[Lieberman's settlement bars Russian-Israeli families from buying homes]
"The biggest problem is that if you accept 10 families in which the mother isn't Jewish, then soon there will be 30 children, and tomorrow your son could fall in love with the good-looking girl next door. It's a real problem," Heiman said.
"It's difficult enough with the dozens of terrorists who enter each morning," added Nokdim resident Amit Gruen, in apparent reference to Palestinians employed in home construction in the settlement.
"We have to separate ourselves from the gentiles in commerce and everything else - particularly when it comes to living with them. It could lead to assimilation or idol worship; it opens the door to all kinds of trouble. They might lead us into committing offenses that Jews normally don't do, like idolatry and incest and all kinds of other perversions. That's why we have no place for them here," he said.

They might lead us into committing offenses that Jews normally don't do
I've never understood how religious people can claim their faith is so strong but yet hide themselves away from any & all temptation. What does it say for someone's character to not give into temptation if they're never tempted? I'd think it'd build far more character if one was tempted often but still resisted. It reminds me of Baptist friends I used to have who said they couldn't hang out at the bar with me because people drink alcohol there. I told them that I'd buy them cokes if they liked, but they still refused.
Of course that temptation is only valid from a religious point of view. Personally, I think that if something isn't hurting anyone, what's wrong with it?
Oh yeah, those Russians... every time I meet one they try to get me to have sex with my brother.
And calling the Palestinian construction workers terrorists? Really, Israel? Really? They're just trying to feed their families, something that the apartheid state Israel is running makes very difficult.

Yeah, I can see what a problem that could be, you know, having your child find true love with some non-Jew.
"It's a real problem,"
No, it's an imaginary problem. Fear and bigotry are the real problems.
"They might lead us into committing offenses that Jews normally don't do, like idolatry and incest and all kinds of other perversions."
Because no Jews have ever committed incest or other perversions? Or are you saying that non-Jews normally commit incest? Either way, you're an a**hole.
Too late, I think. The OT lists all those offenses as committed by Jews. According to the same source, this has turned the biblical god into a petulant, whiny and psychotic child.
Please don't blame others. You bastards wrote that piece of crap.

No, the real problem in Israel is who exactly is Jewish and who gets to decide what the criteria are. Right now, a handful of ultra-orthodox right-wingers have set themselves up as the ultimate authority. It's like giving a bunch of redneck independent fundamentalists in Appalachia (i.e., BIEBNOs - "Baptists In Everything But Name Only") the right to define under the law who is or isn't a Christian.
You know, I think it's being in the majority religion that makes people nuts, and being in the minority makes them question and hold more rational beliefs. Of all the fundie Jews I've seen on here, I don't think any were outside of Israel. And I've never heard of any in the US either--and no fundie Muslims other than those who came here specifically with terrorism in mind. It's like, if you're surrounded by like-minded people, you get so sure of your beliefs you stop questioning and start yelling at outsiders, but if you know people personally who differ from you, you become more reasonable, even if you don't drop your native religion.
Anyway, just a Jew here to say that nobody I know in the U.S. believes anything like this nutjob Heiman guy.
Edit:
@WickedWitch: Yeah, I don't practice either. My family celebrates Passover, but we don't go to a synagogue or anything, and they didn't have a problem with me being an atheist. So the Orthodox idea seems pretty weird to me. But oh well.
@Sasha: I was going to say that exact same thing! ;)

So apparently Lot, Noah's family and Adam's family reproduced magically, right? Also, my irony meter got broken. Anyone else has another one?
@Wehpudicabok
I mostly agree - the more a religion is a majority in the country, the more likely it is to have fundamentalists of that religion. (Except for Scientologists, who are always nuts.) I've seen some Orthodox Jews who were really, really nuts though here in the US. Like one cousin of mine who refuses to speak to me because I don't share the same die-hard views about Israel that he does.
(I'm a Jew too, BTW. Not a practicing one by any means, though.)
What's wrong with falling in love with the good-looking girl next door? People fantasize about that kind of thing.
HAHA OH WOW
SERIOUSLY? The presence of gentiles causes idolatry and incest and assorted other sins? I have NEVER heard this.
"They might lead us into committing offenses that Jews normally don't do, like idolatry and incest and all kinds of other perversions."
Yeah, christians do that a lot.
First, pretty much all the Jews who bugged out to Palestine after WWII have Europeans in the woodpile. Second, I thought Israel was thrilled to get all the Russian Jews back into the fold. As for idol worshiping, I don't know, although I have heard them sing some songs about worshiping vodka.

That's it. Time to RELEASE THE FUCKING ALDRIN.

Haman, you can't fool me with that alias. You will be banished again and my people will be free to make macaroni pictures. This will be so no matter where they are from, or how recently they have arrived. I have spoken.
