“That surgeon saved my life by operating when he did.” It is never acceptable to credit mere mortals with things that only God can do. Before we say anything to the human instruments that God chose to work through, we need to be thanking Him first. And at no time is it ever alright for us to say some human saved our life or that some drug cured us. It is always GOD working through the human or GOD working through the drug. He is the only Source of healing power and wisdom. When we go around promoting pills or people as sure cures to others without even bothering to mention God, He is highly offended.

In the meanwhile, we also credit the bone and flesh individual who save is, you know, as it should be
Completely busted by statistics on survival rates, really noticeable when countries with available services and medicine show overwhelming survival for the same cases compared to unavailability.
Pretty dismal score for God in Christian Africa and parts of Christian South America, pretty good wins for science in highly Atheistic parts of Europe too.
What Anna sees

What the real world sees

If it's good, God gets the credit, if it's bad, it's your fault, part 700 billion.
God does it all. He just needs humans to diagnose and treat the problems. He does the rest.
Obviously, in order to diagnose and treat disease, humans have to train medical personnel, fund research, and build a complete medical infrastructure, but then, as surely as night and day, the Holy Ghost heals all.
Now all that medical infrastructure doesn't just poof into existence, it takes the investment of fortune and literally thousands of years of study to pull mankind out of his primitive ignorance to possess some knowledge of the nature of disease. That's not something that just "happens". But as soon as humanity has taken that fumbling first step, the Lord of the comos steps in to finish the job, praise be.
This doesn't mean humans can sit back and relax. The creator of the universe isn't going to piddle around researching diseases for our worthless souls. Earthly nations need to invest a large percentage of their gross national product and devote a sizeable portion of their workforce for the foreseeable future to the ongoing research and treatment of disease. That's all man must do to receive
the amazing healing power of Jesus.
Of course that doesn't include amputees. Let's be realistic here. Nothing can be done for them. What do you want God to do, make bionic limbs or something? Wait... humans haven't invented those yet, have they?
Wait, if all humans are just puppets, doesn't it mean that a puppet is operating a puppet for the sake of his puppeteer's entertainment? Is God playing with a dollhouse? I'm bordering on blasphemy here, but if I were an omnipotent and supposedly omnibenevolent being, I'd create not puppets, but FREE THINKING BEINGS worthy of my attention. I mean, you don't need to be a god to play with dolls. It's kinda degrading, really.
It is always GOD working through the human
And He apparently either works by flipping a coin or has only a limited power. Otherwise, everyone would be cured.
And so god can kiss my ass, Anna.
Seriously, Anna, next time you have an appendicitis attack, you don't need a surgeon. Just pray a lot. That will make it all better.
if i was all powerful i honestly wouldn't care what people did for the most part. i certainly wouldn't care if people didn't thank me for every damn thing to happen to them.
I think Anna here is extending the definition of a sin (maybe no other god before me?) way way past its original intention, and making herself miserable in the process.
This is completely contrary to Catholic doctrine.
But then, Anna thinks she is the only Real Catholic.
Then can I suggest the next time you need surgery you pray to your imaginary buddy in the sky instead?
What's that? The many people who have prayed instead of seeking medical treatment for life threatening illnesses inevitably die when they could have been saved?
As a surgeon, let me say that I'll save your life if you end up in my surgery no matter what your opinions of us.
You're welcome.
If God is only helping others to get personal accreditation then it's not a good god, no matter how many times you plead that it is because of the words in the Wholly Babble. Words are wind, and God doesn't seem to care too much about their worth.
Though, with this being Anna, I'm wasting breath here as you acknowledge God's tendency to lie and demand for constant worship.
Yes, God might have put that doctor there, and given him the expertise needed to do the work. But they at least get the credit of BEING THE ONES GOD CHOSE TO DO THE SURGERY. Seriously, if you found that some omnipresent entity decided that you were the best option to save one of his followers, wouldn't you be at least a little proud. And more importantly, wouldn't the others around you feel good for your sake?
But of course, you have some magical ability to know exactly what God is thinking. So please, let me know how. I know a few atheists who would want an answer.
Confused?
