Its called science and logic.
I find that a poor excuse. Science and logic are fallible, just like every other thing we study. Look at some of the crazy stuff scientists in the past believed in. Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right? It was excepted science centuries ago, just like evolution is excepted science now.
We laugh at past generations for their faults and mistakes, and soon future generations will laugh at us. Science =/= evolution.

It's called progress. When new evidence and ideas come in, we can create better theories. More accurate than taking stabs in the dark with ancient religions.
>Science =/= evolution
How the hell does that follow after everything else?
Okay, 1: learn the difference between accept and except. 2: it was science that corrected those now ridiculous presumptions. You see, because it's peer reviewed, science can change and adapt in light of new evidence to better explain the natural world. It works because it's fallible. scientists aren't afraid to be wrong, in fact the whole process would fall apart if they were always right :)
What convinced ignorant people that the Earth was the center of the universe, even when careful observers had doubts? Religion: "It is written!" What eventually demonstrated that the universe was not geocentric, despite terrible threats from the devout? Science.
"Look at some of the crazy stuff scientists in the past believed in. Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right? It was excepted science centuries ago"
Uh...pretty sure the whole Earth as the center of the universe is in the bible...still and that Galileo was persecuted for claiming otherwise.
"Scientists in the past" didn't know as much as we do and didn't have the instruments that we do. It's not at all surprising that they believed things we now find silly. That reflects more on us than them anyway for not taking their knowledge and tools into account.
And yes, evolution is accepted science, because evolution is a fact, it is observable. What could change in the future is our explanation of how evolution works. That's what evolutionary theory is about. So no, science =/= evolution, but evolution = science.
Earth being in the center of the universe was also supported by religion. It was accepted as fact not because of observations or tests, but because the Bible said so. Evolution, on the other hand, HAS been subjected to observations and tests.

Damn right, one day they'll look back on the times when the Abrahamic religions ruled the world and wonder how so many people could have been so gullible for so long...
But evolution = science! Nyah Nyah we have the fossils we win. I won't even touch the rest of the nonsense in this post, oh fuck I will, even though I'm sure someone else has already said it and done so more eloquently. It was your religious leaders (Christians, that is) that continued to insist that the Earth was the center of the solar system, not the other way around idiot. Thank you. :)
Back then people would believe all sorts of stupid shit without any evidence. As it stands, evolution is the best explanation we have for the diversity of life on our planet according to the evidence available to us.
And the word is "accepted", moron.
"Science and logic are fallible, just like every other thing we study."
That explains all those bible study groups, then.
The fact that science is self-correcting and allows for new hypothosies to be created, and old theories to be replaced with new ones is the reason why the scientific method is the best way to understand the world.
Science and logic are fallible, just like every other thing we study.
So if one where to study, say, the bible, would that mean the bible is now fallible?
"Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right? "
It was to fundies. In fact it was so logical they burned at the stake any scientist who denied it.
"We laugh at past generations for their faults and mistakes"
No we laugh at current fundies for their failures and mistakes. (see WWW.FSTDT.NET)
Isn't it the Bible saying the sun revolves around the Earth?
Centuries ago Galilei was forced to repent to The Church on the whole "Earth circles the sun" thing.
We now laugh at all the Church-based "knowledge" from the Dark Ages.
Side note: I just saw an American animated picture, talking about the 1903 as "historical". That is fairly recent history, as a matter of fact.
1066, THAT is historical. What was "the thing" that year?
Yup. The battle of Hastings. Everyone knows about this, right? Right?
2500 years ago most learned men knew the world was round, there weren't that many learned men back then. The rest of the world couldn't care less, even moderns mans life does not need or depend on knowing this, not till we first sailed the seas was it needed information.
That we went around the Sun was known to few people, does it effect your everyday life or job to know this?
Who determined the truth:Science
Who resisted that truth: Christianity (and other religions)
Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right?
And on what grounds did we believe that, hmmm? As I recall, it was the same source that taught us that the world was flat. Where did we get such silly ideas...?
You mean as logical as pi being 3 or insects having 4 legs?
Oh wait, those are biblical! And Earth being the center of the universe...opposed by the church, no?
Earth being in the center of the universe was perfectly logical, right?
No, you moron. Earth is flat, has corners and is covered by Firmament. THAT's infalliable and logical.
Ever watch a cop show ? First there is a murder, the police have a suspect, new evidence exonerates that suspect and points to another until finally, a big shootout in an abandoned warehouse.
That's how it works. There is a thing, science explains it, new evidence appears, the scientific explanation changes to accommodate the new evidence and finally, Ken Ham is slaughtered in a University debate.
You're going to need a metric fuckton of new evidence to overthrow Evolution. Good luck with that.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
