In a thread about a Christian vandalising an Atheist's yard
I would actually just call it even. Sure, the Christians may have vandalized the atheist's physical landscape, but for the past 30+ years atheists have been vandalizing the spiritual landscape of the mother country, the United States of America, the bountiful fruited plain that Jesus so valiantly died and rose again into the spacious skies for.

Jesus died for America? What bloody version of the Bible are you reading?
The Bible says that Jesus died for (prepare yourself) everyone. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Athiest, Agonstic...everyone.
And I lived in the Bible Belt for several years teaching. I was regularly abused and harrangued for my liberal beliefs. I once had a pastor come into my classroom (while I was teaching) and say I was a failure as an American, a man, a teacher, a husband, and a Christian solely because I had (OH NOES!) voted for Gore.
Do I now have the right to go back down there and beat the shit out of him? Please?
Sandman,
The story of the pastor entering your classroom is appalling. Forgive my ignorance, but is that sort of thing a regular occurrence in the bible belt? If it is, how does any teacher manage to teach anything?
surprised? no of course not, fundies have spent their lives rationalising things that are irrational.
And feeling persecuted while persecuting.
It starts to get tedious - the recognition that there is part of humanity who use the majority of their brain cells as packing
Solomgrundy,
Yeah, that kind of crap is pretty damn common in the Bible Belt, and the only way to survive is to either embrace the sheeple-fundie mindset or keep your socio-polital beliefs so far back in the closet that Tom Cruise is holding them for you.
And you know me...I just can't keep my opinion to myself.
I remember assigning a project to my high schoolers in September back in 2000 to choose a candidate, research them, and write a paper explaining who they support and why. We watched the debates, read the speeches, researched their platforms, sent away for their material, I thought it was a good project.
Every single one of them wrote a paper about how they supported Bush 100%. Their reasons all boiled down to 1) Bush will outlaw abortion, and 2) Gore is anti-Christian.
That was the sum total of their reasoning, and as we know now, based on their actions, Gore is the certainly the better fit for the term "Christian" and Bush keeps away from the abortion issue like the plague in case anyone notices he does not have the legal powers to do anything about it at all.
Okay, here's the deal. As an atheist, I will "vandalize" only things that do not exist, and only in a way that has no effect whatsoever on you. As a Christian, you will return the favor.
"I would actually just call it even"
And I would call you an idiot based on the rest of your post.
"Sure, the Christians may have vandalized the atheist's physical landscape"
Good to know you can admit that. By the way, did you know that vandalism is illegal and atheism isn't?
"but for the past 30+ years atheists have been vandalizing the spiritual landscape of the mother country"
How is that? From a spiritual point of view: in not believing in any higher being, atheists do not exist in your spiritual landscape. By not existing in it, they do not harm it just as they do not help it. They simply "don't exist" instead, for lack of a better term.
From a logical standpoint: what "Spiritual Landscape"? Last time I checked, there isn't one. So no, atheists have not been vandalizing any so-called "spiritual landscape."
"the United States of America, the bountiful fruited plain that Jesus so valiantly died and rose again into the spacious skies for."
According to the Bible, Jesus died for the sins of mankind, not for the United States of America.
Please re-read your bible.
Jesus sacrificed himself for america? How noble! How patriotic! How..what..he came back from the dead?
Huh..thats a spit in the face to all of the men and women who REALLY sacrificed their lives for this country.
So...if natives firebombed your house, that's be okay then? Because you guys destroyed their culture, and stole their land, just for the record.
I was confused until the last sentence. He must be a mormon. What, exactly, is the US the mother country of? And when jesus 'died and rose again', I don't remember the bible saying that it was mostly for America. I don't remember there being knowledge of this nation during bible times. This was a pretty dumb thing to say, I hope he feels ashamed of himself every time he reads it.
"the United States of America, the bountiful fruited plain that Jesus so valiantly died and rose again into the spacious skies for."
Strange. The Bible doesn't mention the USA. Nor that land as it was previously inhabited by the Indians. And the Bible is never wrong, not the LITERAL word of God, that must be obeyed LITERALLY, word for word, letter for letter.
And as America isn't mentioned, then it doesn't exist. Therefore Jesus DIDN'T 'valiantly die and rise again into the spacious skies for' it. Ergo you FAIL.
And a Christian vandalises Reason & Logic. But that's par for the course. You & your kind have been vandalising this whole world with your poisonous 'beliefs'.
Confused?
