Many women die from domestic violence every year, but what the media does not tell you is this is mostly because women instigate violence verbally and physically. Women & the courts will have you believe that men just wake up one morning and decide to beat the crap out of their wife or girlfriend for no reason at all out of the blue as if men are just born psychotic, when ironically women are the ones who are naturally emotionally unstable from birth.

Men aren't supposed to hit women, in fact the common code of conduct which most decent people would come to on their own, is that you don't get violent with anyone who is not as strong (Physically) as you. It's called 'the fair fight'.

Translation. I don't beat the crap out of women who annoy me, even if they deserve a good slapping. I'm just not that guy, nor do I ever want to be that guy.

Also, as stated, she might be into martial arts in a big way and break both your arms. Try explaining that one to your pastor.

Two (advanced) Krav Maga students going at it full bore is a fair fight, a 250lb man knocking the stuffing out of his 110lb girlfriend because she won't agree with him is not.

Of course, people should practice self-control, but when psycho drunk bitches who don't know the meaning of self control decide to unexpectedly show their true colors, I'm not going to stand there and let myself be physically assaulted.

I would never hit a woman (or anyone for that matter) under ordinary circumstances, but self-defense is a basic human right, and some women can be legitimately dangerous.

To assume that all women are automatically dainty and weaker than men - or in other words harmless - is sexist and laughable anyway.

I'm in a happy relationship now, but my first one (which yeah I started the divorce proceedings). Lets see why did I get hit.

* Because his boss screwed him over
* Because his mother told him I needed to be smartened up
* Because I couldn't feed him steak on the budget he gave me
* Because the cat went into heat
* Because the neighbour phoned the cops
* Because I caught him cheating
* Because I freaked out when he killed my pets (it happened more than once)
* Because he was a grown man that still had temper tantrums
* Because he was a good Christian and it was his right to "correct" me
...... ah fuck it I could go on. But why bother. Your just like him. In fact you could very well be him.

This is the biggest crock of shit I've ever read. You can't generalize the reasons for domestic abuse, there are different circumstances for everyone who experiences it, and thinking like this only opens up another loophole for abusers to exploit. It seems to me reality2008 thinks a good justification for violence is to point the finger like a child and say "s/he started it, bla bla bla". That is the same as saying "I hit you because I love you."

Women are emotionally unstable from birth? Citation desperately needed there! If I was less of a cynic, I would assume you are just pulling facts out your colon. However, I am not a lesser cynic, and I think you are comparing women to babies and pulling facts out of your ass. However, this kind of thinking is childish (I want, you give or else) so maybe it is abusers who should be in the immature category, NOT the victim. Childish as it is, it is also disturbing because it is the prelevent drive behind the thought processes of regular fstdt lolcows like bobx and his ilk. There it has spawned into an evil hatred of everything they don't agree with, and blinds them so much that the only way they can solve a problem is to raise a fist to it. (Happy Wife, I am glad you got out of that situation).

It doesn't matter whether you are male or female, hitting a spouse/partner is never going to be right.

My parents argue all the time, and there have been plenty of times where my mother has really ticked my dad off, but he has never raised a hand to her. Shouted at her, yes, but no hitting. As bad as his temper can be, he has never hit her. And she has never hit him either. It's called self-control. You can argue without resorting to violence. Otherwise, no one could have a fair debate and society as we know it would be ruined.

If women are the ones who are emotionally unstable, then why are their spouses the ones who snap and hurt them? Sounds to me like their husbands are the ones who are emotionally unstable, who are just plain nuts. And so are you, to think that domestic abuse victims are asking for it.

Get a life, you worthless scumbag. I hope you get trampled by a mob of abuse survivors.

Wow. You shock and disgust me with your ignorance. As a former victim of domestic abuse, I shudder to think about the torment and beatings I had to endure at the hands of a man who thought very much like yourself, reality2008.

For years, he made me believe I was the reason he beat the hell out of me. I believed that for a long, long time.

I have some facts for you, reality2008. Some men DO wake up one morning and decide to beat the crap out of their significant others. Most men aren't born psychotic...but abusive men CAN be. Women in abusive relationships are NOT to blame. Women in abusive relationships can be emotionally unstable, merely because they live in constant fear--but they are NOT "naturally" unstable from birth. Get your facts right.

Shame on me indeed. Those statistics may have been a bit misleading.

They were taken from Metropolitan Police figures for London in 2002. It's no great stretch of the imagination to believe that 2007 and 2008 might have similar ratios to 2002. We might even be able to extrapolate that the whole of Britain might have a similar ratio to London. But suggesting that the whole world might have a similar ratio to London was pushing it a bit, and I apologise.

I do imagine that the US, for instance, would have domestic violence being more instigated by males and less instigated by females. I don't have those statistics, but I could guess. However, this is not just because females are less likely to instigate domestic violence in the US than in the UK, but also because males are less likely to report being hit by a woman, so whatever difference there may be should be treated cautiously.

And yet, male and female alike, we're ALL emotionally unstable at birth. And in our teenage years.

Much as I'd like to deny it, I acknowledge there are co-dependant relationships, in which weird relationship mental games take place. A cycle of 'provoke, punish, repent and provoke' occurs, sometimes fulfilling emotional needs of both parties. These should NOT be confused with normal relationships. Nor should anyone assume that this is what's taking place in every abusive relationship.
The mere fact that domestic violence is a rare, despicable and despised occurrance, should be enough to refute your fantasy that domestic violence arises because 'women are naturally unstable.'
