[I'm having mixed feelings on this. If someone murders another person as a criminal act is it against the Christian worldview to take their life in return. Isn't that in return Vengeance?]
Throughout Scriptures, we clearly see that God wants to judge the murderer and He wants us to send them on to their judgement.
As for the taking of a murderer's life, Gen 9:6 gives us a clear command which has not been retracted: "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man."

You see folks, this is where all those Bible contradictions (that Xians don't like to admit to) come in so handy...the Bible can be used to justify anything, [fstdt=22292]as he himself has admitted[/fstdt].
Personally, I don't oppose capital punishment altogether, but I think it should be reserved only for the most heinous crimes.
I always thought that rule was badly worded. So if someone kills someone else, you have to kill them. Then, because you killed someone, someone else has to kill you, and then someone has to kill that person, and so on and on until the human race is reduced to one person?
Deut. 5:17 is a pretty clear command, too. "Thou shalt not kill" - short and simple. Which one wins? You'd think if the Bible were really the Word of God and He intended it as His command to the human race, He'd write a little more carefully about important stuff like this. What good is the Bible as a moral guide if you can find some passage or another to justify almost anything you want to do?
Brain_In_A_Jar -- Except that, according to the Bible, Jesus said that not a bit of the OT law was to be changed. Paul said that OT law is void, but Jesus said it never would be. Plus, all over the OT God supposedly said that OT law was forever.
"Postpartum Abortion" award? ...
Hmmm ...
THAT'S IT!!!!
I'VE GOT IT!!!
The solution to the scriptural abortion dilemma!
Exodus 21:15 :
"Anyone who attacks his father or his mother must be put to death."
Surely, that developing embryo must have punched or kicked his womb at some time or other! By aborting that fetus, you're not committing murder, you're obeying scripture!!
Ok, if God is so almighty and so wonderful, why doesn´t he kill him himself?, why does he need a man at arms?.
According to fundies:
Homosexuality, abortion, anything sex-related, fun, being different from them in any way = evil
Murder, rape, bigotry, racism, sexism, lynching, cross-burning, genocide = righteous
"Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed ..."
So the punisher is also a blood shedder, whose blood must also be shed. The punisher's punisher becomes a blood shedder, whose blood must also be shed. And so on, ad infinitum.
You may claim there's an exception for punishers, but it's not in the Bible. That's your own idea.
"And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth."
- Genesis 4:11-12 (KJV), where god deals with the murderer Cain. Later verses describe how god put a mark on Cain to protect him (from whom is never specified).
"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
- Matthew 5:39 (KJV), where Jesus rejects the whole 'eye for an eye' notion
I guess the issue isn't as clear as you pretend it to be, is it Bro Randy?
Confused?
