[A commentary about Barack Obama's support for civil unions, which Mr. Obama believes the sermon on the mount justifies]
Pastor John Barner, manager of pastoral care at Focus on the Family, said: "We are always saddened as evangelical Christians when others who identify themselves as Christians do not have the high view of Scripture that we believe is so important. We believe isolated portions of Scripture should not be used to justify a personal preference or a social position that goes in a different direction than the overall message of Scripture.

One thing you lack, go sell all that you possess and give to the poor. Jesus repeats this message consistently throughout his ministry. If you really want to follow the overall teachings of the Bible, make yourself homeless by faith.
(Added benefit, you can no longer pollute the internet with your idiocy.)
Pot meet kettle. Kettle, pot.
"We believe isolated portions of Scripture should not be used to justify a personal preference or a social position that goes in a different direction than the overall message of Scripture."
Hmm, like "Love thy neighbor", or "But above all else, love ye one another"?
Can we give this guy the "Biggest Fucking Hypocrite Ever" award?
(Seconded, BoxerShorts. That's actually one of my favorite slogans. And why don't they? If they're so concerned with families, why can't they just take care of their own and stop tearig apart other people's?)
Ah, come on folks, don't be too snide about this. Maybe this is the start of a turning point for fundamentalist Christians, where they start focusing on the good teaching of the Bible.
Maybe the people who once gushed over Genesis and Leveticus are going to base their attentions on the passages about helping the poor, showing compassion for others, and generally being as Christ-like as they can.
Maybe faith healers will stop their deception and raise money for real hospitals.
Maybe the stinking rich televangelists will renounce their fortunes and give them away in the style of Francis of Assisi.
Maybe those same men will travel the land as vagrants, moving from homeless shelter to homeless shelter, not seeking aid, but giving it.
Maybe the zealots who oppose science and knowledge will learn the value of discovering the wonder of the world as it is, and encourage that same wonder in others.
And maybe Sir Trevor MacDonald will ejaculate a gibbon made from bubble wrap on live television.
The Irony is astronomical in this one.
(note: I capitalised Irony, as normal irony just doesn't cut it here)
"We believe isolated portions of Scripture should not be used to justify a personal preference or a social position that goes in a different direction than the overall message of Scripture."
You know, John, I don't think anyone ever does this? I'm pretty sure everyone who quotes bits of scripture to justify personal preferences also believes that those personal preferences are part of the 'overall message' of the bible.
You know, just like you do?
Oh, the hypocrisy. Even more, the stupidity and closed minds to not even realize they are hypocrites. Well, I'm sure they realize it but aren't willing to go there because it might mean everything they've ever been taught is wrong.
The overall message of Scripture. You mean slavery, death, and genocide. You fundies need to stop shaving, stop wearing mixed fabrics, stop driving your cars, and stop talking on the Internet. After all, you shouldn't cherry-pick Scripture.
O.O
That kind of denatured, unbridled hypocrisy has no need to exist for any reason.
This is an Ironuke.
This is the Halo (the weapon) of Irony.
I don't know what else to say.
We believe that convicted serial killers(Ted Bundy) should not have their ass licked and be given a forum(radio program) to try and excuse their rapes and murders of innocent women by hypocritical scam artists posing as ministers of God(James Dobson) in an attempt to falsely push said fake preacher's anti-pornography agenda with lies with contradict testimony by the murderer and evidence from his trials. In short Focus on the Fundie is built false pretenses, fake morals, and lies of convenience to push their beliefs. You are a bunch of lying creeps. "Jesus wept."
I just had a brilliant idea; I'm going to hook up an air-bearing driven dynamo pump to my irony meter's display needle. If I over-engineer it enough to survive the stresses it'll suffer at the speed it's whirling about, I should be able to power my hometown.
Good god, these people have no idea how much they project.
"We believe isolated portions of Scripture should not be used to justify a personal preference or a social position that goes in a different direction than the overall message of Scripture."
In other words, don't bother loving thy neighbour unless you also stone adulterers to death.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
