Pat Robertson has come up with a new theory as to why liberals support abortion rights — it’s because they want to put lesbians and straight women on “a level playing field.”
On a recent episode of The 700 Club, discussing the battle over federal funding for Planned Parenthood, Robertson says President Obama supports the organization because of what the antigay minister calls the Left’s “culture of death.” Then Robertson says to cohost Terry Meeuwsen, “If a woman is a lesbian, what advantage does she have over a married woman? Or what deficiency does she have?”
Meeuwsen replies, “Well, she can’t have children” — ignoring the fact that lesbians can and do have children. Robertson says, “That’s exactly right. And so if these married women don’t have children, if they abort their babies, then that kind of puts them on a level playing field.”

"Pat Robertson has come up with a new theory as to why liberals support abortion rights.."
Oh, good. Because surely the world can't get by without more vapid statements from yet another delusional twit.
OK then, allow gays & lesbians to adopt children and maybe they wouldn't support abortion so much.
Ever think that women who get abortions are doing it of their own free will? I hardly think that roving bands of lesbians are kicking in doors, dragging pregnant married women out into the street and performing abortions on them. Why is it that anti-abortion fundies never can understand that nobody in this country is being forced to have abortions?

^Now how many are heterosexual? How do you know some of them aren't at least Bi? And how many of them are full-on devotees of Sappho? You tell me, Pat.
The whole 'cheerleaders in the post-game showers' thing can't purely be a porn-flick cliche, amirite?!
Oh, and as for the 'abortion' thing, Pat...:

Sakura Kinomoto atop Optimus Prime's shoulder has more relevance to the issue. Ever hear of Elton John and David Furnish, Pat?

I love the smell of destroyed arguments in the morning. Smells like... victory.
Nice try, except that women of today don't share your archaic view of the "playing field", whereupon a female's only true value is in her capacity for baby-manufacturing.
And one does not abort "babies". One aborts a fetus.
“If a woman is a lesbian, what advantage does she have over a married woman?
None.
Or what deficiency does she have?”
The same none.
TM: “Well, she can’t have children.” PR: “That’s exactly right.
Seems Pat and Terry forgot all about IVF technology. They also forgot about surrogate mothers and adoption.
“And so if these married women don’t have children, if they abort their babies, then that kind of puts them on a level playing field.”
So is ol' Pat implying that childless hetero couples (because lesbians cannot marry everywhere in the USA...yet) as "bad" as lesbians?! Seems like it to me.

Y'know, that sounds a lot like something from a John Waters movie.....
Lesbians, like all fertile women, can and do have children.
Pat Robertson, like all brain-dead fundies, can and does say stupid things.
Ya know, ol' Pat can't squeeze out babies either. Why is he trying to emulate lesbians?*
*I mean, of course, women unaided by IVF or other means.
"Uh, now, now, stay with me on this one, folks. Uh, Sally Struthers has a Tiberian junker [pictured in a window], which is uh the favorite ship of the Hutts, and she has trapped oureh, our our new CBC ship in a uh [struggling] poe-sitronic tractor beam. [a stage hand holds up a cue card]
Uh, so we're gonna need an ionic tractor disruptor. Now now, not a regular ionic di- tractor disruptor, but a negative ionic tractor disruptor to uh, help spread the Word of Jesus. [to Susan, softly] I don't have a fucking idea up here." - South Park, Season 3, Ep. 311
What the hell are you talking about, Pat? And of course, this assumes that there are only two options: carrying a baby to term or aborting a fetus. You leave out the third option, birth control, which - if used properly and consistently - prevents a pregnancy from happening in the first place. Lots of married women don't abort, because they use birth control. And the only reason it seems as though lesbians can't conceive babies is because they're in relationships with other women, where there is a distinct lack of sperm. It's not because their ovaries don't produce viable eggs.
About 3 percent of Planned Parenthood's work is related to abortions. How come a Swede knows that, and Mr Robertson doesn't? Oh, yeah, research is VILE!!!
Lesbians are not infertile, stupid. If they are inseminate with donated sperm they have just as much chance of becoming mother as any heterosexual woman does, and apparently a greater chance than I'll ever have. I haven't used any contraceptive methods for more than 12 years...
"Liberals" support choice, not abortions, idiot!!! I am very far from a Liberal; in my country they are sometimes to the right of the Conservatives. I am a true Leftie; a Socialist, and I support choice, not abortions per se. I would have LOVED to have a child when I was in my twenties and thirties. I never managed to keep a fetus past the 11th week, though. Now I feel I'm too old to be able to take care of a kid; I will be sixty at her/his 18th birthday. See, I think about the child-to-be first, and then about me.
However, if I, miraculously, became pregnant, I don't think I'd be able to abort it. Shows how much I think about that child-to-be, right?
I still support other women's right to choose for themselves though.
And I thought my understanding of the English language was pretty good, being Swedish... There are times I have to read the comments in order to understand what the the heck the quote is about - this is one of those times!
So, thank you, all commenters! Oh, and death to Pat Roberson and his ilk!
1. Lesbians can and do have children, as the article states.
2. If married women are having abortions, it's by choice. Does Pat Robertson honestly think that women are being forced to abort? WTF, Pat.
3. Oh, yea... Bodily Domain. Look it up, Pat, and we'll watch your head explode.
Increased tolerance drives Pat Robertson nuts.
I almost feel bad for him. Almost...
I can't believe people are still ranting about Obama after only 2 years. So far he accomplished NOTHING that the right claims he's trying to do other than getting us out of Iraq.

"As despicable as this sentiment is - I hope Pat Robertson has a heart attack and dies."
As much as I agree with you, one should consider the immortal words of Eddie Valiant : "You need a heart before you can have an attack".
You know, something about this reminds me of that line by Jubal Early in Firefly :
“Man is stronger by far than woman, yet only woman can create a child. Does that seem right to you?”
Don’t know why I think of that. Guess it seems like something ol’ Pat here would agree with.
@Bine

Oh, it has nothing to do with your understanding of English. The thing is very nearly word salad. There is no logic inherent in anything this guy has said.
Robertson says, “That’s exactly right. And so if these married women don’t have children, if they abort their babies, then that kind of puts them on a level playing field.”
And that entails exactly what, Pat? What does this "level playing field entail"? Do you even know?
These people are gonna be so pissed someday when biologists figure out how two people of the same sex can have a baby without gametes from the opposite sex. That time is coming, and then you won't be able to say that lesbians need men for anything, even to reproduce (except you'll still try to say that, of course).
If a woman is a lesbian, what advantage does she have over a married woman?
Well, not having to live with a sexist prick like you, basically.
...I can have a baby any time I want, even though I am not partial to men. My uterus works just fine, kthx.
I don't /want/ a baby right now because I'm not financially or emotionally equipped for motherhood at this point in my life. There's a difference between can't, does not want to, and not quite dumb enough to try at this time.
WTF? Lesbians have children all the time. They can go to a fertility clinic and get a sperm donor.
Although far as the culture of death nonsense goes, I WOULD at this point not feel THAT bad against a 'culture of death for fundie liars'. It's not like we'd lose anything valuable. On the contrary! We'd be doing society a huge favour.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
