(The topic is someone running a bakery loses a lawsuit after refusing to make a wedding cake for a gay couple)

I expect the shop owners will want to take extra-judicial retaliation now... seeing as how unjust the law is...

Winning a lawsuit doesn't always mean winning the big game at the very end.

I bet the shop owners know some people who owe them small favors...

If I were making a movie this would be how it proceeds...

The gays walk up to the store owners in the middle of a business hour and in front of every single customer gloatingly demands their cake. Expecting the shop owners to be extremely pissed off and humiliated, they are shocked instead to find the shop owners smiling calmly.

The cake is brought before them but it turns out to be a cake of the very worst quality imaginable. The gays are annoyed and leave, threatening to launch yet another lawsuit over this. Shop owners say nothing but just keep on smiling calmly.

The gays talk to their lawyer again.

Here's the catch though... they never make it to launch the next lawsuit...

@Anon-e-moose: Please, please, PLEASE stop talking for a second and think. Think on how much more difficult people like you making statements like your post here make being an effective ally; after all, it's hard to fully condemn people who assert that the real courageous people are not those who come out as gay, but those who come out as heterosexual Christians, when people like you would have no apparent problem making that a reality. Think also on how bad the Christian right's persecution complex already is; were sentiments like yours to become the prevailing ones, it would, if one accepts the story of Christian persecution, be perfectly rational to seek Second Amendment solutions to said persecution. Lastly, think about how much the attitudes you have expressed (which are perfectly consistent with your other posts here) must have corroded your ethics and morality over the years; I would have thought that secularists would know better than to endorse "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", but it would appear that that is not the case.

@John_in_Oz: Oh, fuck off! Prison rape is nothing to joke about or wish on anyone and your apparent belief to the contrary speaks volumes about your lacking character.

@HEIL SATAN: Sadly, I think God Kefka is indeed as serious as a heart attack. Whether the result of the bakers being coerced into making the cake was indeed just is within the bounds of what can be debated, but a response such as God Kefka's proposition would remove all moral ambiguity from the situation and not in the way he thinks it will. However, I doubt it will come to that, as I think the bakers are better people than our murderous clown friend here.

Nor with said Public Order Act making such unjustifiable attitudes as religion-based homophobia a crime. Please tell me how that can possibly be a bad thing, if not just the likes of the WBC - even a British equivalent - can never be allowed to exist, least of all right-wing Fundamentalist Christainity with their unjustifiable Dominionist mindset? You tell me.

Do you even reading comprehension? I want to help Gender, Romantic & Sexual Minorities, but people like you have a habit of saying things that undermine me in this and give ammunition to opponents of GSRM rights for a counterattack. Do you understand my point now?

That isn't what I said (though demographic trends indicate that this will indeed be the case in the near future). I want to be able to condemn sentiments that belittle the courage it takes to be an out GSRM and falsely lionize the courage it takes to be an 'out' heterosexual Christian, but even though said statements are factually incorrect, the fact that people like you have no problem I can perceive with visiting actual oppression upon Christians means that I have no intellectually honest choice but to grant those statements some breathing room.

I was clearly writing from an American perspective, jackass! The rest of your reply to my initial point here is, ergo, irrelevant, so I won't address it further.

Actually, a straw poll of MPs taken last year indicated over 60% support for repealing Section 5 of the Public Order Act. Furthermore, a recent BBC poll showed 95% agreement with the proposition that the EDL represents a view that needs to be heard, so it seems quite obvious to me that your front isn't quite as unified as you would like to have us think. Beyond even that, though, is the fact that your assertion is a blatant appeal to popularity, which means that, qua reasoned & logical debate, it is worse than useless. The rest of your argument falls apart with these supporting planks undone, so it does not require any more of my time.

Lastly, I am not white-knighting for the Religious Rightwhat interest could a bi, non-neurotypical pagan possibly have in allying his interests with Christianists?
