[posted one day after the London suicide bombings] If there were no fundamentalism, nor any belief in God, there would be murder, crime, brutality, and no mercy all about us—in every corner. Standards of morality would plunge to the ground, as billions would no longer feel the need of responsibility to maintain moral purity. Blood would be running down every street.

Personally, I think this mindset says more about the fundy than it does about the non-christian. I don't follow the bible one little bit, and I manage to keep from killing people (although reading this site sometimes tempts me). Christians, on the other hand, have, historically, an awful track record when it comes killing and generally immoral behavior.
Yeah, let's just forget the Crusades, the Inquisition, the witch burnings and that's just the tip of the Christian iceberg. Honestly, I think a world without fundies would be near perfect.
I know we like to shoot this one down by saying "well, I've been an atheist for years and I do no harm, help old ladies across the street etc",

There's tons of evidence for peaceful societies without religion. There's even more evidence for MORE peaceful societies outside of Christianity. You LOOSE so bad on this theory.
The Abrahamic religions have TONS OF SHIT to answer for, Christianity is the WORST OFFENDER.
Most religious people act like everybody else and rationalize ex-post, bending their beliefs where necessary.

So THAT's why the streets of every Swedish town is covered in blood, while the streets of Homs in Syria are covered in flowers and dancing kids; Syria has almost no atheists, while at least 45 percent of the Swedish population are non-religious*.
* According to Wikipedia, 70% are members of the Swedish Church, but only 2 percent of those go to church regularly. 45-85% of the Swedish population are atheists or agnostics. We're apparently the second least religious country in the world. It didn't mention who was the least religious, though...
So Scandinavia, with a record high of atheism, is corrupt? Quite the contrary according to how they remain countries and don't even ask for foreign aid. If you haven't heard, laws and empathy exist naturally. It sounds quite queer that without fear of divine retribution you guys would apparently burn to the ground. You have too much faith in God, and too little in humanity.
