A prayer group in Washington DC is claiming the credit for the recent sharp drop in the US price of petrol.
Rocky Twyman, 59, a veteran community campaigner, started Pray At The Pump meetings at petrol stations in April.
Since then, the average price of what the US calls gasoline has fallen from more than $4 a gallon to $3.80.
"We don't have anybody else to turn to but God," Mr Twyman told the BBC. "We have to turn these problems over to God and not to man."

"Try praying to Allah, he's got more oil."
You win the internets, sir.
Perhaps they could go to Europe, they've been paying almost $9 a gallon for decades.
BTW, the price has gone up markedly since, so much for prayer.
I also heard the BBC podcast on this, and the moderators were laughing themselves to appendicitus on this.
Some churches are actually taking the money they'd have spent on tracts and stuff and having gas "buydown" events. They pay the gas station owner or manager enough money to give a nice discount, 50 cents or a dollar or something per gallon, off a thousand gallons of gas. They put up banners and promote it, and talk to people about Jesus for a couple minutes while they pump their gas. My cousin's church did this, and she says people responded really well. I can believe it.
I say all this to say that even Christians can get practical and provide real help. I respect what my cousin's church did. I have no respect for these idiots making a show of praying the gas prices down. Didn't a major character in one of their favorite books warn against, you know, really showy and public displays of prayer?

The vampire whatever wins another internet. that made my day.
It's not even a coincidence. If they started praying in April, they saw the price rise. In fact, this was the first year that the price continued to rise after memorial day before eventually dropping.
Wow. If you drive 12,000 miles a year at 20 miles per gallon, you're saving a whole $120 a year. In the meantime, the average medical premium has gone up about $700-$800. Why aren't they praying to bring that down?
I tried to pay for a tank of gas with a prayer and thank you god, but the attendant wouldn't have any such thing and called the police.
Dear Rocky Twyman, what did I do wrong?
hmm, I would say world politics had a better influence on the price of gas, but who am I to posit imerical evidence in this situation.. apparently, God made the price of gas go up to get people to start talking to him more often..yup, thats a good evidence for Jesus...
NOT!

I'll bet God is sick and tired of being everyone's bitch when they should be solving these real-world problems on their own.
"God, my credit card bills are too high. Make them disappear."
"God, my son is an asshole. Make him into a cool dude."
"God, my neighbor plays his heavy metal too loud. Strike him down."
"God, the world does not fit the way it should be in my mind. Change the rules for everyone else so that I'm personally satisfied."
God...
Announcement that we might be putting more drilling thingies in...
Hard to tell who's doing what, here.
It's good to see god's got his priorities straight: Putting cheap gas in your SUV is infinitely more important than feeding and demilitarizing all those pesky developing nations. I mean, good for us just trickles down to them, right?
Right?
EDIT/Postscript: Couldn't god have done better than a few cents/gallon for a week? What a dick.
Confused?
