glad you liked the troll.
the chinese dude that jumped into the lion's pen at the zoo to preach to it -- hilarious for all but him. probably misguided and over-zealous. standard christian theology don't extend salvation to the animal kingdom. for some thoughts about that, read "out of the silent planet" by c.s. lewis (borrows heavily from "the man in the moon" by h.g. wells).
sure, i'm a fundagelical but i have a sense of humor too. i also believe evolution is a beautiful, elegant, creative hack -- i hope there's a god, and i hope he/it brought all this into existence from scratch and a few simple physical rules, and maybe occasional direct intervention. that's much more beautiful than a creation by fiat, where the dinosaur bones appear 500m below the earth's surface just to mislead us. god brought out adam from the dust of the earth (over millions of years) and chose him above all the other ape-ish creatures and 'breathed life into his nostrils' to make him a spiritual being. before god chose david to be king of israel, before god chose moses to lead israel out of captivity in egypt, before god chose jacob to become israel, before god chose abraham to be the father of all who believe, before god chose noah to be the surviving human patriarch, god chose adam to be human.
it might be nice to resolve all our conflicts as the bonobos do, through sexual diversion. we could instead choose the chimpanzee approach, where tribe members fight each other for position, routinely fight other tribes for land rights, and often cannibalize each other. i don't think either species' routine behavior informs human morality. we choose our own norms, informed or not by some supposed creator.
evolution doesn't bother me. what does bother me right now is the New Yorker article about language, culture, Chomsky, and a rival language theorist Everett: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/04/16/070416fa_fact_colapinto?currentPage=all -- the crux for me: if there exists a culture for which the "good news" of jesus christ's makes absolutely no sense and can't even be related, then can a freewill (non-predestination) christian fundagelical like me believe the christian message is universal? if it's not meant and not understandable/relatable for all peoples, then it can't be true.
