[About an Illinois library putting a link to Planned Parenthood on their library computers.]
Kerry Knot:
This is horrible stuff...It promotes birth control, sexual activity (and) makes a joke of abstinence. It mocks parents and makes us out to be idiots.
LeAnna Benn:
When I read about the case, I was not surprised because the American Library Association has teamed up with Planned Parenthood on a regular basis to promote 'comprehensive' sex education....The premise is that everyone is sexually active and needs to have access to services, regardless of what their values are, regardless of what their parents believe.

There are no condoms-only programs or spermicide-only programs, dumdums. The only exclusive programs are the concervative-pushed abstinence-only ones, which don't work worth a damn.
The premise is that people have different needs and abstiecne doesn't work for everyone. There is nothing preventing YOUR abstinence from sexual activity. So shut up and get out of the way of others who need a different approach.
Love the scare quotes around comprehensive...
"The premise is that everyone is sexually active and needs to have access to services, regardless of what their values are, regardless of what their parents believe."
That's a damn fine premise!
You can abstain. No one is stopping you. You can teach your children to abstain. They may or may not listen to you.
As for me and mine, education and protection are the most effective plan.
The pill kept me child free in the years I used it, and got it from Planned Parenthood. Thus, no abortion for fundies to take issue with, no child raised on welfare, no drastic changes in my life causing me to be resentful.
I am a firm supporter of libraries and of the use of birth control pills. Both have contributed to making my life what it is today, and I wouldn't change my life for anything in the world.
LeAnna, that's exactly right. Regardless of what your parents values are, a child shouldn't be used as a punishment for "unacceptable sexuality," a child ought to be something a person chooses for themself when they are ready to become a parent.
I don't understand why fundies are so afraid of sex. It's good and it's fun, and in the end, it really is just sex.
In my opinion, it's a good idea to give teenagers options, because no matter how many times you tell them not to, they may end up having sex, and it would be far better for everyone involved if they were to use a condom and be on birth control.

Well, y'are idiots. You still prefer total abstinence-ed, despite all the warnings that it doesn't work, that the Bible belt has more teen pregnancies than anywhere else in the United States? You'd prefer your teen son or daughter to forego all birth control, go out in complete ignorance about sex and how their bodies work, and raise the passle 'o babies they produce yourself?
More fool you.
"The premise is that everyone is sexually active and needs to have access to services, regardless of what their values are, regardless of what their parents believe."
Oh the horror! The horror I say!
*shrieks loudly and runs away*
@ Kerry Knot: Oh boo hoo hoo. If fundie parents are mocked, then they have deserved it.
@ LeAnna Benn: The key word here is "education". Don't you normally find "educational" materials in a library? Isn't the library a place where you go to learn things?
You both fail.
So when librariians take off their nerdy glasses, let their hair down and it blows in the wind, and they undo the top button of their blouses they are really going to Planned Parenthood to have lots of wild sex.
Who said librarians were boring:)

Oh noes, how dare people be kind to others. How dare they take care of the children? The bastards!

If people don't promote sexual activity, humanity will perish, don't you think?. And come on, if you don't want to do it and look like an idiot, it's your choice. Nobody forces you to join that link.
My mother listened to types like you and had me. Then she blamed me for ruining her life by being born. I'm still dealing with the mental and emotional scars of being raised as a punishment baby.
The both of you sanctimonious bitches can fuck right off. Attitudes like yours nearly ruined my life, and I'm not going to let you do it to other kids.
Well, if parents insist on absinence-only education, they are idiots. It just doesn't work, unless you plan on treating your kids for STDs or becoming a grandparent.
"The premise is that everyone is sexually active and needs to have access to services"
Not everybody . Just, you know, a vast majority of people. And if your kids' values mean they won't be sexually active, what does it matter? You think if they find out how to put on a condom they're gonna lose all control and start humping their nearest peer?
Because parents should have absolute control over what their kids do, think, and like, so they can turn them into little right-wing Republican-voting zombies.
That's what you wanted to say.
These people always blabber about "parental rights", but will raise a goddamn stink anytime anyone wants something other than what they want, including parents. It's just a code phrase that mean "we want to brainwash our kids".
The premise is that everyone ... needs to have access to services ... regardless of what their parents believe.
LeAnna is pretty much saying that we should deny services to certain people based on their relatives' beliefs. Their own beliefs simply don't come into it for her; it is their parents whose opinions matter. I wonder if she is familiar with the phrase "Father Knows Best state"?
Not that she supports a big or intrusive government, mind you.
Oh, move to China, you censure-loving idiots!
Everyone* IS sexually active, you dolt, especially teenagers. Better teach them to take care of and protect themselves and their partners, than just put your fingers in your ears and sign "lalala, not my kid, he's a good boy", and end up with a very young father or mother on your hands.
Planned parenthood doesn't promote sexual activity, stupid. It merely accepts reality, that is all. Abstinence IS a joke, at least if you try to force it on others. You personally can decide for yourself to stay abstinent, and your kids must also decide on their own, if it's going to have any chance of working. If it's just you telling them, and not them agreeing, it will definitely not work.
* Not exactly everyone; there are people who don't have a sex drive or simply don't want to. But the overwhelming majority are active.
It's a fucking *PUBLIC* library. Get over it. Or are we now obligated to remove everything from any public space that anyone might happen to find offensive??
If one person finds something offensive, and the rest of the population doesn't, does the entire population need to change to accommodate the needs of the one???
Perhaps we should also burn all the books in the library that you don't agree with?? Perhaps replace every book with some 2000 year old goat-herders' almanacs? Oh, by the way, do you really know how much sex is in that almanac???
I'm offended that I can get to all of the fundie sites from the library computer. They need to remove those, it's horrible stuff. It promotes mindless following of ancient texts, encourages disbelief of modern science, all kinds of offensive things.
I want all of the fundie websites blocked from public library computers. I might accidentally click on a link to one, and it might cause my brain to stop working.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
