In 2005, a cover story in the reputable journal Science evolution proclaimed evolution as the “breakthrough of the year.”
Would you be thrilled to discover that scientists at a leading magazine proclaimed 2005 as the year of a phenomenal “breakthrough,” one that will help people understand that:
everything is meaningless “and you’d better live with it.”
How’s that for a message of hope and meaningful existence? But that is the ultimate consequence of believing in atheistic evolution.

You have to have a god in order for your life to have meaning? Evolution doesn’t mean life is meaningless. It means that life exists on its own without the help or existence of a deity. You can take whatever meaning you want out of it. I don’t believe life was created by a deity. But I do believe my life has meaning because I make it have meaning. I devote my time to things that matter and have meaning to me.
My pet rat passed away a few days ago. I tried my best to make his life as good as it could be, and to let him know he is loved. While my life or his life may not “mean” a whole lot in the great scheme of things, we both meant a lot to each other. And that’s really all we can ask for in this world. Regardless of fame, fortune, celebrity, existence of deities, whatever, I think the greatest meaning we can get is in how we affect the lives of others.

For the quadrillionth time, Ham, that is NIHILISM you're talking about. That has NOTHING to do with evolution OR atheism.
And quite frankly, as an Existentialist, yes, I agree that there is no grand design to anything. Maybe there is a supreme deity or maybe there isn’t. But the lack of a predetermined goal to life is a GOOD thing, because that means we can CHOOSE what we want to be. We can give our own lives meaning.

You do realize that atheists can believe in an afterlife, right? And that Christians can believe in evolution as well, right? Besides, what’s so terrible about a lack of afterlives anyway? It just means the life we DO have is that much more precious and important.

Very well said. That pretty much sums up my philosophies (a combination of Existentialism and Ethical Hedonism) as well. Our lives have no predetermined grand destiny. But that means we can give our own lives and those of our fellow beings whatever meaning we want to give them. And, to me at least, the most meaningful thing one can do is to be as happy with life as possible and to spread as much happiness as possible.
Also, my condolences. I know what it’s like to lose a beloved pet.

I don't look to science to give my existence meaning. Science is for explaining reality, which it does very well. You should try it.

Molecules to man, another straw man? If you educated yourself, you'd at least be able to formulate relevant questions. But that does not matter to you, as long as they are really concern trolling with reality-denial statements. Meaningless life? Attempting to improve the human condition is not worthless. Fatalism, believing that it's not worth it because people would supposedly live in a better hypothetical life after this one, does not help to improve that condition. Control ideology for a few elites fighting for their own power at the expense of everyone else is not the solution. Lastly, you really claim that when a dead body is buried, it doesn't rot?
No, life without your lies is not meaningless. And people who don't get trapped into them may actually have a much more meaninful life.

As for the meaning of life, his religious faith didn’t prevent theologian Søren Kierkegaard from pioneering Existentialism.
