It is interesting to note that pagans believe in a horned god.
Is this not significant? Don't you guys think you should ask yourselves some questions about the origins of this horned god?
If you look at medieval imagery in art and literature, the devil is often depicted as a goat, dragon or horned figure. These descriptions accord with Biblical teachings about the devil (see eg Revelation 12:9). During those times, when witchcraft was at its peak, worship of the 'horned god' was also recorded.
Although I fully appreciate that most modern day pagans do not intentionally worship the devil, perhaps you should ask yourselves why one of your deities is represented in the same manner as Satan?
Could it not be that something that was started as a sinister rebellion to the Yahweh, God of the Bible, has been innocently passed down the generations as the 'horned god' of paganism?

Pagans, of which there are many "brands," are believers in nature-based religions. Whether or not some sects believe in some horned god is irrelevant to your argument as many types of paganism pre-date Christianity and the invention of it's Satan character.
"Could it not be ..."
No.
Let me guess, you're talking about Pan? I hate to burst your bubble but the simularities (the horns and cloven feet) were probably due to Christians using Pan as a basis for how they envisioned the devil. It has nothing to do with the devil being real and appearing to Humans throughout our civilization...or does it. *twightlight zone music plays in the background*
"Both wicked and lustful, this God's horny might,
He plays hide and seek, with the shadows of night,
Enthroned in high mountains, nobility crowned
With the wisdom of ages, the forest his gown,
So nimble the fingers that pipe out the tune,
Simple and pure is the song of the moon -
That echoes each evening the ritual performed,
a lament for a God to a Devil transformed."
[...]
"God of many faces, yet none of them are known,
Existing in all places at all times, his glory shown,
In the majesty of nature, let the Hymn to Pan be sung,
For this is but a History of a Time to Come."
- Sabbat, "Horned is the Hunter."
Ace song btw.
@#355050 Hey... it makes sense now! Pan was the fertility god, right? And he was used for the Devil? That's why Christians demonize sex!!! Yay!
and Texus? Yeah, try again.
if someone painted it, IT MUST BE TRUE
if some medieval douche said it, IT MUST BE TRUE
congrats you fail at art!
if you actualy do any real research on satan, youll see there is almost and endless amout of different renderings of what people think he might look like.
In one painting he may be a serpent, in the next, an angel with black leathery wing...I have even seen him as a "mask" of flames.
It is likely his representation as a goatlike beast has to do with the description of a "being" refered to as "Baphomet" during the Inquisition...
If you see the similarity between Pan and Lucifer, its because, well, Lucifer's imag was borrowed from Pan somewhere around the 10th century I believe.
"Could it not be that something that was started as a sinister rebellion to the Yahweh, God of the Bible, has been innocently passed down the generations as the 'horned god' of paganism?"
No, its just you being very judgemental, bigoted and ignorant.
While some gods, especially of the hunt and nature, were stag-like beings or outright fauns and satyrs, they were not Satan. They existed long before the Christians stole the idea of the ultimate evil force in the universe from the Zorastrians.
Pan existed long before Satan was invented, as did Cernunnos (the archetypal "horned god" of paganism).
The Horned God is a key god in Wicca, but many more culture-specific pagans do not believe in any horned god. A Hellenistic pagan who worships Apollo, for example, is not worshiping a horned god. An Odinist who worships, well, Odin, is not worshiping a horned god.
In other words: you fail.
Just two signals of how stupid and simple in your reasoning you are.
a)"Pagan" is an umbrella term that goes from the year 10,000 BC to nowadays and encodes everybody who doesn't worship the God of Christianity, or, at least, any of the official religion, non-theistic or monoteistic, we have nowadays. So, if you're telling me that ALL worshipped a horned god, you're being a little naive. In fact, the horned god was only worshipped in SOME places in Europe.
b)The Devil is not described that way in Revelation. They're actually describing the anti-Christ(a totally different matter)and those animals are symbols for the different people and evils of society.
c)The factual medieval description of the Devil is actually a BORROWING from the European Pagan gods, not the other way round.
Ethnocentrism and ignorance much?
THE PAGAN *HORNED GOD* PREDATES THE BIBLICAL GOD AND SATAN!
Maybe, and I might be totally off here, maybe the christians "stole" PAN from the pagans and made him their Satan! It wouldn't be the first thing Christians took over from Pagans!
That's like saying it's really interesting and scary that the people in Star Wars and Star Trek both drive around in spaceships,
or that Tolkien and D & D are both populated by elves,
or that both Marvel and DC superheroes sometimes wear capes.
Like any other genre, religions gravitate to certain themes and symbols, not to mention the healthy cross-pollonation/plagerism of older religions by far newer ones, such as xtianity.
No, you 'tard, Christians demonized Pan into their own devil.

Fuck you, we don't want him. Stick him in a crate and send him to the south pole with a sticker on the side of the box that says "Do Not Open Until Xmas."
"These descriptions accord with Biblical teachings about the devil (see eg Revelation 12:9)."
Revelation 12:9 :
"The great dragon was hurled downthat ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him."
Funny, I don't see any mention of horns there....
I'm sorry, you FAIL.
The Christian "Devil" is an intentional misrepresentation of the Horned God, taking His attribute of fertility with the natural connotations implied, and twisting it about into an evil, lustful, sin-promoting, monster. Rather conveniently, sex outside of marriage, in anything other than the missionary position, and/or taking pleasure in the act, was a sin. Monotheistic terrorist propaganda does it again.
The "horned god" thing comes most likely from the Celtic (Gallic) god Cernnunos, who was most likely a god of fertility or hunt. But instead of goat horns, he had antlers, like those of a stag, which were important animals in Celtic religion. TexusWarrior needs to get his facts straight and do some Cernnunosdamn research. Although if I did get some facts wrong, I apologize.
You really are that fucking stupid, aren't ya tex? Pagans have been worshipping a horned god thousands of years before your christianity came along. Christians actually stole the horned god and made it into satan, even though there's nothing in the bible to conclude that's what satan looks like. Learn some history, and get a life, and realize that your whole religion was stolen from the pagans.
Actually the Bible isnt very specific on what satan looks like. The OT generalizes his appearance as a beautiful angel. The book of revelations characterize him as a huge, 7 headed dragon/hydra with crowns of horn os each head with a whore riding on his back (sounds like a fun ride to me..LOL)
The devil that YOU are talking about is well known demonization of pagan gods who considered the horns on their gods head to be a symbol of superiority in masculinity..ever learned symbolism?
Your Christian concept of Satan is STOLEN from Northern Europeans concepts of evil personified. Check out the Cathedrals built, their freizes and sculptures carry the Gargoyles, Mixed beasts, symbols and designs of many Pagan beliefs.
You stole the Devil concept from Pagans , and you did it so badly you ignored everything in your Holy Bible that describes Satan as a beautiful Angel.
The Pagans and Jews wish you'd just quit trying to steal everything.
Pan: Roman fertility God. Also associated with the protector of both pastoral and woodland animals. Had a constant erection.
Cernunnos: Gaulish horned God. Associated with hunting, wealth and humanity's relationship with the natural world.
Set: God of lower Egypt. Betrayed his brother Osiris after his wife Nepthys slept with him.
Satan: Accuses all the good little Christians of the sins they commit. Essentially God's prosecutor.
Lucifer: Rebel against God. Brought knowledge to humanity that God did not want them to have.
The Devil: Tempts human beings to sin.
Note that those last three are three faces of the same figure in Judeo-Christian mythology. The former three are distinct deities in their own right.
So if a Pagan tells you that they worship a horned god- take some time to actually listen to what they say rather than trying to impose your own interpretation on what they claim.
Must really piss you off, o Texus Warrior, that the home of the BBC, Britain has a state religion: the Church of England.
Also, this:

Not seeing the Leader of the Free World worshipping anything at Stonehenge, least of all a 'Horned god', so there's your 'argument' destroyed.
