[discussing how the digital switchover may actually be a government ploy to monitor Christians]
I have tried plugging in a microphone into a speaker socket and it works as a speaker. I have tried plugging a speaker into a microphone socket and it works as a microphone.
I'm pretty sure that their plan is to watch us through our tv and maybe even tell us what to do. With an RFID chip installed in our bodies required to buy and sell they can just turn it off. The ultimate form of slavery and control.

Microphones and speakers are essentially the same technology, just optimized for their respective purposes. It has been that way since they were first invented.
Video cameras and players are not.
You seem a bit paranoid, stay away from fundi preachers.
Are you sure you aren't Wsmith of Airstrip One, Oceania?
[edit] Aw shit, I was beaten to it.

That's nice, but have you ever tried using a radio receiver as a transmitter? Have you ever tried running an audio amplifier backwards? Have you ever tried using a TV screen as a camera? Because you fucking can't. (Some smartass will probably remark that early video cameras were basically tweaked CRTs - but without any optics to focus an image of the room it's in back onto the screen, a TV still couldn't be used that way)
Honestly, there's just no excuse for being this goddamn ignorant about fundamental engineering when you live in a mechanised society. And if you had even minimal actual technological education, you could easily dismantle most consumer equipment and satisfy yourself that there isn't a secret camera, microphone and radio transmitter in it.
Who is the elusive "they"?
I imagine it's either Obama, liberals, atheists, gays, democrats or all of them rolled into one.
"Where the hell did that come from!?"
They're all up in arms about RFID chips, you know what with Revelations going on about taking the mark of the Beast, well RFID chips fit the bill, and what's more some piece of unidentified research has shown that the best place to put these is either in the back of the hand or forehead due to body temperature fluctuations or something.
When I was younger I saw a intercom system without a Mic,Small, low watt speakers do act like microphones. If you hooked a stereo speaker to your mic port you'd get crap though, Too much resistance. Oddly enough things have specific properties to suit their use. That intercom I spoke of had awful sound.
But to the main point of his post. NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU FUCKS

I'm guessing that research is 100% fiction, if anyone knows different, let them post info here. The only thing the head and hand would have in common for that purpose is, um, they are both specified in the Book Of Revelation story.. Good thing BOR doesn't talk about anal probes.
"I have tried plugging in a microphone into a speaker socket and it works as a speaker. I have tried plugging a speaker into a microphone socket and it works as a microphone."
Ah, yes, but can you get it to do both things at once? No? Ok then, no one can spy on you as long as you keep your TV on with volume. So, let's stick to the shows *I* like that always get canceled and pull those ratings up... mmmmk?
EDIT: BWAHAHAHAHA Later in the thread, "It reminds me of the '1984' movie." Ummm.... read a book for a change? Maybe it'll mean something.
Well you can use a speaker as microphone. But it is shitty as hell.
TV speakers would work that way, if the TV has any recording devices applied to it, and just for that, it still need a line out, not just a line in. (Which cable TV currently is)
And it doesn't work with proper equipment.
I'm pretty sure that their plan is to watch us through our tv and maybe even tell us what to do..
But no, that is the preachers job.
And even if we had that chip and they could tell us what to buy, would it work? No. Our knowledge of the brain is very limited.
maybe even tell us what to do.
Drink Coke
Drink Budweiser
Buy a Chrysler
Yeah I think TV's have been telling us what to do since they went public.
... their plan is to watch us ...
What sane person would want to watch you for any purpose? If someone tried to compel me by pressing a gun to my head I would say, "Good-bye, cruel world." You don't seem to understand that, other than for comic relief, you're of no interest -- or value -- to anyone.
Actually, that works because both microphones and speakers operate based on principles of electromagnetism. Specifically, the relationship between sounds and vibrating electromagnets.
However, if a speaker is properly plugged in to a "Line Out" or speaker jack, it cannot be used as a microphone. To believe otherwise is to be a victim of unreasoning paranoia.
Other people here have pointed out that this is unlikely, since to use speakers as microphones, you'd have to be shouting really loudly.
I don't think it would be a problem in this case.
@surfinseaotter: "Microphones and speakers don't work that way!"
Actually, they do. I plugged my headphones into the mic jack on a cassette player once when I was a kid, and they worked like a microphone (I recorded my voice by speaking into them).
I haven't tried using a mic as a speaker, but I don't see why that wouldn't also work.
What Jsmythe is blathering about, however, won't. For one, the speakers in TVs are hardwired as speakers, and changing the broadcast (over-the-air) signal to digital isn't going to change that in the least.
A speaker can work as a microphone, but amplifiers are one directional. You can't yell into the speaker of a guitar amplifier and have your voice come out of the guitar. Could a circuit be designed to filter the output of a speaker and detect sounds in a room? Sure - that's, in a very rough sort of way, how noise-canceling headphones work. But that would need special spyware built into the TV itself.
"With an RFID chip installed in our bodies required to buy and sell they can just turn it off"
Uh huh. And they'll install these next to your heart, and if you aren't buying enough shit, the right brands, or you try to vote the wrong way, all somebody in charge has to do is flip a switch and you will meet jesus post haste.
Be afriad.
Be very afraid.
And it gets weirder and weirder. Does there paranoia know no bounds? Please, for you own sakes and the sake of society, please see a doctor and take your meds, before you hurt someone.
Have you been holding your farts in, and then, in one explosion of stupid, they erupted from your ass to produce this shit?
"I have tried plugging in a microphone into a speaker socket and it works as a speaker. I have tried plugging a speaker into a microphone socket and it works as a microphone. "
I discovered that trick when I was 12.
"I'm pretty sure that their plan is to watch us through our tv and maybe even tell us what to do."
Wrap your TV set and your head with tinfoil. You'll be safe that way.
Do these people ever stop and consider what possible motivation people could have for wanting to watch them?
Crucial thing in developing a believable conspiracy theory: Make the motivation for conspiracy believable (i.e. worth the effort of setting up and maintaining the conspiracy).
Okay making fun is all well and good, but after reading this I think Jsmythe may seriuosly have some sorth of psychiatric dissorder. The sudden jump to the " implanted RFID chips" bit from a completely different subject seems to suggest it as a possibility. There's also the generally paranoid tone. It's a crying shame what ignorance and religion can inflict on an already-unstable mind.
What is the digital switchover? *googling* Aha! What stopped "them" to listen to and monitoring us before? Cameras have been around for over a hundred years, phonographs too.
Commercials tell us what to buy, not chips in our bodies. Commercials use as much subliminal techniques as they are allowed, and probably a bit more too. Be afraid of commercials instead, they are real.
I have plugged a computer into a wall socket and it works like a computer. I have plugged in a blender into a wall socket an it works like a blender. You were saying? With usb ports and similar things, more and more stuff will be using the same kinds of sockets.
Congratulations, you discovered inductance, a basic principle of electronics. A microphone induces a current onto a wire, and a current induces vibration in a speaker. Likewise, a generator and a motor are essentially the same thing. Is your power grid spying on you through your air conditioner?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
