(Article is about "hip" new approaches to the bible)
Once again people make a mockery of Christianity. None of the old religions - Islamic, Jewish, Hindu, etc - have ever changed their "good books" in any way, shape or form to "modernise". This is why Christianity will always be a joke and the other religions something serious and strong. The old faiths would never stand for anything like this to happen. It is sacrilege!

Changing your mind about what your religion says doesn't make your religion look very valid, but it does help making it compatible with modern society.
Most Christians are good and nice people much _because_ they haven't stuck with the "good book" in every way. And of course the same is true for a lot of people of the other faiths you mention.
It's almost always the traditionalist fundamentalists who are insufferable cunts.
Yea fine, ok, stick to the earth was created 6000 years ago adam and eve noah's ark geocentric solar system theories and continue to make yourself look foolish in all eyes except the most glazed over.
Good plan, dumbass.
"Once again people make a mockery of Christianity. None of the old religions - Islamic, Jewish, Hindu, etc - have ever changed their "good books" in any way, shape or form to "modernise"."
When was the last time you had a knock on your door, or were shouted at in the street, from someone trying to force their beliefs down your throat, by a Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Sikh, Zoroastrian, or any other follower of said old religions?
Once you find the answer to that question, you'll know why 'Christianity will always be a joke' (especially here at FSTDT), and fundies like you (as well as Jehovah's Witnesses etc) are demonised.
Er.. Hinduism's most famous book is it's newest. The Vedas are a full 2000 years older than yours and this is ignoring the prior texts which go into it.
The Gita is a 300 BC text. Hinduism has changed quite a bit over it's life time and IS STILL CHANGING with it's current fight against the caste system and for equality for women.
It is not mocked because it has changed or ATLEAST tried to change.
@Lucretious

Proving more and more that the babble is just a work of fiction, and a bad one at that, that deserves nothing but mockery, and most christians know it, they're just too afraid/too brainwashed/too lazy to admit it.
Ahh, those good religions: Islamic, Jewish, and Hindu. Right on. I think you, Sharon, need to look up the difference between a noun and an adjective.
1. The translation used for this new bible was "The Book", which has been around for nearly two decades.
2. The new "hip" slant given to the latest offering (which the BBC News article features) are the illustrations and lack of verse numbers. Basically, it's the same text as the "The Book" translation, with coffee-table-book pictures accompanying this text.
This doesn't really swing it with "Once again people make a mockery of Christianity."
"This is why Christianity will always be a joke"
Yeah, we know. And for the record...The OT hasn't been the same since it was translated from Old Aramaic. Every time it is re-written, it changes. Now you guys have the Good News Bible.
Giggle.
Judaism aside, Christianity should really look to be more like Hinduism and Islam: a pagan AND a fanatical religion. They're both hated by Christians, yet we should look to their unfailing closed-mindedness and constancy, to be the role-model for your failing beliefs. Sharon, you should be ashamed of yourself for not being more like them. Go sing five Hail Mary's and three Hello Dolly's.
Maybe animal sacrifice will make a comeback. I can dream, can't I?
The old faiths would never stand for anything like this to happen. It is sacrilege!
I take it you can read both Hebrew and Greek, then?
EDIT: ...AND Aramaic?
My copy of the Tanakh is a recent translation, reinterpreting a some of the words and verses along the way.
If we weren't constantly trying to gain new and relevant understanding of the book there wouldn't be a Talmud, nor would the Judaism manage to survive the destruction of the Second Temple and the diaspora. It would have been a sad little sect that died out in a few generations.
But then, we red sea pedestrians have always been encouraged to question God and His word, unlike the fundy Christians who demand blind faith and blind obedience.
/None of the old religions - Islamic, Jewish, Hindu, etc - have ever changed their "good books" in any way, shape or form to "modernise"./
Which is why Islam is in such sorry shape today. Do you really want to send Christianity back to the Middle Ages? During Western Europe's Dark Ages, Islamic lands flourished. Now the opposite has happened. Religions need reformation and adaptation in order for them to loosen their stranglehold on the minds of their followers.
Confused?
