I think Athiests get a little bit of the cold shoulder. But can you honestly be surprised? I can't trust anyone that doesn't at least think that there is a posability there is some sort of higher power. Athiests are amoral and think they know better than everyone and think that there is nothing better than them and no one will hold them acountable for thier actions. But no one is fucking telling them what to do. They just get.. ignored. Boo-hoo.

Say what??
Ok there are many higher powers than myself, just none of them are gods.
I'm quite moral and ethical and I only know as much as the average person.
If I thought there was no one better than me. I wouldnt bother trying to become as good as any of the people I aspire to become as good as.
Reality will hold me accountable for my actions, and I'll do the same.
"I think Athiests get a little bit of the cold shoulder."
Really?[/sarcasm]
"But can you honestly be surprised?"
Yes, yes I can.
"I can't trust anyone that doesn't at least think that there is a posability there is some sort of higher power."
Well, I am an atheist and I admit that one cannot absolutely PROVE that there isn't a god. Do you trust me?
"Athiests are amoral"
No, most of us atheists have very good, self-formulated ethics, we don't claim they come from a deity.
"and think they know better than everyone"
No necessarily better than everyone.
"and think that there is nothing better than them"
Yes, you just said that.
"and no one will hold them acountable for thier actions."
No, most atheists understand that they are held accountable in the here and now, unlike Xians who believe their pal, Jesus, with forgive them of all their misdeeds.
"But no one is fucking telling them what to do. They just get.. ignored. Boo-hoo."
No one is fucking while telling me what to do? If you mean, I do not take directions from an ancient collection of cruel and misogynistic fairy tales, then, yes, I agree.
I believe it's possible (anything is possible) but I require proof and until that is provided everything that we know about the world around us as well as the history of our ancestors points to their not being one (especially not one that has influenced our history). Add to that, that the existence of the universe is so far beyond the ability of our tiny brains to understand that explaining it by creating something vastly more complicated isn't logically sound. But, like I said if you could prove it to me I would by no means bury my head in the sand to any valid evidence that is provided as so many religious people do. In fact, I really couldn't care less if such a being existed or not, (it wouldn't change who I am as a person) I simply am against blind stupidity and the inability of many to see beyond tribal thinking when they should be looking toward the future.
I think his username speaks for him.
Also, "amoral" does not necessarily equal "immoral", and "atheist" does not necessarily equal either. Oh, and "christian" does not necessarily equal "moral", either.
One, they don´t seem to get so ignoring, if your rant so much. Second, explain what is posability, and they maybe, maybe they will tell you. And man, what sort of compassion do you expect, if you give none?
I'm sorry, but I've got to agree with _social_retard_ here. Saying that no 'higher power' exists really isn't logical. We don't know how we got here. Sure, maybe it was evolution. Maybe some scientists have found the right answer for how the earth was created. But what's to say that some higher power didn't influence the way in which the earth was created? Okay, maybe the earth's creation was completely random. Maybe in a couple thousand years we'll know that for a fact, with total and undeniable proof. But then what will we know about the rest of our galaxy? About the rest of the universe? We're never going to know everything. If we ever DO know 'everything' then how do we know for a fact that it is really and truly everything? What's to say that there isn't some other dimension that we have no way of knowing about, some 'god' that we can't possibly fathom, even with all of the knowlege that we had aqquired?
Saying that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that there is a god is just as stupid as saying that there is no possible way that there is NOT a god. I'm not saying that Christians got it right. If anything, I believe that all current religions have gotten it wrong. The only thing that we can say for certain is that it's impossible to tell whether there is some higher power out there that influenced our creation or influences our lives or influences.. whatever.
Homer.. what? What are you trying to say? I'm not saying we should all believe in the Christian God. I'm not saying we should all be Jewish. I'm not saying we should believe in Thor. What I AM saying is that we should believe that there is a chance, how ever small it may be, that there is SOME higher power out there. If you're 100% certain that no higher power exists, then you're not using logic. If you're thinking logically, you're making conclusions based on proven facts. We have no facts that prove that any higher power exists. We have no facts that prove that a higher power does not exist. The only logical conclusion is that a higher power may or may not exist.
Go ahead and believe in Thor if you want. Believe in the Christian God. Believe that there is no higher power. But anyone, no matter what their religion is, that says there is no chance that their religious beliefs are wrong is just plain stupid.
lol? : You're absolutely correct. There is no way that I or any other atheist can say with 100% certainty that there is no god of some kind. As the saying goes, "Nothing is impossible, but many things are improbable." Until I have more evidence that there is a god out there, I will continue to not believe in one.
If _social_retard doesn't want to trust me or any one else that holds this opinion, he can be our guest. Quite frankly, I have found that the ones that are the least trustful are the ones that do prefess a belief in a diety, particularly Christians.
I came to my way of thinking by examining what I was taught growing up (in a Christian home and church), what science has learned about our world, solar system, and universe, and using my ability to think for myself. Like I said in my earlier post, I don't need anyone to tell me what to do or think.
John: I wonder - do fundies secretly think atheists are having more fun and it pisses them off?
That's exactly it. They think that since we don't have to follow their big book o' rules and we don't grovel in fear of their psychopathic sky fairy, we get to do whatever we want . So fundies imagine all the ways they would act out the frustration, hate, and anger their religion burdens them with, and think that's how atheists act all the time--theft, murder, rape, etc.
The idea that atheists might feel constrained by laws and ethics and empathy apparently doesn't register with them at all. Which has led a lot of posters here to wonder if fundies are missing these qualities.
Athiests are amoral and think they know better than everyone
Projecting much?
Most apt screen name ever!
"posability"?
Yes the new Atheist has over 100 points of articulation, comes with cloth costumes & over 20 accessories! Accessories include coke vial, ball gag, goat mask & baby to be eaten.
Don't miss this great deal! Order yours today!
And every time someone ignores you, you throw a massive fit and bitch about being "persecuted".
Also, you don't think you will be held accountable by other people? What kind of amoral imbecile are you?
posability
A Figma of Richard Dawkins? Sure.
Meanwhile, the likes of the OP are more like Funko Pops: Stuck in just one position, rigid & unmovable.
And like the things which Dr. Stuart Ashen loathes (especially in Lootcrates), have infected everywhere: but are utterly useless.
But unlike his GI Joe collection, are completely worthless.
“I think Athiests get a little bit of the cold shoulder. But can you honestly be surprised?”
A cold shoulder from people directed to love their enemies? Yes, that’s a surprise.
“I can't trust anyone that doesn't at least think that there is a posability there is some sort of higher power.”
How big a possibility? 1%? 10% At what point of uncertainty/credulity do i suddenly gain the morality to be trusted?
Why is ‘trust’ contingent on believing in one or more gods?
"Athiests are amoral”
No, child, we just don’t look to a divine being for morality. A divine being that sends to bears to tear into a gaggle of kids for being disrespectful. A divine being who blames all of mankind for Woman eating the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. A divine being who won’t let people cook food on a day that’s holy to Him and His glory.
"and think they know better than everyone”
No, plenty of people are smarter than me. I just don’t find any evidence for gods to be convincing.
"and think that there is nothing better than them and no one will hold them acountable for thier actions.”
You wait to be judged by a god that issued the rules for taking rape prizes in war. A god that promotes slavery and slaughter. But i’m amoral?
“But no one is fucking telling them what to do.”
Bullshit, you guys are CONSTANTLY trying to tell everyone to live by your superstition.
Confused?
