[So, it's okay with you if your husband controls who you can visit with, who you call, who you can take calls from, whether or not you can leave the house when he isn't home, how much money you can spend (if you are allowed to spend any at all) and so forth?]
Show me scripture that tells me he is not allowed to do that.
The Bible tells me to submit.

Ephesians 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;"
No man who loves his wife would treat her that way.
This is so sad.
@ Quasarsphere, one would think, right? I'm pulling this from the SAB since it's collected and easier to find -
1 Timothy 2:11-15 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.
Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
My husband would think I was a weirdo if I expected him to rule over me. He doesn't care who I visit with, who I call, who I take calls from, and whether I leave the house or not. He does care how much money I spend, but seems to trust me to not spend more than we have.
I get a lot of "yes, dear's" and I do most of the financial stuff. His job is to make the money. :o)
Well, granylo is rifht of course.
A women is just property, first for her father, then for her husband. Things like this were even enforced during the medieval ages in europe.
Fortunately socierty today is better than the society of the bible. But posters like grannylo make it clear that the intention of many christian fundamentalists is, to throw society back into medieval times
I'm reading a very interesting book right now. It's called Why Does He Do That? by Lundy Bancroft and is about why some men feel the need to dominate and abuse women, and how they convince these women that there is nothing wrong with it. It sounds like it's working for them in your case. Might I recommend you pick up this book and learn a few things? There's a section on how men use religion to dominate women...

That's pretty kinky.

@Lainey: Honey, is that you? :0)
Except I've noticed most fundamental marriages look more like this.

And to others on this board, Googling Christianity and BDSM in images, is just disturbing
Well then shut the fuck up and get off the interwebs, woman! And make me a god damned sammich!
(BTW I'm a chick but the babble doesn't say anything about chicks submitting to chicks being bad, so I'm running with it)
lol Christianity and bondage
Come to think of it, a sweaty young man who is tied up and tortured while wearing nothing but a loincloth sounds pretty homoerotic to me.
Lesson: the Bible is not the be all and end all of human existence.
But then again, some of us knew that already. Wake up and smell the feminism, grannylo.
All of the posts after this one by the fundies are hilarious. Apparently, claiming that it is possible for a man to demean or be abusive to his wife is feminist propaganda that is being taught in college. Also, women who put up with shit like this from their husbands have a "rare and precious trait."
I guess, in their minds, women can't be demeaned because they are meaningless already?
Oh, and their argument about smoking and eating fatty foods being a sin is a riot. I just love listening to fundies argue about what is "scriptural" and what isn't. I was rolling when one guy asked for "biblical data." As if it actually matters what some old book says...
Ten bucks says that contraeverything only supports "male leadership as required by the bible" because he is a male.
When I hear women talking like this, I want to kick their butts.
But, I refrain, because there's no point in giving them what they want.
It's really up to her if she wants to be a doormat.
What's not up to her, however, is to make other women act like her (e.g. Phyllis Schlafly).
Show me scripture that says you're allowed to use the Internet.
It's not ok for a spouse to control the other, no.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
