*The U.S. House Judiciary Committee will vote on a controversial legislation next week that seeks to add homosexual and transgender people to the list of classes federally protected from hate crimes.*
Here it comes. Official govt sponsored persecution.

You know, I remember a documentary about Neo-Nazis, where they said that they were being persecuted because of their beliefs. I dunno why this reminded me of it...
That's right, I Godwin'd the Raptards!
Looks like someone's confused this with Prop h8.
If you want govt sponsored persecution go to North Korea so we can be rid of you, otherwise STFU.
Please give your Sky Daddy a call and tell him to come get you, and soon.
I have hormones to take and a penis to get, and the last thing I want is you shoving your nose into my business and screaming "PERSECUTION BAAW".
Speaking as someone who was a victim of a hate crime himself (in high school; long story), I'm not a big fan of hate crime legislation in general (primarily because I think the punishment should fit the crime itself and not what the person was thinking when they did it).
That said, there's no reason to protect some minority groups and leave others out of the proverbial umbrella.
I don't see how extension of existing laws is government sponsored persecution, though... (And what makes it controversial? It was only controversial when the concept of hate crimes was first introduced...)
Mudak: All crimes are punished partly based on what the person was thinking when they did it. Take your friend's iPod because you thought your friend gave permission to borrow it, and you'll be treated very differently by the legal system than someone who took their friend's iPod with the intention of secretly selling it on eBay. Likewise, hate crimes are committed with the intention of hurting or intimidating an entire group of people--they may deserve to be treated differently.
In a tiny bit of their defense, it's not that they're sad about not being able to commit hate crimes - they're just fapping over the idea that teh ebil ebil gayz will make any sort of dislike of homsexuality as a hate crime, which obviously can't and won't happen. >.>
I mean, the KKK are technically allowed to hold their marches under the first amendment, as long as they don't get too uppity. I almost want to bring the point up to them, but that'd mean actually posting at RR.
*Puts on fundie mask*
Okay, I'm flipping through my Hate-O-Dex... No! There's no one left for us to legally hate!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Thejebusfire: Because, of course, everyone is born Christian, and only leave later when they're brainwashed by the evil atheist Muslim secular government, but no one is born gay and the gays are just the ones who are brainwashed the worst.
There are, unfortunately, certain fundies who do, indeed, believe that being forbidden to hate, or preach hatred towards, homosexuals amounts to an infringement on their freedom of religion. It is a sickening attitude. Why weren't these people taught "live and let live" when they were kids? Why on earth do they think it is their business who other people marry, or sleep with? And how on earth do they reconcile bullying or outright violence towards gays with their God's commandment "love thy neighbour?"
Go read your precious Book again, guys! It doesn't say "Love thy neighbour unless he's a fag; if he's a fag you can kick his ass!"
Anyway, get over yourselves. It's not persecution just because you're not allowed to persecute someone else. And you can still hate them all you want, no matter what your God said about that. You just can't commit crimes against them just because they're gay.
Isn't the "Official govt sponsored persecution" ENDING now, when people are not allowed to persecute these people and get away with it? There have at least been unofficially sponsoring, as lots of law officals have looked the other way.
Oh, wait, is it persecution against fundies? They are no longer allowed to threaten and mutilate whomever they want?
Fundies really have to read up on Persecution. It does not mean what they think it means.
...are you serious ?
Dude, buddy, hate-crime laws are the complete opposite of government-sponsored persecution; they prevent persecution.
Hint: If you're not legally able to persecute a group of people, that doesn't mean you're being persecuted.
Hey, isn't Wrath a mortal sin? Getting that worked up about someone else's sexual preference or identity, that's either fright or wrath.
Mortal sins keep you out of heaven, right? The rest of us, who are sure of our own sexual identity, and couldn't care less who anyone else goes to bed with, we can get into heaven. If indeed it exists. But as you are so conceited as to be absolutely sure you are the chosen ones, you are allready kept out... Two sins don't make a virtue.
Please explain exactly how this is persecution you?
Mommy, I am not longer allowed to persecute teh gheys. This is persection me... Wwwwwaaaaaaaawwwww!
Has one of them given an example of how the hell they're being persecuted?
Oh and MrMann, use this 3 times a day and shut the hell up.

I'm not really sure I like hate crimes legislation -- a crime is a crime. But I do like the surety that the law protects all citizens regardless of who or what they are.
So stop whining about how you don't get to bash gays, you nutjob.
No, official government sponsored protection from harassment/bullying/murder - something that raptureretards see as some kind of Satanic 'divine duty'. More 'Christian persecution' fiction. Fundies actually WANT the RIGHT to harass/threaten/bully and yes - even physically assault homosexuals?! Not acceptable in a civilized world.
Not sure if someone already took care of this angle yet:
Umm... Where does it say that YOU will be persecuted? If i ever see a mob of angry gay people chasing you around, I'm SOOO gonna trip your dumb ass.
THEN the persecution shall commence...
Of your butt!!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
