“A third means of illustrating the moral wrong of intermarriage is to say to your son [...]”
So, read that. It’s NOT illustrating any moral issue, it’s just you whining about disapproving of my choice.
“"We know well enough to be wary of getting involved with a dope addict, no matter how endearing and lovely she is, because we know it will hurt.”
And yet people do suffer being hurt for love. People do not just dump their addict loved one if their love is strong.
If i’m willing to at least try to face the hurt, that’s my issue.
“How about getting involved with someone who is endearing and lovely who will hurt not only you, but your parents and your whole people?”
I brought a black woman back to the small rural Idaho town I was born in to get married. I was prepared to hear all sorts of charges about how i was hurting the family, myself, our children, our race. I determined before we even left for Idaho that this was the woman for me, and i was quite prepared to tell the entire family to fuck off if they had an issue.
If they made me choose between her and them, there was no choice at all.
“Drop her!”
I will buy you tickets on the maiden cruise of the USS FUKU, and carry your bags to your stateroom and stand on the pier waving bye-bye before I HURT her much less leave her for your sake.
“It hurts? Morality requires a willingness to accept hurt."
Yes, but it also requires a judgment about whether the harm is necessary or not. I will suffer quite a bit to do right by my kids, I will not suffer for YOUR goddamned prejudice.
