Average Guy Skyfire didn't just recently break into the forums. He's a mormon fundy who has been posting for years, just not so much in the past several months or so.

I'll note, I didn't live in poverty, my mother worked her ass off to ensure I didn't have to.
And as for how well I'm spreading those STDs? I'm in a stable relationship, which has gone for over two years with no unplanned pregnancies, and mostly waiting to be settled into my professional life before I have a kid.

Any look at middle ages church records would show you how many shotgun pitchfork(?) weddings happened. Just compare the marriage dates to the birth dates.

All of which can be avoided if one knows how to use condoms and birth control. Of all the couples who routinely practice safe sex, only a small percentage end up pregnant or contracting STDs. Plus, it's not like marriage offers complete protection from unwanted pregnancy and infection. A good portion of abortions and STD infections occur in the married population. Marriage also doesn't magically give you some special mental ability to properly deal with sex... plenty of married couples are emotionally immature and ignorant of the mechanics of safe sex.

You're confusing the variables here.
None of these problems are caused by premarital sex. They are caused by a lack of ready access to safe & effective birth control and education about how to use same. You don't want unplanned pregnancies happening? You don't want abortions? You don't want "shotgun weddings?" Make a donation to Planned Parenthood or some similar organization, and vote in school board members who are going to support comprehensive sex education programs in our schools, rather than the "abstinence only" bullshit that we know doesn't work. And STDs? You don't like those? Condoms! You get a two-fer with condoms! Birth control and disease control!
Marriage will not prevent unwanted pregnancies, will not prevent abortions, will not prevent poverty, and will not prevent STDs. Marriage is great in the right time & place, between the right people, for the right reasons. But it's not a panacea for all the world's ills. (Birth control isn't, either--but it would sure help.)
Both my brother and I were born before my parent's got married.
We're happy, healthy, educated and well-loved.
