I don’t really care what you do or how you live your life. I only have one requirement that is if you are gay and wish to have a legal binding to your life which I have no problem with, the only requirement that I have is you don’t call it “married”. Find another word and all the propaganda and bullshit goes away. Pick that word and I am one of the people that will then hate you.

I don't think that I have ever read something so ludicrous. He's fine with SS Marriage as long as it isn't called marriage.
What an idiot.
Hey Vic, what about inter-racial marriages, do you hate them too? What other words should be sacrosanct and not used by anyone else?
So I guess you also must hate all the married atheists and folks of other faiths and creeds?
Like it or not, doucheface, marriage is a neutral word, get over it or get eaten alive by stress of all those married homo pairs, the choice is yours.
The scariest thing? Vic is actually a fucking paragon of enlightment and goddamn beacon of progress compared to most of his peers...
Still, I think we would all be happier if all it took to appease fundy crowd was merely calling it 'civil union' or somesuch. "No change in substance, just different name and we'll accept it" is way better than "fry in hell, you rotten heathens, for daring to love one another!".
I’ve been waiting to do this for along time.
(In response to the topic of the quote)
Marwwige. Marwwige is what bwings us together, today.
I'm fine with this. While we're at it, can we remove the benefits you get from the state with it, and have those only apply to civil unions?
Because this idea of getting married in a church and then getting benefit for it from the government is totally against the separation of church and state.
And then anyone at all who's of legal age can get a civil union without this religious bullshit. And you can get married and argue it about all day, just pay the extra fees that get waived for those in legal unions.
I don’t really care what you do or how you live your life. I only have one requirement that is if you are a non-Christian and wish to have a legal binding to your life which I have no problem with, the only requirement that I have is you don’t call it “married”. Find another word and all the propaganda and bullshit goes away. Pick that word and I am one of the people that will then hate you.
Fixed it.
Oh, so now you've reduced the question down to the NAME? See, here's the thing, Vic, it's called marriage in the laws of all the states, thousands and thousands of them. Call it something else and all those laws will have to be changed (and that translates to never-never). If you are going to hate people because of a WORD, then your mind is sufficiently closed that you will never understand any new IDEA.
Yeah, but whatever word might be used instead would mean "marriage", wouldn't it? So all that "propaganda and bullshit" would just carry over into the new word and the merry-go-round begins again.
Someone didn't quite think this through.
You can have "holy matrimony." All they're asking for is "civil matrimony." Why the fuck is that so hard to accept?
The problem with finding another word is that so many laws and corporate rules use the term marriage or married. The court case in New Jersey that ultimately legalized gay marriage demonstrated this to the satisfaction of the New Jersey Supreme Court and that married under a different name just wasn't equal.
I don’t really care what you do or how you live your life.
That's as it should be, Vic.
I only have one requirement...
Nobody answers to you, Vic. You have no ground to make demands of others.
if you are gay and wish to have a legal binding to your life...don’t call it “married”.
Ah, I see...separate but equal. Where have I heard that before?
Find another word and all the propaganda and bullshit goes away.
..and the equality. Don't forget that. The equality goes away, too.
Pick that word and I am one of the people that will then hate you.
So you don't care what people do or how they live their lives...unless they're gay and demand equal treatment under the law. Wow, you're really a piece of work.
I only have one requirement that is if you are gay and wish to have a legal binding to your life which I have no problem with, the only requirement that I have is you don’t call it “married”.

They can call it 'married' because...guess what? They're legally married .
Pick that word and I am one of the people that will then hate you.
Once again:

"I am one of the people that will then hate you."
Yeah, fuck that bible "love your neighbor" bullshit. None of us christian bigots follow any of that bible bullshit that we force to be engraved everywhere on public buildings...
O...K...
So, let's run with that train of thought.
If "marriage" is the legal union, M+F, as recognosed by the state, what names do you want given to the other unions?
And, finally, what term will you apply to marriages and these various "not-marriages" as a group?
But, more pertinantly, why does the extra information as to who is involved in a union matter so much that we have to muck about with lanaguage used to lable said unions?
So all of this bitching, moaning, and posturing is over a fucking word? And I thought the grammar Nazis were bad. At least they don't swear vengeance and hatred upon people for misusing a word (and a word that isn't even actually being misused at that).
@christian_leftie
"If "marriage" is the legal union, M+F, as recognosed by the state, what names do you want given to the other unions?"
How about "Maeredge"? Sure, it sounds completely identical to "marriage" and no one would be able to tell the difference in conversation, but technically it's a different word. Similarly, homosexuals won't get married, they'll get "maerried". I've finally found something good to say about English not having consistent orthography and spelling conventions!
[/facetious]
It's not just a simple matter of using different terminology. The term "married" is written into a whole mess of laws affecting things like taxes, estates, pensions, medical decisions and Social Security. If it's not called "married", then either the couple won't get any legal benefit from the arrangement or hundreds, if not thousands, of laws would have to be rewritten.
You, my friend, are a twat. Perhaps you can find another word for your legally binding contract with the person you wish to share your life with. ..taking in to account the limitations you are placing on that contract? You know, the bit about love?
(tfaddict)
"Marwwige. Marwwige is what bwings us together, today."
*harshly, through clenched teeth* Man and WIFE! Say "Man and WIFE!"
(Miles)
"You self-important piece of shit. Go fuck yourself."
Say, out of sheer curiosity, are you the same "Miles" who had an unfortunate domestic situation a few years ago, with which you asked the regulars at the (unfortunately now-defunct) FSTDT forum for help?
He was not only a nice person, but rather cute as well.
So you want your interpretation of Christianity to dictate law?
What about gay affirming churches? Are you going to petition them to jot use the word baptism when a gay couple has one of their children baptised?
What about the word family? Do you claim that one too?
You're going to lose, and when you tell your kids you hate gay people because they got equal rights, they're going to think you're a lunatic.
“…the only requirement that I have is you don’t call it “married”.”
I realize this post is OBE, but really, moron, that would (have) defeat(ed) the purpose.
Company insurance benefits that cover the spouse of a MARRIED employee would have to be taken to court to establish that the policy applies. AT LEAST each insurance company, if not each business policy.
Hospitals ahat offer special visiting privileges to the spouse of a MARRIED patient would have to be taken to court. Each hospital.
Schools that only let the listed parent pick up a kid, or the parent’s spouse (such as in the case of a second marriage) would have to be taken to court. At least each school district.
Adoption agencies.
Wills and death benefits, probate in the case of no will.
Man. For people who complain so much about the gays being shoved in their face, can you imagine the nightly news working their way through all the active court cases? It’d be like school closings after a blizzard. “So far, GayBond is held to BE equal to Marriage in the following businesses….While the appeal process grinds on for the following agencies…. And the DOJ has agreed to establish guidelines for conjugal visits in all prisons, which will apply immediately to all federal sites, but each state has to adopt or decline… And adoption in the following counties…”
Confused?
