Aside from the obvious lack of genocide (no, failure to discriminate racially is not a form of genocide), those two pictures are very different. Isis is destroying unique works of art that are also irreplaceable records of th culture development of past peoples. The statue of Jefferson Davies is not: we have plenty of other examples for how to cast bronze statues in the late 19th century/ early 20th century style. There is no special artistic merit to that statue, and what it mainly represents is the desire of some people in the South at the time to own other people.
Did Vox Day have a problem with all those statues of Lenin, Stalin, or Saddam getting torn down?

Yes, let's destroy the good of Syria because of what's going on right now. It's only going to make it harder for Syria to ever improve if you destroy its history. For one, this allows the Islamists to peddle their propaganda and oppress the minorities that they despise through erasure of historical sites deemed not Islamic enough.
Besides, I can't see many people, Assad apologists or not, wanting to travel to Syria to visit for tourism right now. Destroying these statues and historical sites and describing it as being for the best is frankly absurd and is nothing more than a feeble excuse for extremists who want to erase the country's past for the benefit of their own vile ideology.

I still don't see how that justifies another evil destroying Syria's culture. Times change, despots and bloodshed don't last forever. South Korea was once run by a despot, now look at it. Cambodia was once a war zone torn by genocide and closed to the outside world (worse than North Korea probably). That has taken its toll, it's impoverished, but is now a tourist spot with some hope, and it's a tourist spot because its historical sites (e.g. Angkor Wat) weren't destroyed by the Khmer Rouge.
Look at Hungary and Poland reverting back to authoritarianism. Cambodia and Syria are different. Khmer Rouge pissed off Vietnam one too many times. Everyone tolerates the Syrian government despite their many transgressions.
Assad and Brunner must be punished. If that means destroying Syrian culture for hypothetical future generations, so be it.
