It doesn't matter who sings what, you'd have to be crazy to believe in demons or other supernatural things. That's why I'm an atheist. 'Course, I'm probably crazy as well, but not in a killo-facist way.
Just because someone thinks he's possessed by demons doesn't mean they exist. Do you think David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam killer, was actually being ordered to kill by a demon that possessed his neighbor's Labrador retriever? Some people are just psychotic, or if they're rock stars, pretend to be for publicity.
Yeah, and what was up with that "Barney" guy? Something had to possess him to make him dress up in a purple dinosaur suit, steal melodies, and put different lyrics to them. Who did he think he was? Elton John?
Channeling is a mind game. It has nothing to do with your imaginary panoply of invisible protagonists. Some day, someone will give me a satisfactory distinction between this kind of superstition and paranoia.
It's called metaphor, Doug. And Indians (Hindu or American) are not demons.
You, however, are possessed by stupid.
Shouldn't you be complaining about someone more recent like Eminem or Lady Gaga or something?
Um, you do know that songwriters use artistic license and metaphor and aren't writing about what literally happens, don't you? And don't be hating on Jim Morrison, one of the most artistic songwriters ever, drugs or no drugs.
@angrycatholic "it just catholic."
None of the Catholics in my family or that I grew up around believed in demons, and none of them had ever heard of any exorcisms until after the movie The Exorcist came out. I think actually expecting to encounter demonic influence anywhere outside a fable about a Saint is definitely a fundie thing. It's crept into Catholic consciousness by living around fundies. Here in the South one finds Catholics who aren't aware that the Church supports old Earth science, evolution of humans from apes, and considers global warming a real problem. Stupidity is catching.
just listen to some of the jim morrison songs
Yup, I glean my wisdom from some troubled rock musician who overdosed in a bathtub in Paris. Sure.
"You don't believe in demonic possession."
Correct.
"just listen to some of the jim morrison songs and here him possessed by what he called his magic man (indian)"
Or, perhaps he is just adopting a persona in the same way that actors do.
Because all songs are to be understood literally. Plus, anything one doesn't care for is obviously demonic.
Morrison was often a bad poet (c'mon "his mind is squirming like a toad,") but that doesn't make him demonic.
I love how the OP writes "(indian)" when mentioning that Jim Morisson talked about his "Magic Man"....in a screed about being inspired by demons. The implications seem to be that Douglas , here, is Most bigoted.
I was thinking of "My Way."
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
And through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
Jim Morrison was over all a poet. He loved Metaphor, misdirection and forming feelings and imagery with words. Kinda the poets game, the more direct obvious poets are,,,who?
He was also hollywood gorgeous and a rule breaker and an achoholic and drug experimenter. He was a bright light and they often burn out early.
And my life would be wonderously different if I looked like him.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
