The decline in American pride, patriotism, and piety can be directly attributed to the extensive reading of so-called "science fiction" by our young people, a poisonous rot about creatures not of God's making, alien societies without a good Christlan among them, and rawsex between unhuman beings with three heads.

The decline of American pride can be directly related to the idiotic actions of the G.W. Bush administration.
Patriotism is defined very differently by many different groups. I am a patriot. I research the issues and vote for what I think is best for my society. I am not, have not been, nor will ever be a member of the military nor a "flag-waver."
If there is actually a decline in piety I am all for it. Religion is part of the problem not the solution.
Good sci-fi is wonderful stuff and, you are correct, often doesn't have any Christians in it.
As long as those 3-headed aliens and their human sex partners are consenting adults, I say that's fine, whether it's fiction or reality.
Smoke that in your pipe and stick it.
Obviously, you haven't read a single science fiction novel in your life. You're probably just freaking out because Doctor Who has introduced some very, very slight LGB themes. And who says that's a bad thing? It didn't used to have black people in it either.

Funny, isn't it, that the writers were sometimes more prepared to treat green-skinned non-humans as intellectual equals (even as enemies) than they were female or dark-skinned members of their own damn species.
"Isn't it funny how there are a number of things we have today that were originally dreamed of by science fiction authors?"
Oh Gawd, you don't want to say that to a fundy. It's proof that our freemason-controlled society was engineered by QE1, Darwin, and later, HG Wells.
This sounds so old-fashioned, like "Rock n' Roll equals the Devil" to me, that I'm not sure whether it's a Poe.
Though, I must admit, sci-fi does have some pretty cool themes that have nothing to do with Jesus. Like illuminating the possible goodness of humans in Star Trek , or the implications of global environmental catastrophe, or why complete censership (Fahrenheit 451 ) is bad. I can imagine why lots of funamentalists, of any religion, wouldn't like it.
This is actually a partial quote by Jerry Falwell.
"The decline in American pride, patriotism, and piety can be directly attributed to the extensive reading of so-called 'science fiction' by our young people. This poisonous rot about creatures not of God's making, societies of 'aliens' without a good Christian among them, and raw sex between unhuman beings with three heads and God alone knows what sort of reproductive apparatus keeps our young people from realizing the true will of God."
--Jerry Falwell, "Can Our Young People Find God in the Pages of Trashy Magazines? No, Of Course Not!" Reader's Digest, Aug. 1985: p142-157
...
Rawsex between unhuman beings with three heads?
...damn, I've been reading the wrong science fiction. All mine has is science and fiction, or a bunch of muscular men in power armor screaming about how the Emperor wants them to win.
What's really interesting is I've seen several studies that show that people who read sci-fi tend to be more optimistic about the future than those who either don't read at all, or those who read other types of fiction.
Those who read only religious fundamentalist tracts are barely a step above suicide - and with good reason.
"... erroneously attributed to Jerry Falwell"
I have a citation from Readers' Digest, but I haven't actually checked it, so you may be right.
If it is from the mid-80s, though, that's about the same time as the Satanic Panic and "D&D suicides" ... which have just as much validity as SF causing the downfall of America.
EDIT: OK, it seems to be bogus: http://www.scifidimensions.com/Mar02/jerryfalwell.htm
Yeah, that's what I like about science fiction, too!
Seriously, he really truly does not know what the hell he is talking about. That's what makes it really fundie--he doesn't let that stop him.

"Looks to me like HandsOnTheScreen had one hand on the keyboard and one hand on his dick when he typed this.
Alien sex *fapfapfapfapfapfap*
Three heads *fapfapfap*
Rawsex *fapfapfapfapfap*"
That's nothing to the fapping as he imagines all those aliens converting to fundy Christians, landing in America, becoming citizens, and voting republican.
Heh, that Falwell quote just screams for some quote-mining:
"and raw sex between unhuman beings with three heads and God"
Heh.
@ Knotilus, a winner is you!
As for this post, even if it is a Poe, I can truly say that my American pride and patriotism took a near fatal blow when torture went from being an unthinkable abomination to an "issue."
Anyone else?
Erm, sciencie fiction has roots older than the US of A, silly:
"As a means of understanding the world through speculation and storytelling, science fiction has antecedents back to mythology, though precursors to science fiction as literature can be seen in Lucian's True History in the 2nd century, some of the Arabian Nights tales, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter in the 10th century and Ibn al-Nafis' Theologus Autodidactus in the 13th century."

So, what is a good Christlan?
Confused?
