He is perfection. He is righteous. I don't know if He chose to be good or if he always has been, but being who he is has it's restrictions. He cannot lie. So, when he said he cannot be around evil, that means he can't. Not that he choses not to, but that he can't. He won't ever go back on his word, so when he said that, it became indefinite. Does this make any sense? If it isn't clear enough I will try to explain better. trust me though, the last thing I would ever say is that God is not omnipotent.

"He cannot lie. So, when he said he cannot be around evil, that means he can't."
2 Thessalonians 2
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
So, not only does their god "send them strong delusions" (i.e. lie) but then when the poor bastards believe the delusion he damns them for it. Perhaps the reason their god can't be around evil is because he doesn't want the competition?
"but being who he is has it's restrictions"
"He cannot lie"
"when he said he cannot be around evil, that means he can't"
"Not that he choses not to, but that he can't"
"trust me though, the last thing I would ever say is that God is not omnipotent"
Who can argue with that?
"He won't ever go back on his word, so when he said that, it became indefinite."
Definitions of indefinite on the Web:
1) vague or not clearly defined or stated; "must you be so indefinite?"; "amorphous blots of color having vague and indefinite edges"; "he would not answer so indefinite a proposal"
2) not decided or not known; "were indefinite about their plans"; "plans are indefinite"
*shrug* Other people already made all the other points I'd want to make here, and besides, the post speaks for itself.
God does not have the power to use an "impotent" form of communication". The word impotent means without potency.
God does not possess the power to be powerless therefore he is all powerfull.
There is no contradiction, although GOD being powerless to do something seems inconsistent with the general concept of the word omnipotent, this inconsistency becomes clearly consistent with the truth that to be All-powerful is to be "not powerless"
NonHomogenized,
I'm pretty sure you knew what was meant in the post. Pointing out errors are only valid if you intend to correct the error.
Talisman,
The truth is it is stating that since you love a lie you will be turned over to the power of what you love. If you want to make a quote with a comment following make sure you understand the text in which you are quoting from.
MessiahRefugee,
Having unlimited or absolute power or authority or being Omnipotent includes the ability to not be able to act in a powerless fashion nor fashion anything more powerful than the most powerful. So, no God cannot make a rock so large He cannot lift because it would be illogical.
Plyss,
"So, no God cannot make a rock so large He cannot lift because it would be illogical."
Can we interpret this as "God is bound by logic"?
No it is just the opposite, logic is bound by GOD.
Logic is the study of the principles of reason. Where there is no reason there is no logic. Hence, the presense of logic is the proof of reason.
If you were a god, wouldn't you tell everybody that you were the good guy and that you were omnipotent?
Anyway, god does lie. It's right there in chapter 1. He says "Don't eat the apple, because if you do you'll die."
Then the snake comes along and says, "No, you won't."
And lo, they don't.
Woe to you venomous asps, progeny of a brood of vipers. You, the accursed, preying on innocence. It is the perfect minion of Hell, that out of sheer wickedness, defiles the beauty of innocence; brining further suffering to himself and ruin to everyone they touch. This means death to the psychopath. He who robs innocence in this life will have his soul sodomized by demons, with the abject fear of total annihilation ever present, while in eternal flame; which burns, but does not kill; in Hell. I do not judge. God is the only Just Judge. Come to Jesus before you die, that you may settle with God before you get to court. If you have not settled before you get to court, He will hand you over to the torturer, and you will pay back every last penny out of your soul's hide.
WTF WTR????
<<<God does not have the power to use an "impotent" form of communication". The word impotent means without

WE ARE AWARE OF THE MEANING OF THE OWRD IMPOTENT. STOP OBSESSING ABOUT YOUR PENIS!
<<<God does not possess the power to be powerless therefore he is all powerfull.>>>
PLEASE GET A DICTIONARY. THE SECOND L IN POWERFUL IS REDUNDANT. I USED THIS ARGUMENT FOR EVERY OTHER THING IN THE UNIVERSE AND YOU DIDN'T LIKE THAT. PLEASE DESIST OR IT WILL CONTINUE.

THERE IS NO INCONSISTENCY APART FROM THE INCONSISTENCY!!!! NICE ONE! YOU TRULY HAVE MASTERED THE MENTAL GYNAMSTICS TO MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE REALITY.
NonHomogenized, Talisman, MessiahRefugee... THE REST OF US UNDERSTAND.

So all you christian proselytizers are going to hell? Good to know.*
*Except for the minor detail that it's all a bunch of bullshit.
so apparently god can't LIE, but he can EQUIVOCATE. Well, ok then. I suppose it's not evil if you're not technically lying, but it just looks like you are.
Phoenix: I never liked that question, and here's why. The consistent answer seems obvious to me: he can, and in so doing he makes himself no longer all-powerful, thus rendering him unable to lift the rock without violating omnipotence.
I have *no* idea why the religious don't use that to counter the argument instead of inanity's like "he can...and then he can lift it. Such is the mysterious nature of God".
<<< Phoenix: I never liked that question, and here's why. ... >>>
I'm not a big fan of that question either, because if you define omnipotence as "the ability to do anything that is logically possible" (in other words, not internally contradictory) the answer is a straightforward "No" without contradicting omnipotence.
ahh, Crosis, but that definition of Omnipotent castrates god and makes him subservient to Logic, elevating logic to the god of god, and thereby rendering him unneccessary even for believers.
If God is omnipotent can he be around evil?
If God can't around be evil, is he still omnipotent?
So, if you're saying that God chooses not to be around evil, are you saying that being evil is a choice?
Confused?
