Strange thing – countries or states that seek to deny Christ normally end up as terrible places to be in

hmmm.... on the one hand, Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands; on the other, Amurrica and certain African countries. yeaaaahhh.... i know which ones i'm picking
*coughcoughSwedencough*
@Doubting Thomas: Actually, from what I've seen in Alabama, it is perfectly legal to sell sex toys, as long as there's a big sticker on the package that says, "For Novelty Use ONLY."
I still giggle at that. Yes, they're going to use them as a novelty--it's not as much fun once the novelty's worn off!
Hmmm...Canada's pretty secular, and it's pretty nice up here. I mean, it gets a smidge chilly during the winter, but relativel low crime, good health care...it's not bad here.
You are full of shit. I've lived in one of the most godless places on earth, Sweden, and found it a hundred times better than living in the States.
By contrast, places that base their rule of law heavily on religion end up being oppressive hell-holes. Case in point: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Uganda.

Japan. Technological centre of the world. Culturally rich. Origin of many of the great martial arts (from Sumo to Judo to Ninpo/Ninjutsu). Creates animation which is superior to that of the US. One of the richest countries in the world.
It's mainly Shinto/Zen Buddhist.
Western and Northern Europe have some of the highest standards of living and lowest rates of theism.
America's wealth and influence has largely come from is enormous, globe spanning corporations. McDonalds and Walmart's business practices are about as far from Christlike as possible. And then theirs the giant glaring contradiction of a 'Christian Nation' having the largest military to ever exist...
Yup, like that backwater place United States of America.
(Although, the founding fathers didn't really DENY Christ. They just thought that religion was not a state issue, but a personal one.)
We norse people were feared in many parts of Europe, we went to America long before Columbus or Amerigo, and we worshipped Odin and Thor.
Then we became Christianized and disapeared into oblivion.
@Doubting Thomas: Yeah, attorney general Troy King gets his panties in a wad about selling sex toys--evidently he wants them all for his big closeted self. However, much to his dismay, they can still be sold; he only succeeded in requiring a silly disclaimer on them that more or less says they're not really intended to be used as sex toys.
And yet there have been religious theocracies and they've ALL been hell holes of everything wrong with humanity (the f'n southern U.S.A. at the moment) not everyone's an asshole but C'mon Texas! put a documented retard in next time and you'll have an excuse, get lazy on the paperwork and you end up like like Alaskans)
Few states seek to "deny Christ", not even the Scandinavian ones. They're just more secular than most.
Countries that emphazise God do exist, and they can be very shitty to live in.
Because places like Sweden, Norway, Finland, Australia, Germany, Canada and New Zealand are the worst places to be right now.
I mean the state of Western Australia has been rated as the least likely place in the western world to ever fall victim to terrorist attacks.
Norway has the world's highest living standard by Human Development Index.
New Zealand is the extreme sports capital of the world with a beautiful environment (srsly anything that's tall you can bungee jump off there).
Japan is the technological capital of the world.
Sure godless countries like the USSR, India and China aren't or weren't great places to be in, but that's generally because the big mean ol' capitalist nations like Britain and the USA refused to play ball with them.
In general the higher the living standard of the population the lower the belief in the supernatural and that's just the facts.
@Orion...
As an Indian, I have to point out India is secular, but far from "godless" - In fact, it has a pretty high percentage of theism as far as it goes, with representatives of literally every religion in the world by now. Which, IMO, bears out the statistic and religiousness is inversely proportionate to living standards.
Yeha its pretty horrible to live in Norway..... If you are a fundie fuck tard!!!, atheists everywhere, healtcare and tons of oil money, and being voted as the country with the highest standard of living each year truly hell

Finland is full of fundies/christians/whatever actually, the good thing is most of then still got commonsence even tho they are believers, most are out with the live and let live attitude.
As a Atheist here I aint getting shit from em, ofc now and then some jehovaswithness and other dudes comes by and hands out some flyers and talk about god but Ill just smile and chat with em for a while, Im cool with em and those flyers come in handy when putting Sauna on :P
Northern Europe has turned out to be the moste economically stable, the happiest people, the most freedoms and the most healthiest people...
..they also have the highest number of open atheists in their society.
Religious conviction is higher in Africa than in America, soo, lets see if this poster would rather live there, which y'know if his theory is correct then Africa should logically be a better place to live right?
Really? From what I have seen, countries that were invaded by self righteous Christians have suffered the greatest. The Americas were doing quite well before pox, disease and greed ridden Christians showed up.
Well, that's funny, because according to the press that's what Britain's doing, and here the standard of life is (at least at this minute, providing Cameron remembers he's Conservative and not New Labour) markedly better.
Norway, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, scandinavia in general, are all consistently rated some of the most developed places on Earth, and they're all a lot less Christian then good 'ol 'Murica. Not hating on Xians, just responding to a statement.
Confused?
