Slavery is bad because it's bad to force people to work for nothing while forcing them to stay in that situation.

Jesse Lee Peterson: The slaves were paid. They were fed and housed. They were given Christianity. Many bought their freedom and became harsh masters themselves. Their descendants live in the greatest nation on this side of heaven. There’s a right orderly way to do things.

1. In the unlikely chance that they were paid at all, it would’ve been next to nothing.

2. The food would’ve been substandard, and the houses would’ve been small huts at best.

3. If they did convert to Christianity, it would’ve been under pain of death. Also, they were beaten, whipped, raped, taken from their parents, etc. That’s not even mentioning the breeding farms. None of this would’ve given them much reason to follow the religion of their masters.

That, Jesse, is how slavery is bad.

They weren’t paid, dude. They were considered property, like a horse or cow. Most of them had to grow their own food outside of what they worked on as slaves. They didn’t just get food from the master, that would be a loss of profit!! Some of them converted willingly to Christianity, some of them already were Christian (Ethiopia and some other countries in Africa had been Christian for a very long time - even if they weren’t from east Africa, they would’ve heard of it). Also, the thing is, when we decided to go with racially based slavery where one’s skin color marked whether or not they were enslaved, whites in this country created a racial under class. Even now, when we haven’t officially had slavery for 157 years (about 8 generations), when we (all of us, not just whites, in general) see a particular skin color, we still associate that with slavery, even if the person turns out to be from somewhere else that wasn’t involved in the slave trade. That is a true curse dude.

This is the version of Critical Race Theory put forward by Chris Rufo: Some white people in the past did a bad, so white kids today would have a sad. Therefore we must protect the kiddies by rewriting history, and then accuse anyone who corrects us of being the real history rewriters. Which is not remotely a new idea, because conservatives rarely come up with anything original.

Yeah, that’s a problem, not a plus. If i bought two slaves from the market, and they married and had kids, i owned the kids. The kids would have to buy their freedom, too. Didn’t cost me anything to acquire them, the kids did nothing to earn it, but they’re mine, unless and until the family scraped up enough money to buy the wife’s freedom, then her kids were hers, not mine.

Isn’t it more likely that someone born to harsh treatment turning out harsh because that’s the only way they know how to act around slaves?

Your "love" is ignorance and bigotry. Your "anger" is history, awareness and tolerance, not the common meaning of anger.

Edit/Adding: We cannot go back in the past. History is not "anti-white" or "white-hatred". If knowledge also allows to prevent the repetition of the darkest periods of human history, however, that is also a virtue. Awareness is still not self-flaggelation. To argue about this means that you would like to censor knowledge of the past to replace it with pseudohistory and/or use this to justify current or future problematic situations or policies. This often goes in pair with pseudoscience attempting to portray a subset of humans as a distinct biological race or as being inherently superior or inferior, etc. Not only these ideologies rest on false premises, but they were used to promote bigotry, division, exploitation and enact mass murders and crimes against humanity.

You are not “white on the inside.” Self-loathing is not a race.

Ok, it’s bad enough when people start to try and white-wash history so that the descendants of fucking slave owners won’t feel bad about their heritage (in reality a transparent ploy to do the same mistakes all over again, and continue the ones that were never really solved), but saying this openly that slavery is and was not bad? You really have to be fucking deluded to come to that conclusion.
Let’s get a bit philosophical here: Why is it bad to own a human being as property? First of all, because human life has inherent dignity and worth. Hell, the question nowadays is not whether that is true, but whether this should also apply to other animals as well. Reducing a human being to property is a crass objectification and dehumanization.
Continuing from that, it will ALWAYS cause slave owners to abuse them since the threshold of violating their base human dignity has already been crossed and (in my opinion) there is an inherent need to force yourself (as a slave owner) and others to see slaves as somehow “not human” to continue viewing them as property and to not develop empathy with them. Easiest way to do that? Violence, rape, casual murder, impossible living conditions (including very much sub-par housing and food they had to grow themselves on the side) and (in the case of american slavery, but also elsewhere) rampant racism as a rationale to explain away the humanity of the slaves. And this rationale sadly survived its original intent, best seen in the discriminatory practices and laws all over the US against black people.
Being christian or being converted to Christianity didn’t help black slaves at all, since they were not seen as people in the same way as white people (to explain away the problem of Christianity demanding to not violate and murder your fellow men).
The US is FAR from being the best country in the world (it should not be a competition anyway), and it DEFINITELY wasn’t for black slaves.
And if it’s true that some brought their freedom and then took slaves themselves, then these people were assholes too, but just like people who become violent because they know nothing but violence in their life, that’s because of the dehumanizing system they were already born in, created by white slave owners.
If you still don’t understand the horrors of slavery by now, of being forced without consent to work without pay, dehumanized into property for profit… then it’s obvious that your only agenda is to make your white conservative listeners feel better about their slave owner heritage and their own racism. Or you are fucking stupid. Or both.

This reminds me of the film: "The Twilight Zone: The Movie" where someone with a lot of prejudices ended up temporarily living the experiences of people he despised. On the other hand, tragically, the irony is that there was a helicopter incident on a set that ended up killing children. Investigations found out that they also exploited actors.
