Don't let douchebags like this scare you off. The US is still worth visiting, and most of us Americans are decent people. It's just that we have a population of ~300 million, so a tiny minority of assholes is still a lot of people.
I live just outside Minneapolis, home of the largest population of Somali refugees in the US, and the local Muslim-operated shopping and food malls are extremely popular among the largely Swedish and Norwegian population. Of course, most of the people around here are reasonably sane and educated past the 4th grade, so you probably wouldn't fit in. Believe me, we don't want you traveling here even if you're only changing planes at MSP airport.

I'm from Nashville, the Muslim community (very, very Kurdish, but some Somalis nowadays plus other random Arabs, Persians, and Turks) improves this place (dat food), and even if one of them did some crimes (even Orlando style), it wouldn't be any worse than what the locals would do. There was a Kurdish street gang ("Kurdish Pride Gang") a while back, cops shut them down big time, the local Kurds condemned it and thought the people involved were idiots, life went on, except for people like this who obsess over crimes committed by people they already hate even though there are criminals in every group (googling "Kurdish Pride Gang" brings you to tons of nutjob websites obsessed over the fact they were Muslim and telling you nonsense related with them--I never found them much different than the local Crips and Bloods and assorted scum).
@TimeToTurn: If they were about "Kurdish Pride", I imagine it would have more to do with how shittily the rest of the Muslim world is treating the Kurds right now. Sure, there was probably extremism and jihadism in the mix, but it would be a consequence, not a cause.
