[Matt Barber on how abortions caused the CO shooting]
In our perverse society, a woman exercising her 'right to choose' death for her innocent child represents 'courage,' while the Batman shooter’s 'choice' to kill innocent moviegoers represents cowardice. And it is. They are both acts of cowardice. The only relevant difference is the victims’ age. Let me be clear: Am I comparing this incredibly wicked, illegal mass murder at Aurora’s Century Theatre to the incredibly wicked, legal mass murder committed at Planned Parenthoods across the country each day? Absolutely – and you can quote me on it.
But again, like the Batman murders, our nation’s 55-plus million abortion murders post Roe v. Wade are not the cause of our culture of death; they are merely a symptom. Ultimately, the cause stems from something much less complicated. We as a nation – as a people – have turned our backs on God. We have rebelled against Him and have forgotten that it was He and He alone who gave us 200-plus years of prosperity, unprecedented in world history. We have left Him, so why are we surprised He’s leaving us? We have said, 'We don’t need you, leave us alone.' And so He has.

200+? I'm not sure you want to include the Gilded Age...
Besides, you may want to explain to us WHY God would leave his creations unable to do anything right on their own. Appeals to divine glory will be rejected as appeal to a worthless thing (note: the "worthless" part would be the "glory", not necessarily the "divine").
1) Having an abortion is not killing an innocent child, it is destroying unconscious human tissue. Once the emotivism is cut away, that's all that is left.
2) I guess we did quote you on that.
3) Your nostalgic recollections are not a history book. Violence, hunger, poverty, disease and whatever else you care to name has been steadily dropping for the last 200 years in the US, Fox News' breathless bleed-lead news coverage notwithstanding. Oh, and slavery.
Ah, the breath of fresh air of inviting conspiracy theories to meet with senseless murder to include irrational logic compiled completely from a steaming bag of bullshit.
Until you shove a watermelon sized object from the head of your penis, I don't want to hear a damn thing about abortion out of your face again. Shut up or put up.
This guy is one sick fuck. I really can't stand people who think we're all totally helpless without their magic man in the sky.
I'm not a violent person BUT I could make an exception for people like this pissant.
200-plus years of prosperity, unprecedented in world history.
200-plus years of prosperity? Unprecedented in world history?
First, you obviously know very little about world history.
Second, I guess slavery, the mass murdering of Native Americans, the Great Depression, segregation, the stark social injustice of early capitalism, sweatshops, etc., etc. don't count in your book. Or do we have God to thank for all those lovely things, things he gave us before he left? If so, good riddance.
Oh yes, and please define "prosperity".
@Micharion
The truth is only a small percentage of abortions are due to rape. If I remember correctly, the overwhelming majority are because the person can't care for the child at that time.
I just did a quick check. Only 1% are due to rape or incest. 21% are because the mother is unready for the responsibility; 21% because they can't afford a baby and 16% because of the mother's fear of how a baby would change her life.
The numbers are from the Guttmacher Institute which is pretty trustworthy. As much as I am convinced that abortion choice is necessary, you can see why a lot of people have a problem with it.
"We have said, 'We don’t need you, leave us alone.' And so He has."
Hmmm, I wonder if it might be that he was never there to begin with. Just throwing that out there.
These wingnuts are like a choir of parrots. It's a bad joke. Every time some tragedy occurs, they immediately leap into the media spotlight to cry about their pet peeve.
So, guys. What do you think caused this latest tragedy?
Pat Robertson: GAYS!
Matt Barber: ABORTIONS!
Jerry Falwell: PAGANS!
Creationists: SCIENCE!
Muslims: NON-HALAL MEAT! (squawk!)
sadly it is evident that the christians are emulating their God who after all has the highest body count in recorded history.
Ask yourself why a kind loving God would not at least send an angel to stop the shooter ?
"We have left Him, so why are we surprised He’s leaving us? We have said, 'We don’t need you, leave us alone.' And so He has."
Which is bullshit even according to your fundy theology. You say he's removing himself from human affairs, and yet you believe he's coming back to judge the world and involve him in the destiny of every human being. Which is it? You can't have it both ways. You can't have a god that gets fed up with humans with minute and leaves them to their own devices, and then the next insists on casting judgement to send them to Heaven or Hell.
Embryos are not people, the movie-goers were. It's as simple as that.
There is no prohibition of abortion in the Bible, it's not even mentioned, so how do you know that God would be against it?
Also, how do you know that your god is the right one and that he has left us?
"our nation’s 55-plus million abortion murder"
Citation?
An embryo is not a child. Even the Jews say the soul only gets inside the child after 40 days of pregnancy.
If an abortion is murder, what is masturbation? A genocide?
"200-plus years of prosperity, unprecedented in world history"
Civil War? 1929?
And those are just the ones I get off the top of my head.
You seem a bit hazy on the history of the US of A, dearie.
The declaration of independence came in 1776. Roe v Wade was decided in 1973, within that 200-plus years of prosperity that you talk about. The two world wars are also within that unprecedented prosperity, strangely enough.
You, as a nation, as a people, are more religious than most other Western world countries.
Murder is the killing of a living human being, with a functioning nervous system and a beating heart.
Many of those "55-plus million abortion murders" had probably ended in spontaneous abortions anyway; acts of God, ya know. Btw, do you have chapter and verse where God speaks out about abortions? Nah, didn't think so, there are only verses where he promotes or even orders the killing of infants and fetuses.
We have left Him, so why are we surprised He’s leaving us? We have said, 'We don’t need you, leave us alone.' And so He has.
Isn't it just us unbelievers who shun your sky dad? He still has you fundies by the short hairs. It seems our message has a lot more influence on him than all your preaching, praying, bowing and scraping, if he's leaving the whole world alone, including his devotees, which, btw, number around 80% of the U.S. population, hm?
And we're where, around 2% or so?
Your nation has only been the most prosperous in the world for around 100 years, so to say you've '200-plus years of prosperity unprecedented in world history' seems a little over the top, does it not?
The British ruled the world, then collapsed, with a belief in your god; the Romans ruled the known world by killing those who worshipped your god. Perhaps, therefore, belief in your god is completely unrelated to a nation's prosperity...
I find the idea that a culture of death stems from a rejection of god pretty unlikely.
Mostly because this god seemed to be really very fond of massacres, "thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth" and all that, so surely a culture of death would be pleasing to him?
Besides that, how strange that those who are so staunchly opposed to the killing of an undeveloped embryo seem to be the most enthusiastic advocates of the death penalty, which is the killing of a fully-developed human adult.
Seeing all these classy jackasses jumping on the tragedy-vulture bandwagon makes me feel sick, especially when their pet causes/peeves have absolutely nothing even tangentially related to do with the incident .
I could just as easily use this as an opportunity to whore out my own stances on gun control and universal healthcare (primarily universal mental healthcare, but also universal healthcare in general, since some of those hospitalized don't have insurance)issues which at least are actually relevant to the tragedy at handhowever, I choose to take the high road and refrain from being a tactless and insensitive vulture who uses a national tragedy as a platform to express his opinions and praise the righteousness of them. (Hell, I already feel wrong for simply acknowledging the personal causes I could use this as a platform for.)
Also, rofl @ Reynardine.
I'll take "Demagoguery" for $1000, Alex.
I absolutely hate how people will take a terrible incident like this and twist it around for their own political purposes.
"He and He alone" "gave us 200-plus years of prosperity". Why give a deity the credit for the hard work and self-sacrifice of generations and generations of people?
Why must God act like such a petulant toddler? "Waaah, they're not worshipping me enough! I'll show them! I'll cause someone to shoot people in a cinema in Colorado!"
"He and He alone who gave us 200-plus years of prosperity, unprecedented in world history."
Uh, weren't the Ancient Romans a civilization for like 1000 years and adopted Christianity right before they fell?
Was your God defeated by Zeus in God school or something?
In our perverse society, a christian exercising his "freedom" of religion bombs a clinic or murders a doctor because his religion says he should, then complains that his arrest, conviction and sentence infringes on the "freedom". And that is it.
Am I comparing these crimes with muslims killing, torturing and burning infidels in their enforcement of sharia? Absolutely - and you can quote me on it.
gave us 200-plus years of prosperity, unprecedented in world history
That's right. Rome, Greece, Egypt, and China never existed. Which, by the way, is why the global flood never affected the latter 2.
The christian churches should expel any member who does not follow all of Gods laws.
Once that is done the churches will be tiny and only a very few true christians will exist.
That includes stoning fornicators, adulterers and unruly children, homosexuals and witches. Also those wearing poly-cotton blends or other mixed fibres.
Confused?
