Ted Turner had a cartoon fashioned after environmentalism called "Captain Planet". It was unbearable to watch. I did an essay on the environmentalism movement for college. It is a religion that will not rest until mankind, or the "virus" as they would have us believe, is wiped off of "mother earth". Everyone except them. I have a book that I haven't read that sits in a box with some other ones. It's called the "Third Reich" and the back leaf says "..if Hitler were alive today, he would be at the forefront of the environmental movement." Islam is "environmentally friendly". So is Baraq o Bawmaw. Notice any patterns?

"Notice any patterns? "
Yes. All of them to do with the lack of potency of your thought processes. All of them pointing to you being a feeble-minded simpleton. It's as if you are really saying, "I am a moronic individual with a tendency to swallow any old gibberish that I have been told, take it all to be literally true and wholeheartedly believe every word of it."
I actually kinda agree with this guy, apart from the last two sentences.
Environmentalism has become like a religion, one major characteristic it shares with religion is the tendency to throw out evidence that doesn't support the pre-ordained belief.
Say what about Islam? Oil sheiks mean anything to you?
(You don't suppose he's getting confused by green being the colour of Islam, do you?)
"I did an essay on the environmentalism movement for college."
Did it mention the environment, or just take cheap shots at environmentalism?
"I have a book that I haven't read."
Gee, what a surprise.
"Islam is "environmentally friendly".
Que?
"Notice any patterns?"
Yeah, but I won't use grenades on fish in a barrel.
Oh snap! You should get a Hitler ventriloquist's dummy that's for everything you're against. That way if someone comes up with an idea you don't like, you can pull out Hitler dummy and say "Ja, ve should *totally* do that!" Oh, and after you crush them with that tactic, be sure to say "Check-MATE!"
When you see their face buried in their palm, that shows that they've been utterly defeated. Congratulations! With my help, you have become the greatest debater on Earth.
You're welcome.
I have a book in a box that says that we lost WWII, The Nazi's run Great Britain and have a strained trade partnership with the US.
Well if it's in a book it must be true, right?
Oh, and instead of buying books to put in boxes (for the next book burning?) Try actually reading them, try understanding what the term fiction means. Try understanding that not every idea someone puts to paper is right.
Man, I was wondering how long it would be before I saw a quote ragging on "Captain Planet" and its environmental message.
Incidentally, I always wanted one of those cool Planeteer rings as a kid. :)
One thing I do agree with is that Captain Planet was extremely lame, but when I was growing up I was also extremely lame, so naturally I liked the show. Looking back now, I realize just how dull it was, and yeah, Heart is the most useless power.
Just as an aside, we used to watch this in Kuwait, drunk on homemade wine, in Arabic. It beat the alternative of watching thousands of pilgrims doing circuits of the big black cube.
You know what else Hitler did? Breathed air. Ate food. Drank water. Clearly, anyone who does those three things is JUST LIKE HITLER.
Now do you get why it's so stupid?
Baraq o Bawmaw?
The fuck?
@ Table Rock
Even worse, Watchman in childhood games of pretend Captain Planet he was relegated to playing the rhesus monkey that belonged to the kid whose power was "heart".
It was either that or put on his sister's dress and play Gaia.
I agree that Craptain Planet was one of the worst cartoons ever.
The rest, however, is giving me the giggles. Where do you get the idea that islam is environmentally friendly? Muslims are like you - they don't give a wet fart about the planet because they think their god is going to eventually destroy it.
In answer to your godwin, it doesn't matter how environmentally friendly some high profile people are, they will never be a rabid as these people , who advocate for the extermination of all humans in order to remove the root cause of animal suffering.
Still think Obama is a radical, you silly asshole?
"I have a book that I haven't read that sits in a box with some other ones."
Hey, I think I know who you are! Can you see Russia from your back yard?
"It is a religion"
there are religions around such concepts such as Gaia, mother earth and animal worship but these are not environmentalism as a whole. All of these religions may be environmentalist, but not all environmentalists are in these religions.

I have a book that I haven't read
I have a book that I haven't read

Not only is he misinformed, he doesn't even bother to go further than the back leaf of a book he has to get misinformed. In other words, he just made it up. When did critical thinking die, or am I just naive in thinking that it ever existed?
Tell me this again when you're choking on polluted air and can't find any clean water to drink.
Normally I wouldn't care if you made your home unlivable, but in this case it's my home too, and I won't let you ruin it because you think you're too good to clean up after yourself!
Honestly, what is so goddamned evil about making sure the earth can continue to support us?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
