In this busy shipping season, UPS will have at least one less customer to worry about: FRC. After 11 years as our official carrier, FRC is suspending its contract with UPS for openly discriminating against the Boy Scouts of America. FRC tried to resolve the matter behind the scenes, even contacting Chairman and CEO Scott Davis with a letter of protest -- to which UPS promptly replied. Unfortunately, the company only reiterated its position that until the BSA puts a greater priority on the political agenda of LGBT activists than the protection of Scouts, they are not entitled to the same equality UPS claims to endorse. Apparently, the company isn't interested in true diversity but in strong-arming anyone who disagrees with their extreme agenda -- including a century-old youth development program, whose only crime is instilling character into millions of American boys. As for their longstanding policy on homosexuality, the Boy Scouts are doing what every parent would want them to: putting children's safety first.

Yeah. Right. "UPS Chairman and CEO Scott Davis wrote a letter that "only reiterated its position that until the BSA puts a greater priority on the political agenda of LGBT activists than the protection of Scouts ..." I'm sure that's exactly what his letter said, verbatim. NOT.
Bearing false witness is still one of the Big 10. See you in Hell, liar.

Oh drat.
I'm sure UPS will be filing for bankruptcy any day now.
"As for their longstanding policy on homosexuality, the Boy Scouts are doing what every parent would want them to: putting children's safety first."
How's that again?
> FRC is suspending its contract with UPS for openly discriminating against the Boy Scouts of America.
Why the inconsistent use of terminology? You should use it consistently. It's either:
"FRC is suspending its contract with UPS for suspending its contract with the Boy Scouts of America."
Or:
"FRC is openly discriminating against UPS for openly discriminating against the Boy Scouts of America."
You can't have it both ways, unless you have an agenda or something!
@ fishtank
Really? I much prefer having an immoral individual loony and a moral billion-dollar corporation to having the reverse. It strikes me that, if there have to be a certain number of immature pricks in the universe, we'd all be better off if they weren't in positions of power.
Really, every parent would want them to exclude all GLBT people? Even the gay parents, huh? The boy scouts don't even want minors who identify as gay in their ranks, just like they don't want atheist scouts. Yeah, certainly all parents would like for their kids to be excluded simply because they're not straight. And they'd also want children to identify gay people as "dangerous."
The FRC can go eat its own ass, seriously.
In this busy shipping season, UPS will have a very busy time, with or without the FRC as customer.
Accepting people for who they are, and refraining from discrimination of minorities is an extreme agenda to you, Tony?
What does LGBT equal rights have to do with children's safety? Most child molesters are straight males, or have no adult sexuality at all.
I can't wait until a few years in the future when the FRC is a marginalized, totally impotent hate group, like the KKK is today.
If I were CEO of UPS, I'd probably respond to the effect of:
Dear Mr. Perkins,
In the spirit of the holidays, I have attached a sprig of mistletoe to the back of my belt so you can kiss my ass.
Sincerely,
Thomas Doubter
CEO, UPS
You going to stop using computers with Intel processors as well? I suspect UPS just doesn't give a shit.
Oh yeah, you can't use any drugs produced by Merck either.
@farpadokly - LOL! This is nothing. Try reading the average engineering paper.
The FRC is known for it's boycotts open discrimination of companies who act in ways that the FRC doesn't like...
Funny how it's the worst thing in the world when it's a group the FRC likes that's on the receiving end...
Apparently, the company isn't interested in true diversity but in strong-arming anyone who disagrees with their extreme agenda
Not like you and the FRC, in your infinite compassion, right?
The boyscouts is proud of its three Gs. Which is basically discrimination. They were founded to reinforce conservative and religious world view.
Girl scouts on the other hand were founded by a femenist and allow lesbians and trans scouts and leaders.
World of difference.
Well Tony, do the math; who is UPS going to want to do business with? Will it be with most people, who don't give a flying fuck about what goes on in someone else's bedroom, or will it be those minority of exclusivist assholes, such as the BSA, and their fanboys who can't seem to mind their own business and spout their bigotry to anyone within earshot?
You tell me.
"In this busy shipping season, UPS will have at least one less customer to worry about: FRC."
Oh.
Yippee! Good riddance to bad bigot customers!
"Apparently, the company isn't interested in true diversity but in strong-arming anyone who disagrees with their extreme agenda"
Like sending irony readings off the charts don't you?
As for their longstanding policy on homosexuality, the Boy Scouts are doing what every parent would want them to: putting children's safety first.
If they truly did that they'd be more worried about making sure pedophiles don't join the ranks, not homosexuals.
> As for their longstanding policy on homosexuality, the Boy Scouts are doing what every parent would want them to: putting children's safety first.
1. What does keeping children away from homosexuals do for their safety? (And what about gay kids?)
2. If they really care about children's safety, why do they cover up for pedophiles?
Well, I don't think the UPS is going to even shed a single tear about you ending your contract. They have plenty more customers who are more sane than you.
Good. The USPS needs the income, as they struggle against the ridiculous pension demands Congress put on them. And they hire gays, unless I'm very much mistaken about the lady who usually waits on me.
Good on ya, UPS!
"Apparently, the company isn't interested in true diversity but in strong-arming anyone who disagrees with their extreme agenda"
Sadly, I've heard a lot of atheists saying something similar over the last few months to other atheists, and my rebuttal is pretty much the same here. You can't have diversity and welcome bigots at the same time. It's impossible, because the bigots chase everyone away who isn't just like them.
Putting the kids safety first? Oh good, so they're making sure that the kids don't harm any gay scouts and realize that they're fellow human beings deserving of compassion just like anyone else? And that they realize that by teaching such hatred they only make it harder for their children to function in an increasingly open minded world?
You don't?
"Apparently, the company isn't interested in true diversity . . ."
True diversity being excluding evveryone I don't like.
"In this busy shipping season, UPS will have at least one less customer to worry about: FRC"
"FRC is suspending its contract with UPS for openly discriminating against the Boy Scouts of America"
For the FRC's discrimination against LGBT people. Your point?
So FRC won't be dealing with UPS? Meh. The FRC aren't exactly the image-enhancing 2012 London Olympics (I've seen vans here - and pics of such in the US - with the LOCOG logo, even post -Olympics), as they were one of the main sponsors & supply/logistics specialists for that event.
Unfortunately, the company only reiterated its position that until the BSA puts a greater priority on the political agenda of LGBT activists than the protection of Scouts
Except that LGBT people aren't a threat to scouts, and they've covered extensively for people who are threats to the scouts because they're upstanding Heterosexual Christians.
May I tell you something. If a friend of yours, for some reason, would ask you to terminate your friendship with another person, for no good reason rather than they feel oppressed by their very existence, what would you do?. That's what UPS had to do and took the solution that everybody did. And think that many UPS employees maybe be gay. So?
until the BSA puts a greater priority on the political agenda of LGBT activists than the protection of Scouts
Since when is it more expensive and time consuming to screen a homosexual than a heterosexual.
Besides when did the scout motto become: Be prepared; unless you meet a gay, then run for your life.
Confused?
