Christianity was founded before islam , and the difference being as a Christian we can choose through later life whether we follow it whereas the moslem children are indoctrinated and forced to attend mosques etc so i would say that islam is more of a cult than Christianity.

Actually in my state (ironically a northern, yankee state) churches are allowed to take children out of public school classes, bus them to the church for religion teaching, and then back again at the end of the day. At least, that was how it was when I was younger. I think it was one afternoon every other week or something... We called it release time religion but it had another more official name too which now escapes me. I didn't really care, school or church, both were boring as hell to me.
Remember the mega-hit song by the band Living Colour?
"Cult of Personality"
I always sang along changing the lyric from personality to christianity . Now you will likely do the same. It fits and the rest of the lyrics make more sense this way.
That explains why I got dragged to church on Sundays, Just-To-Show-Up Tuesdays, Bible-Study-Wednesdays, Kid's-Night-Fridays, Holy Ghost parties during Halloween....etc lol. *eye roll*
Excuse me? I was indoctrinated as a Christian from before birth and forced to attend churches until I took advantage of an injury, an illness, and working to get out of it. I'm still not free to choose as far as my family is concerned.
The Sun forum has to be one of the worst I have come accross, If you try to put together so much as a reasonable comment against the racist homophobic pricks who frequent the forum then you are labelled a mmber of the "loony left" it's a place where ad hominem atacks are seen asa valid form of argument. I used to post on there to counter much of the homophobic & racist rubbish but there was no attempt from anyone to do anything than sling pesonal insults around and resort to logical fallacies. It does not suprise me in the slightes to see such idiots as Roy1 posting on there.
Oh bullshit! I was "saved" when I was six years old and I hardly had a clue what I was doing. I was just going through the motions and doing what my family expected of me. It's the same with every kid in my family and just about every Christian I've ever known, so that turd's not gonna fly, dumbass.
and the difference being as a Christian we can choose through later life whether we follow it
Well, more accurately, your religion has more or less stopped blatantly killing everyone who disagreed with it, and Islam, is still stuck in the medieval ages (or at least, enough of its practitioners are to spoil it for the rest.) But since your religion was also in that phase for many centuries, burning witches and perfecting torture techniques, there's a limit to how self-righteous you can be. I admit, it seems that a female teacher or gay couple, or someone who changed their religion, would probably be much safer in a city in the heart of the bible belt than the most liberal middle east country besides Israel. Or is that a fair portrayal of middle east culture, if anyone can correct me on this I'd be happy to learn different.
islam is more of a cult than Christianity
Interesting. So at least you see them both as cults, Islam is just more cult-ish?
This isn't very fundy, that I can see.
Christianity was a cult that splintered from Judaism. The main tenet of the cult was that the prophesied Messiah had arrived and left without affecting any societal, political or religious change.
The Jews held the belief that the Christians were full of crap.
Definite bullshit right there.
I remember that even after I had told my parents I didn't believe in a god, I was still dragged to church for about six months. My grandparents still try to get me to go even now.
"Christianity was founded before islam ,"
Yeah, so? The Greek gods were around before Christianity. Where does that leave you?
"and the difference being as a Christian we can choose through later life whether we follow it whereas the moslem children are indoctrinated and forced to attend mosques etc so i would say that islam is more of a cult than Christianity."
Yes, because ALL christian children come into Christianity of their own volition and are NEVER forced into their parent's religion.
Depends, in germany this is most definitely true for most families. Most people see religion as a personal choice, even if their own children choose to have another religion than themselves.
In christian fundamentalist circles if might be different however ;)
I have to agree with Nihlum however, the posting isn´t exactly fundy but more or less true. If you look at the world as a whole, there is much more indoctrination by muslims than by christians. And as Nihlum said, the penalty for apostasy by a muslim according to shariah is death (well, the old testament of course has such passages as well, but in contrast to the old testament, the Shariah is law in a lot of countries)
<<A dozen years of Baptist Sunday School say "fuck you." >>
Ditto on that one!!!
I was told at 5 years old that I had to believe and go to church or I would burn in hell forever.
But ....I had a "choice" right??
Sun reader.
Likely near illiterate. Barely smart enough to walk and breathe at the same time.
Will believe whatever Rupert Murdoch tells him to believe, vote for whoever Rupert Murdoch tells him to vote for.
Which makes the UK a 'democracy' in which Rupert Murdoch gets 4 million votes.
Again, Christians taking credit for the secular societies it exist in. The Christian church has been and continues to try to be in charge.
There was a long road in kingdoms and empires of throwing off the yoke of Christian repression, but we finally put you in your place. The American constitution (and other countries) spent a lot of it's paper on keeping the church out of power.
That we can't be punished or killed has nothing to do with Christians, your history is just as repressive and barbaric as any. We've got you were you belong, powerless
You should watch Jesus Camp.
In addition, Judaism and Hinduism are older then Christianity. So I guess you'd better pick one of those then, huh?
In fact Earth Mother worship is older then Judaism and Hinduism. Guess its back to the old fertility statues for you.

This isn't very fundy, that I can see.
Eh? This is about as fundy as I can imagine. It not only denies, but it projects its denial on to another religion. It is blind unreason, and that it what fundyism means, isn't it?
Natalie, my continuing respect, but you are wrong on this one.
fergus
islam is more of a cult than Christianity
Maybe this post is fundy, but I think that it could be much more fundy. A much-more-fundy post would be "Islam is a wicked cult. Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus, don't you dare call it a religion, let alone a cult!" But it can be fundy if you want, I guess. Is ALL religious belief, fundy? To me, all religious belief is um, silly, but fundy only applies to a subset of it.
It is blind unreason, and that it what fundyism means, isn't it?
I would say, personally, that it's a COMPONENT, but I see blind unreason from people that are not remotely religious at times. This isn't quite what I would call 'blind unreason' as much as 'naivety and ignorance as to Christianity's historical role' but that's just an opinion.
It not only denies, but it projects its denial on to another religion.
With all due respect, elaborate. What is being projected?
Indoctrinated children forced to attend religious institutions?
Yup, that's proof right there that fundigelical christians are just another branch of Islam.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
