Having your reality constantly challenged feels like gaslighting. And often, it is.
But look at, say, Flat Earthers. The vast majority of people find their arguments unconvincing if not absurd. Their views are challenged constantly by “globist propaganda” - information, ideas, and even news which inherently assume the world is round without necessarily stating it outright. I’ve even heard the argument that this refusal to entertain their views as having equal or greater validity to the normal consensus amounts to gaslighting them. But is it really? Not by the normal definition of the word. Even if they were correct that the world is flat, that would imply that the vast majority of people are claiming to believe the world is round for no reason except to abuse and/or manipulate Flat Earthers.
Having an extremely unpopular minority view constantly dismissed may feel bad, especially if you’re invested in it being an absolute truth, but it’s not gaslighting. But on the other hand, believing that it is can be tantamount to gaslighting yourself, so…
