The Theory of Evolution is a theory in only the same respect that it is a theory that the Earth orbits the Sun. One doesn't "believe" in evolution like one believes in god, one either studies and understands evolution or one dismisses it out of hand as being incompatible with wishful thinking.
As is mentioned in numerous posts above ToE does not really address the origin of life, it address the directions life took after its origins. However, just because ToE does not address origins (and no scientist has stepped forward with compelling evidence showing how life started) does not make the origin of life question a non-scientific one.
God of the Gaps. If we don't fully understand something, don't worry about it, don't try and figure it out...god did it.
I believe (and this is belief based on common sense not evidence) that, as someone mentioned above, life started on this planet through natural phenomenon which generated self replicating molecules. Simple as that, and once started the evolutionary arms race was off.
Also, positing god obviously does not answer the question. All positing god does is cause an infinite regress...assume god created life...who created god? If simple forms of life could not just come into being then it would be silly to assume that a highly complex god could.
Also, KingCrusader is an absolute moron, I just wanted to be clear on that.
