In my view to accept evolution makes one an atheist. That might not be agreed by those Christians who think they can square it, but in my view it is to question Gods word.

What Papabear said. Evolution =/= Athiesm, though the majority of athiests are intelligent enough to understand and accept the theory.
And personally, if it wasn't for idiots like you driving me away with your literal interpretations of the Bible, I'd probably still be one of those Christians "who think they can square it." So, y'know, you're not only wrong, you're shooting yourself in the foot.
Bonehead. What about all the people of other religions(Buhddism(sp?), Shinto, Neopagan, et al.) who accept evolution? I wouldn't call THEM atheists. It's just 90% of Xtians have sticks up the arse.
In my view to accept evolution makes one an atheist.
Well we can dream, can't we... If that was true, there would probably be a lot more rational, irreligious people.

Wait.. are you perhaps suggesting everyone, who doesn't exactly agree with your form of Christianity would be an atheist? No muslims, no other forms of Christianity, probably no need for FSTDT and vast majority of world population being atheists?
Nah! Doesn't work for me. I just cannot suspend my disbelief that far.. but otherwise it's a nifty fantasy.
Well, let´s see it this way. If you think that snakes don´t speak, according to your views, you´re questioning God´s word, same if you ask who was Caine´s wife. So, maybe you should reconsider what the word of God is.
Questioning God's word is now the definition of atheism?
Job found it quite possible to question God's word to His face, or so the Bible says. I wonder what Julian thinks of that.
It goes against some of the ramblings of the Bible which the average Christian does not believe to be the uneditted word of a higher being. However, even if one didn't believe in the Bible at all, that does not make them an atheist. If you weren't so arrogant/stupid you might've realized there were a lot of other religions out there and people even have a belief in a higher power apart from organized religion. Believe it or not, but their faith doesn't necessarily fail if you believe organisms have evolved.
Well, I'm a Christian and I question God's Word all the time -- in fact, I make a point of questioning God's Word, which means analyzing it all the way down to the cultural, political, religious, social and linguistic roots of the text, and the text within the context of the book.
In fact, I would hope anybody who called themselves a Christian -- and meant it -- would question God's Word. A LOT.
Well, your view is patently wrong. Atheisim has nothing to do with evolution. The ToE has nothing to do with atheism.
The only criterion which defines an atheist is that an atheist does not believe in any god. A brief encounter with a good dictionary might clear this up for you.
Evolution is not atheism in of itself, but you have to agree when I say that it gives atheists a reason for their non belief.
Alright, if I was atheist, I would agree with myself here... Usually when I try to make statements that I want atheists to agree with, they give out all sorts of ad hominem atacks, please, I don't want that. I just want an intellectual discussion.
RichardT : I think ya make a valid point, but I submit that evolution itself is not a reason for one to become an athiest. Instead, I believe that the people who claim there to be irreconcilable differences between the Bible's account of the origin of life, and the theories put forward by Darwin and later compounded on, are a reason. No, it really wouldn't be that hard to reconcile the two; all it takes is believing the Bible to not be literal, and it fits in nicely and without too much thought. Thus, fundamentalist opposition to the Theory of Evolution, not the ToE itself, is a reason for athiesm.
Yeah, I felt like being entirely too wordy and verbose there. Sorry.

No I don't have to agree, because you are wrong.
My reasons for (i don't like 'non-belief' as it infers that believing in biblegod is 'right' and all others are wrong) thinking those who believe are deluded have little to do with evolution. Even without the ToE I would find it impossible to reconcile this x-tianity myth in my life.
Just so long as that's your view and you understand that rational people, including theists, don't agree with a word of it, ok.
Evolution is not atheism in of itself, but you have to agree when I say that it gives atheists a reason for their non belief.
No, I don't have to agree. And I don't agree. The lack of evidence for any religion is sufficient reason for my non-belief.
Confused?
