Yes, I am familiar with Mithras and the Mithraic religion and its similarities to Christianity. The explanation for the similarities is really quite easy when one understands that Satan is the father of all false religion. He knew that one day, God the Son was going to come to earth in human form to redeem fallen mankind, so he created a false religious system that would emulate God's Plan in order to deceive and attempt to discredit His plan to redeem mankind.

Wait, so this guy thinks Satan actually outmaneuvered God, setting up a "false religion" well ahead of Christianity, but mimicking this "true religion" that did not yet exist?
Will somebody explain to me again how it is that God is supposed to be Satan's master? Every time I turn around, it seems that ol' hornhead is demonstrating his superior intelligence and ability, making God look like a completely incompetent fool -- or, rather, more of an incompetent fool.

Well, of course you don't pass Mithraic chapels... it's a mystery cult . It's all secret and stuff. There are bilyuns an' bilyuns o' th' satanic buggers out there, pretending to be christians to undermine society so we can... err... all sacrifice a lot of oxen? Yeah! Stupid oxen! Sacrifice the lot!
But yeah, Satan's the smart one. Which is kind of sad, considering that Satanists are mostly dorks.
This is a very old argument, from the earliest days of the church. It was applied not only to Mithras but also Orisis, Dionysus, Baccus, Attus, and Adonis. The argument is that Satan created all these false religions ahead of time so that when Jesus finally did arive, everyone would think it was just another Osiris-Dionysus mystery religion. Later, the church revised its position and said that people made up these religions in anticipation of Christ's coming because it was such an important event that people saw it coming ahead of time and just got some of the details wrong. Ultimately, the church realised how dumb these arguments were and decided to wipe out all the (other) Osiris-Dionysus religions, because if nobody knew about them, they wouldn't have to defend themselves from comparisons.
Well, let´s put it this way. A religion develops, long before Christianity, in a place where the Devil was not believed at all, and, at some point in time, it blossoms hand in hand with this other religion. Honestly, William of Ockman would be ashamed to see how a stupid man invents idiotic arguments to defend the indefendible. If you read the Bible, the Devil is a tempter, a poor thing that has to eat the leftovers that God leaves behind. If you say that, you´re admitting that he´s more intelligent than God. Now, just admit that, just for the sake of organisation, the Christians borrowed a lot of elements from Mysteric religions(Satan is not a regular chap like you and I. Mysteric means, in case you´re wondering, that it was performed in secret)to keep alive.
Oh, of course ... It all makes so much sense when you explain it like that. I mean, Occam's Razor would disagree, but I believe you.
Or, it could be that Christianity is a bunch of deriviation, just like all other religions. You know, made by human beings.

Yeah, if Xian theology was a dress it would have so many holes and tears and so little cloth that even a crack whore would be embarrassed to wear it. Guess Xian sects have no shame...
Let's flip this on it's head and see if it doesn't make any more sense.
Mithras was a popular cult before the time of Jesus. Christians started gaining influence, but were confounded by the Mithras being more popular. Solution: Emulate Mithras and tell everyone it's okay to celebrate it in the cathedral instead of with the cultists.
<sarcasm>Yeah, Revrend, you really make more sense than history. </sarcasm>
And it didn't hurt Christianity's formulation, either, that the apostle Paul's hoemtown was a huge center of Mithraism. Damned clever of Satan to have that happen, isn't it?
Satan was so busy starting false religions hundreds and thousands of years in advance, so that his sworn enemy jesus, when he was born, would blend in and NOT be targeted for termination? Satan is doing an awful lot of work then, isn't he? When does he have time to plant the fake fossils?
Since god sees and knows all, he obviously commissioned satan to create false religions. That makes sense if you're tripping I guess.
This guy, Satan, is the one I'm buddying up to. He moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform.
He gets my vote.

LOL. An atheist website has done more for me than Jeebus ever has.
Why do you all contradict your own theology? Christianity clearly states that the only omniscient being is God. Satan could NOT know the future.
Come on, I expected more from a Reverend.
You may think you're defusing the predicament but using this argument proves YOU'RE the deciever.
Mithra paved the way for Jesus, it's why the Romans began to accept it, because it's the same old shit their parents believed. And Mithra's the tip of the messiah iceberg.
It's for this reason Christians keep trying to censor actual history, your fable is a collection of older fables
Funny, because Christianity's concept of a good and perfect god, messiah, and end times came from Zoroastrianism via Judaism 2.0 (in case you're wondering, Zoroastrianism was integrated into Judaism when the Jews were in Babylon, which would explain why god was neither good nor perfect in most or all of the OT).
Confused?
