I just don't understand why some atheists claim to also believe and accept evolution when it is part of many ancient pagan religions? Why can't an atheist just be an atheist?

Wait a second ... this person thinks evolution (a theory that was barely developed at all in the 1800s and not seriously fleshed out until the mechanism for inheritance was understood in the 1900s) is an *ancient* idea?
How can anyone be this ignorant?
(I think this one deserves a nomination for "Most Edumacated Creationist". Might be a few better suited to it, though.)
He's confusing Evolution with metamorfing into another creature or connecting to it, part of some Pagan natare based beliefs.
Or more to the point: Christians try to villify evolution by comparing it to supernatural beliefs, part of their "Science IS a Religion" argument
"I just don't understand why some atheists claim to also believe and accept evolution when it is part of many ancient pagan religions?"
Argumentum ad ignorantiam, much? The pagan religions believed in a 'Mother Earth' (especially the Celts; Caillech, goddess of the Earth. Eostre, Goddess of Spring etc)
We Atheists don't need to 'believe', i.e. that the sun may rise tomorrow. We know it'll happen. Scientific facts say so.
'Faith' not required.
Can you say for certain, based on empirical scientific facts (and with physical evidence to back up such) that you'll go to 'Heaven' when you die, blueeyeliner?
It's okay, I can wait...
Erm, what? Sure, other people had thought along those lines before Darwin, but not enough to formulate a hypothesis or a belief system. Darwin lived around the middle of the 19th century, that's hardly ancient.
So, if you are an atheist, you are not allowed to accept any other ideas or philosophies or thoughts within scientific fields. The only thing an atheist is allowed to think is "I find no evidence for the existence of any gods". That sounds unbelievably boring.
“Why can't an atheist just be an atheist?”
Oh NOES! I have opinions on a variety of topics, some completely disconnected from each other!
Because i don’t have to vet EVERY SINGLE THOUGHT i have against an invisible skybeing’s demands.
How confusing for you.
But that’s your problem, not ours.
“I just don't understand why some atheists claim to also believe and accept evolution when it is part of many ancient pagan religions?”
Dude, I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in any religions. I think they’re all man-made.
So if there’s evidence for something, i don’t NEED to reject it just because a religion promotes it.
Your bible says not to murder. That’s a good idea. I can accept that for reasons OTHER than ‘godsaidit.’
your bible also says that women should be put to death if they’re raped and don’t cry out. That’s a pretty fucked-up idea and i reject it.
I don’t know of any religion that promoted evolution before the scientific observations for it were collected, but even if there were, i accept it becase of the science, not because Ptah directs me to.
It’s not all that confusing.
Confused?
