On that note, I just want to say, that my heart HURTS for Christians who watch extremely graphic gore and violence, like in the "Saw" movies. Those horrible images will stick in your mind forever. That kind of evil and sadism should not be FUN to watch or ENTERTAINMENT; they should be seen as tools of Satan to get his agenda out to lots and lots of people. Please pray about it and look to God, the Bible, and other Christians for the answer. But I really, really think that you should not have anything to do with them.
I don't even want to take my children into a movie store until they are old enough to drive because JUST THE COVERS of movies are disgusting and dispicable.

Obviously you've never read your own Bible (especially the OT).
And, on that note, I just want to say, that my heart HURTS for Christians who watch extremely graphic gore and violence, like in the "Passion of the Christ" movie.
It must suck to be you if you are offended by dvd covers. And I really doubt that Saw is intended to be "fun" to watch, it's supposed to be dark, intense, gory and frightening. I know some people are into gore, but I think most people go to see the movies because of the unique storyline and the rather inventive methods of the genius killer Jigsaw. Also I'll bet you think it's just peachy for Christians to watch The Passion of the Christ which from what I've seen is at least as gory as some of the death scenes in Saw. So if Christians think that movie is okay to watch, why not Saw? I guess if all Jigsaw's victims were Christians then it would be acceptable? Makes no sense.
"my heart HURTS for Christians who watch extremely graphic gore and violence"
Well, my heart HURTS a for anyone who feels that extremely graphic gore and violence is entertainment, but I still support their right to it.
I remember a song from my childhood:
"Be careful little minds what you think.
Be careful little minds what you think.
There's a father up above
Who is looking down with love
So be careful little minds what you think."
It's that kind of chewy goodness that keeps you from ever questioning the drivel you're told.
If people are free to watch or not watch, and if it's not hurting anybody else, then STFU. There's too much censorship in the world as it is, whether it be in movies, song lyrics, or on the six o'clock news.
I really like how they emphasize the CHRIST in "Valley Church of CHRIST". It's almost like there are competing Valley Churches and people tend to wander into the wrong one.
Or it could just be fundie egotism. "This is a church of CHRIST, boy!"
How bout that nasty crucifix that hangs everywhere...or depictions of St. Sebastian or John the Baptists head on a platter?
(OK--I actually, I totally dig gorey slasher movies for no reason I understand...maybe it was the Catholic upbringing. Nonetheless, I say hack away!)
It HURTS your heart to think about gore and violence except when you are thinking about non- Christians burning in hell. That, or when you read the bible for that matter, cause that handbook for sadomasochist fiction has got it all.
Except the Saw movies aren't real. I have a very developed sense of reality and fantasy, and there's something exhilarating and safe about watching violent movies rather than experiencing them in real life.
You believe that the Bible is real - there's stabbing, adultery, dogs eating women, massacres, plagues, crucifixions, etc.
I'm not a fan of the Saw movies. The first one was okay, but that was enough for me.
But here's the thing, if other people want to watch it, it's their business. Just don't invite me over.
@ aaa
...and after that, we'll give her a crash course into the meanings of the names John Waters, David Lynch, Ralph Bakshi, Rob Zombie...
And the graphic violence that describes Kings and Exodus in the Bible?, or the no less graphic violence in Macbeth?. Man, you're a little faint of heart, and apparently don't know the meaning of FICTION.
What's that part of the bible that talks about lakes of burning fire, wailing, gnashing teeth, worms crawling all over you, eternal torture... and you have a problem with Hollywood?
"Passion of the Christ" n-thed.
@Falconer: Cera (the main triceratops in the Land Before Time movies, and thus the one on most of the covers) is really more orange in colour. Yeah, I probably watch those movies way too much.
There are probably whole psychological studies devoted to why people enjoy horror fiction, and he writes it all off as "don't, it'll turn you evil." The ability of the fundy to use his brain apeishly and simultaneously deny he came from apes astounds me.
A bit extreme, but I could easily see any parents taking issue with a lot of horror movies.
That being said, I usually find them pretty funny. Not in a sick way, but in a "wow this is a bit over-the-top" way.
Oh yeah, I know you're a fundie and therefore you probably haven't actually read the bible, but there is a story about a woman being gang-raped and then cut up into 12 pieces which were sent to the 12 tribes...that's not a very wholesome tale, is it?
I can't help but think....Your symbol is of a man crucified. One of the worst ways to die. Your book is chock full of rape, pillaging, sacking villages, and violence. I enjoy the Saw movies but I didn't find them fun. I found them unique and I could see why Jigsaw was doing what he was doing even though i didn't agree with his methods. The people in your Bible though, many of them I have seen little to no justification
Yeah...
But they're really, really funny.
I mean, come on, there's nothing better than a good bit of extreme Shadenfreude.
Saw?
Hilarious.
Disturbia?
Fantasticly laughable.
30 Days of Night?
Fucking pissed myself.
Oh please... Even as a teen, I knew the death and horror scenes, even in Lucio Fulci's works or Peter Jackson's first films, were faked.
In fact, that was my main interest in seeing these flicks: figuring out how the filmmakers did it. This directly led to a lifelong fascination with the technical side of movie-making.
I've never, ever dreamt of dismembering anyone. Besides, one of the most repulsive films I've ever seen, for the sheer sadistic insistence on pain it demonstrates, is... 'The Passion of the Christ'.
How do you raise kids in todays world and manage to keep them from seeing the covers on movies?
I do check stuff out before I let them watch it to make sure that they can handle it. They are smarter than fundie adults because even my preschooler knows that movies are pretend stuff for us to enjoy.
Hey, Battle Royale is a classic, and does a far better job of exploring various human natures than anything fundies have ever come up with.
The violence is just an added bonus.
And now, when they are (presumably) old enough to drive, movie stores are all but extinct (at least where I live). Blu-Ray boxes are just PERFECT items to order online (same shape and size, light-weight, not particularly fragile), and the online stores don't have to pay rent to both a store and a warehouse, and need a much fewer employees. (I don't particularly like it, but that's capitalism for you.)
Although... The covers can be viewed even more easily online than in the stores, and there are much, MUCH more of them online. Not to mention the "adult" ones are probably much easier to obtain...
If you don't like gore, why the heck did you watch the Saw movies? I know I don't like gore, so I did not watch them, and if I didn't know, I'd have stopped after the first one, as I learn from my mistakes.
Oh, and it's "despicable", isn't it? What kind of a role model are you to your kids, if you can't spell (or use a spell-checker)?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
