a woman they like, and say "That one!"

You actually believe everyone was guaranteed a mate in the past? Only people who could afford to "buy" a mate from her father got a mate in the past. Women in the past who no-one was interested in became a financial burden on their parents and brothers for life. The did, in effect, die alone. Peasants weren't lowly, they were the backbone of the village. Farmhands, travelers, etc were the lowly ones.
Dying in the trenches was not with honor and dignity. It was dirty, cold, and about as many died of exposure as of wounds. And they were probably buried in mass-graves, perhaps some while they were still alive.
