Prevent mass murder:
1. Ban Islam.
2. Deport Muslims back to their native dirt holes.

Wow, did you think of those all by yourself? Good lord, why didn't anyone else think of these? They're so obviously foolproof. Oh, wait:
Problem with proposition 1 - If someone believes something to be true, they will continue to do so whether or not it is made illegal.
Proposition 2 - Any muslim with a milligram of sense would declare themself to be non-muslim and hence avoid deportation, and continue to worship underground. Also, proposition 2 would not change anything for muslims born in the country enacting these rules.
While we're at it, let's send all of the Plymouth rock descendants back to their dirt holes, too.
Christianity, as was pointed out, has waged many more holy wars than islam throughout history.
Even excluding wars and other such organized group carnage, just dealing with known individual mass murderers in America, how many have been Muslims (or, for that matter, Middle Easterners)? I haven't heard of a single one. However, most were entirely of European extraction (at least as far as appearances went), and at least a couple were nominally Christian (the BTK killer comes to mind, for one).

<<< 1. Ban Islam. >>>
Oh yeah, that'll work *real* well. Instead of tens of thousands Muslims who want to blow us up, you'll have tens of millions of Muslims who want to blow us up (and that's making the assumption that the vast majority still won't give a shit).
Time to break out the Cluebats again.
Ban Islam. No, just keep Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, etc. out of governments.
A stupid solution, I must admit. Yes, Muslims tend to be far more radical than Christians, but banning a religion because of the fucktards are in it is a stupid idea.
Perhaps we should ban Christianity too, while we're at it?
Incite killings:
1. Ban Islam. By doing so, we admit outright that we are after Muslims specifically, not merely terrorists. Muslims who would otherwise live normal lives will be persuaded to join Al Qaeda and similar organizations to fight off an unprovoked attack against themselves and their way of life.
2. Deport Muslims back to, umm, somewhere. If they're born in the US, then deport them to the Middle East or something. By doing so, you would disrupt many lives, and cause a great amount of resentment. Muslims who had their life's savings taken away would not quickly forget the persecution they faced in America, and would join Al Qaeda to end the oppressive regime.
In short: Your plan would cause millions of neutral parties to become enemies. Millions of allies will also become our enemies. Our new enemies (and our current ones) would perceive a unified threat and unite against it. A war against a handful of terrorists (and against Iraq) would become World War III.
What a great plan--we can transform millions of people who presently have nothing against us into mortal enemies, including the friends and families of the people you would deport, some of whom have been here for generations! Yay for police states!
OK, fundies, he'res the thing, Persicuting Muslims will increase terrorism, not decrease it. Get that through your thick skulls.
1) banning a belief just doesn't work. You can't stop people from believing something by making it illegal. All you do is make them angry and increase the risk of violence.
2) There are now a lot of Muslims in North America that were born here, they are not immigrants but native citizens. You can't "deport" people to countries they never lived in in the first place.
In addition: because that worked so well for Spain in 1492.
Oh wait. No it didn't. The expulsion of Jews and Muslims and institution of the royal Inquisition was a major factor in the collapse of Spain as a world power. They gutted and hounded their agricultural and intellectual bases. It was really smart.
They didn't try so hard with the Muslims. There were too many; they just let time and the accretion of Christian habits wear the moriscos down.
But in earlier times Christian lords would actively compete to make their domains attractive to Muslims, so they could maintain a workforce.
Confused?
