evolution is a philosophy, not science and nowhere near proven fact. You need to look at both sides of the argument and see where the evidence points to and make your decision. Time is the enemy of evolution. If the universe was millions of years old, it would no longer exist because it is proven that the universe is slowing down, i.e. the sun is dying out, the speed of light is slowing down. One question: where are all of the fossils of the creatures in the evolutionary chain and why are we not seeing any obvious signs of evolution today? And before anyone goes and bashes the Bible, maybe you should try reading through it with an impartial attitude. I’m sorry, but most of it is not metaphorical.

Yes, the sun is dying out. It's been around for about five billion years and will probably be around for another five. And the sun isn't nearly as old as the universe. There's no evidence that the speed of light is slowing down. One hypothesis has it that it slowed down during the first few seconds of the Big Bang, but that's pretty irrelevant to the Theory of Evolution. We see plenty of signs of evolution among creatures that reproduce fast enough to evolve during human lifetimes; mainly bacteria. How else would we get antibiotic-resistant and nylon-eating bacteria? The Bible says the universe is only about 6,000 years old. That's absolutely impossible. We have stars measured at way more than 6,000 light years away.
Light is slowing down? Other than in a lab, where and when?
Fail and Irony all wrapped in arrogance. Lovely.
Here's one that shouldn't be vaccinated. Enjoy your polio and scarlet fever, fucker.
Oh wait, you are vaccinated? Don't you realize that almost all vaccines now originate with evolutionary research?
No?
"evolution is a philosophy, not science and nowhere near proven fact"
Umm...yeah...that may have been the case in Fundyland in 1880 but...yeah...it has been proven, it is science and your claims that light is slowing down have been debunked.
I know it's already been pointed out, but how appropriate that he posted this on Fail Blog.
And I'd love to see a cite on the speed of light slowing down.
This philosophy of evolution you mentioned, when did you come up with it?
Are you bucking for a Nobel? I assure you, this is not the way to do it.
The universe is billions of years old.
The theory of evolution is way more then proven fact. It is a collection of millions of facts. It is a fact that things have evolved, the theory of evolution attempts to explain how...and it does so quite nicely actually.
A Fail to a Fail, you can't get any more Fail than that.
To the Fail graphic pictured in the original thread, I hope that those parents' child will one day seek out his own answers, so he can at least avoid becoming ignorant like his parents.
'try reading through it with an impartial attitude'
I have, and that's why I'm atheist. Why don't you give it a shot?
All fossils found are "creatures in the evolutionary chain", and most bones do NOT turn into fossils. Antibiotic resistant microorganisms has evolved in less than hundred years. You were saying?
I had no intention of bashing, or praising, the Bible. We are talking science here, whether you like it or not, and the Bible has no place in science.
>And before anyone goes and bashes the Bible, maybe you should try reading through it with an impartial attitude.
Actually, that's good advice. It doesn't help your case any, though. Last time I did that, I went from fundy to atheist in the time it took to get through the OT.
"If the universe was millions of years old, it would no longer exist "
13.7 billion years worth of fail.
"maybe you should try reading through [the bible] with an impartial attitude. I’m sorry, but most of it is not metaphorical."
No, most of it is just wrong. What's left over is mostly metaphorical.
1. There are fossils from the first creature that can be seen and had some sort of bony structure.
2. The universe is slowing down? Citation please.
3. The universe is not millions of years old, it's trillions of years old. And yes, all those layers in the Earth's crust as well as multiple dating techniques show that the Earth is billions of years old.
4. We've seen evolution in action. Look at superviruses, bacteria and insects.
5. If the Bible, why not the stories of every other religion? You know, to be completely fair. There are multiple sides of the story, after all. And yes, the Bible is mostly metaphorical, but that doesn't mean that some of the underlying themes aren't useful anyway. Like, you know, be nice to other people?
True, large parts weren't metaphor. They were the misstatements about the nature of reality promulgated by ignorant superstitious bronze age peasants.
You however, with your assertion about a declining speed of light, demonstrate the worldview of an ignorant superstitious 21st century peasant.
Except the speed of light ISN'T slowing down. EVERYTHING we know about physics REQUIRES that the speed of light be eternally constant. Ken Ham doesn't know shit.
In addition, it's been demonstrated via computer simulation that if the speed of light were faster in the past, the universe would have ripped itself apart.
Furthermore, the evolutionary "chain" doesn't exist; it's more of a giant web. Fossils are difficult to make, and even more difficult to find, so nobody expects that we will ever find fossils of every species. And we ARE seeing obvious signs of evolution today; just not crocoducks.
"If the universe was millions of years old, it would no longer exist because it is proven that the universe is slowing down"
Well now. Not sure where to begin.
Universe is ACCELERATING in its expansion, it's ~14 billion years old (BILLION, MOTHERFUCK), Sun dying out has jack shit to do with evolution, speed of light is a constant.
If you do want time to slow down, I suggest making a black hole (shouldn't be too hard. Use the gap in your knowledge as a starting point.) and throw yourself into it.
In other words, DIABH!
...and in this "argument", evolution comes out as the clear winner. We have the evidence, tardo. You can ignore it all you want, but it won't go away.
" I’m sorry, but most of it is not metaphorical."
No it's not.
It's straight out fables, fiction from bronze age spiritual leaders. The only differences between them and a witch doctor is the scroll and the bone through the nose. There's no decent moral message in most of it and most of what we consider moral preceeded it.
In of itself, the Bible is harmless. Ancient texts that should be preserved and copied but not a book of ethics, goverment, history or science.
"the speed of light is slowing down."
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!
*clears throat* seriously though, [citation Seriously Fucking Needed!]
Our heavenly orb Sol is not set ablaze by conflagrations, rather an efficient and remarkable process of nuclear fusion, proven to last for well over a milliard years. And do not mention Dirac's large number hypothesis, which I doubt you were even aware of, as t'is not bit mere numerology. The fossils are already found you simply declare it not so by the mongrel logic school's favourite: simply claiming it not good enough. Just as well, evolution is very easily observable in the real world of which you speak, if only you were to work at a hospital or genetics lab so you could have authority on the subject you refute. For t'is a simple combination of a few events, the causes of which where not even known of at the time, to be discovered later giving all the more credence to this grand and accurate theory: One: Living organisms that reproduce by sexual means have phenotypes, physical traits caused by genotypes. These genotypes get picked at random in the offspring, producing a combination of the parents' traits. Two: Mutations occur at moderate interval and at random, which effect the genotype in an unpredictable way, occasionally bettering it, albeit usually neutral or deletarious in effect. Three: The key part of evolution, the one that defies entropy, is that of natural selection. Organisms well-suited to their environment are by definition more oft to reproduce. Organisms maladapted, by having a bad lineage or freak mutation, or having a major event happen in the environment, are far less likely to survive to breeding age. This one fact is extremely useful in that it filters out nearly all of the negative mutations, so that mutations of positive effect, which may even occur at exceedingly low rates, are allowed to proliferate and continue, as long as each small alteration brings a small benefit to the organism in question in return. Now, what was this about the bible?
"Time is the enemy of evolution."
- A welcome change from Hovind's popular canard, 'time is the god of the evolutionist.'
Its just as stupid as Hovind's belief, but its still an amusing change.
"One question: where are all of the fossils of the creatures in the evolutionary chain and why are we not seeing any obvious signs of evolution today?"
And before Aaron here bashes Darwinius massilae and Ardipithecus...:

I'm afraid that the Church of England would disagree with you. They do acknowledge that most of it is metaphorical; and as Protestant clergy, those bishops & Archbishops of the General Synod who have Doctorates and Professorships of Theology & Philosophy ...:
(Part II):

...would they have agreed to have buried & memorialised in their Westminster Abbey the body of the man who (although in his early years was in training to join the C-of-E's clergy ; from his discoveries to his death was an agnostic ) discovered something that represented such a major Pardigm Shift in the mid-19th Century (and "On the Origin of Species" sold more than the Bible at that time), that it could have destroyed the Church of England, if not for the simple fact that they welcomed with open arms what his discoveries represented, precisely because they (as they do today) openly admit that much of the Bible that is the basis of their doctrine is mostly fable and metaphor.
The C-of-E - and by memorialising Darwin in their Westminster Abbey - prove that Evolution is more than just 'philosophy'. Even thr Catholic Church had to eventually admit that Galileo was right all along.
Moral: Must be cold in that river in Egypt, Bible Literalist fundies. Wet, too.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
