I know its not realy the point this post is making, but there is no way you had 6 million ancestors alive during the forties that were around to be murdered. People who shared a common acestral history yes, ancestors no. Also I thought Hitler was Christian, but with influences from eugenics and the occult.
You know, he does have a point. Atheists have such a long history of disliking Jews. I mean, they killed our lord and...oh, wait.
It just astounds me how, instead of acknowledging that the Nazis were evil in spite of their religious beliefs, these people have to rewrite history and think of them as atheists; because in their minds, people who have Christian beliefs cannot be evil, but evil people deny God, and the Nazis were clearly evil -- ergo, the Nazis were atheists. I've seen this pattern applied repeatedly; atrocities committed in the name of Christianity, or parallel to it, are thus always either rationalized or (mis)attributed to some other group.
Hitler himself was an Ethnic Jew by his mother's side.
Actually, since I'm Norwegian/Scottish mainly some of my forefathers were doing the swordpoint rule at times. Most Europeans can claim a conquerer period.

Actually, in the 20's and 30's there were many American pastors and religious proponents who advocated eugenics. Biblical law is very insistent on keeping all things in their "proper place" (which is why it forbids planting more than one crop in a field or wearing blended fabrics). As such, it was not hard for people who liked the idea of keeping certain bloodlines pure (and inbred) to find biblical support. Even the Catholic Church had advocates of eugenics, though not to the point of advocating birth control or abortion to prevent births they considered undesirable.
Of course, all of that stopped when the Nazis became the enemy (note that this had not always the case in this country).

A few of them were -- very quietly, in private. Most of them, though, were proudly Christian -- and the Nazi state demanded adherence to Christian doctrines, whether Catholic or Protestant.
Yes, well, I'm grateful that it was my ancestors and not me personally who was converted at swordpoint. It must be a very convincing faith that cannot sell itself on its merits and must instead be rammed home with weapons - but that's a different story.

I'm amazed that I'm almost forty and never heard about this ethnic cleansing committed by atheists. Who were they? Whom did they kill?

Plus; aren't ancestors people way into the past, like hundreds of years ago. Not a mere sixty years ago. There are still people alive today who remember the concentration camps.

Christians died in the camps too. If you were unacceptable to the Nazis, telling them you were Christian wouldn't get you off the hook, and I don't know why you seem to think it would.

Just a few small corrections on the whole "Hitler was a christian" thing: While he was a catholic (and not jewish on any side by the way, that theory has been debunked for years now, though Hitler himself had nightmares thinking that it might be true) he was also a fascist believing in a strict "fuhrer cult". He knew though that to manipulate the predominantly christian German people he couldn't just say that he was the second coming of christ and that he wanted to replace ordinary christianity with a religion centered around himself, which is where all the propaganda for christians from the Nazis stems from. It was designed to lull the church and the public into a false sense of religious security. Sooner or later Hitler would have tried to replace any religion with his own. He was definitely no atheist though.
